I just recently bought this jacket, and was pleasantly surprised by the fit. I am 6'2", with a slim / athletic build at 170 pounds and ordered a medium. I constantly have trouble finding clothes that are slim, where the length of the arms and body are long enough. Arc'teryx products have largely solved that problem for me, and this jacket is no exception. I wear a medium in all jackets, and large for form-fitting apparel like the RHO LT zip. This jacket's arms are slightly longer in a medium than other jackets I own (very positive thing) - these include the Proton LT, Squamish Hoody, and Incendo Hoody. Anyone above 5'10" up to 6'3" with an athletic / slim build should fit fine in the medium if you like more closely fitting gear, otherwise size up to a large for layering. My proton LT fits perfectly under a medium Gamma LT and I plan on using this for late fall and winter hiking / trail running / mountain biking.

Really awesome blend of weather and cold resistance. Great fit, design, and flexibility. I really enjoy this coat.

I have quite a few Arcteryx pieces and I keep coming back to the Atom SL as my absolute favourite. I feel like no other brand has anything like it, and that everyone should own one of these (people say that about the atom lt but I really think the sl is superior). I like that it can function as a wind breaker and insulation (I run cold, even in summer so the insulation is excellent). It is the perfect piece for wearing on airplanes. It is the perfect piece for spring and summer hiking. I wear mine inside in air conditioning and don't over heat. I have worn mine on long hikes and backpacking trips in the mountains, as well as on trips to the desert. I have zero complaints or things I would change about the Atom SL. Seriously!!! Get one!!! They are the best!!'

Just a quick head's-up, the new "cobalt sun" color is a lot more teal in person than it is on the website. My new Gamma LT Hoody arrived last week & I was not expecting the color difference. I just emailed Arc's customer service to confirm I actually have a cobalt sun Gamma LT Hoody, even though the hand tag indicates cobalt sun.

Used this as a soft shell while ice climbing. The cut allowed for a nice range of motion, kept the wind out and was water resistant, although I haven't put it through anything harsh yet. I like the design on the cuff, kept snow out and fit nicely on the inside or outside of a glove. The high front zip, protecting the neck from the wind is a nice feature as well, I've felt exposed in other layers I own and this one was noticeably better at keeping the wind out. The extra large pockets were nice and overall the layer didn't take up much space in the pack.

great addition to my other atom jackets. I use this when running in cold or snowshoeing to block the wind and take the edge off but don't over heat where I perspire.

I live at a ski resort in central Idaho so I'm always playing in the outdoors. This is my main "go to" jacket in spring, summer and fall for hiking in the mountains and during the winter for nordic skiing, skinning up a mountain in the backcountry and late spring alpine skiing. It cuts the wind and vents really well through the side panels. It has a slim athletic fit which I love but has sufficient room for base layers and even a Fortrez hoody when it gets cold. I'm 5'5", 140#, slim athletic build and the small fits perfect. The color selection right now is getting tired as the orange and yellow have been in the line for several years. The two gray colors are redundant. Hoping they add in a blue like the Iliad to switch things up. Love the orange which adds visibility for hiking in the fall when hunters are out. Wish it had a zippered chest pocket for easy access to my trail pass that otherwise hangs around my neck.

Bought this as a lightweight option heading into spring but it has quickly become my number one go to due to its solid windproofing and versatility with layering. Seeing how lightweight it was I wasnt expecting much in terms of insulation but after wearing it in near freezing temperatures in strong winds I can honestly say it keeps me warmer than any heavier jacket I own. The durability of the product has also impressed me as mine has taken some abuse but still looks brand new. Would definitely recommend this softshell for anything from dog walking to climbing. The only negative I have is the inside pocket while a very welcome feature is a little small for my liking. Other than that the gamma LT can do no wrong.

This jacket fit me so well it's almost unreal. I had the gamma Mx and returned it because it really just wasn't what I was looking for with how it fit. This is a very sleek and tight but just loose enough jacket it looks great on me I couldn't be happier.

Like most people have said - I bought this jacket not really knowing what I would use it for. Not warm enough to replace a puffy, not quite thin enough for just a wind breaker. BUT, I have found this is the perfect jacket for summer nights, packing into my running vest for when I get on ridges, wearing over just a t shirt for ski touring, and fall climbing. If I know there is a chance that the temps are going to drop, I am packing this jacket.

I recently purchased the Gamma LT for an upcoming mountaineering trip and had a chance to take it through some varied environments. The biggest test was a cold hike in the Adirondacks with temps reaching 5F (-15C) and windchills down to -15F (-25C). I had on a 150 weight Smartwool base layer and a Patagonia expedition weight capilene hoody and I was toasty warm the majority of the hike. The only time I needed to throw on a hardshell was nearing some summits when the wind kicked up to 20-30 mph. You could definitely feel the wind coming through but performed alright at wind speeds less than that. The breathability was incredible. Even though I was warm I never felt moisture trapped inside. I live in NYC and use it as my go-to jacket for my daily commute. It looks stylish and I don't feel like I'm wearing a technical jacket going to dinner. I really put the jacket to the test during a downpour rainstorm. I walked 20 minutes with constant rain and the DWR beaded up the water and it ran right off the jacket. However, around the Arc'teryx logo, water seeped through and I could see a wet spot of the logo on my shirt upon taking off the jacket. I'd say this jacket will keep you quite dry for 30-45 minutes of steady rain. Like I said, I bought the jacket for a mountaineering expedition and so wanted a helmet compatible hood. At first I thought it was going to be too bulky without a helmet but it cinches down nicely (and I have a small head). The length is great for a harness and the pockets are high enough to not get in the way but comfortable to warm your hands up when simply walking around town. The one thing I would have like to see is an inner mesh pocket large enough to store a water bottle. During my hike in the Adirondacks our water was freezing so I had to stick my 1 liter Nalgene bottle in the jacket and it was flopping around quite a bit. Not a deal breaker though. The length is great - it comes down below the hips, and does not ride up when you lift your arms. There is enough room for a light puffy or a fleece underneath for layer but not too much more. When wearing just a T-shirt it does not feel baggy. I tried on the Gamma MX and it felt bulky, restrictive, and is too short for technical pursuits IMHO. The cuffs are form fitting with stretch to wear some gloves underneath. They feel great but it can be difficult to move them up over a watch. Not a bit deal to me. For reference I am 5'11" 180 lbs with an average build. Overall, I highly recommend this softshell. It is just as at home in the mountains as in the city. A great all around jacket.

Its just right for ski touring. I wear it skinning up over a base layer, and then just throw other layers on over it. I also use it hiking in dry chilly weather.

Flexible, lightweight and comfortable. True to size and great for days when bigger jackets are too much for walks in the foothills. An excellent product with a delivery service to match, I ordered it Sunday night and was wearing it Tuesday morning.

This is an interesting jacket ... At first I wasn't sure how to use it, since it doesn't seem to be perfectly designed for any one purpose. It doesn't breathe well enough for medium to high output activity, it's too warm for warm weather, it's not warm enough for cold weather, and it's not water resistant enough for heavy rain. But over time, I've come to really like this piece for the following use: low to medium output activity, cool but not cold weather, little or no precipitation. Under these conditions, which include casual use, the jacket works very well. In short, the Atom SL Hoody is a much lighter version of the Atom LT Hoody, just as one might expect. Like the Atom LT, I find the jacket to be super comfortable, and the trim fit is excellent for my 6', 150 lb body, with essentially no restriction to movement. Because of the trim fit, this jacket can be used as a mid layer under an outer layer, so the jacket does have application in colder weather.

I purchased this jacket as an all round water resistant, light weight jacket for hiking in Peru in October. And it is perfect. It fits true to size. It is quite stylish and suitable for everyday casual wear. It is warm and insulated when zipped up but cool enough to wear in 20 degree heat unzipped. Expensive for a hoodie but indispensable in reality! Would definitely recommend.

It fits into my kit every season. I wear it as stand alone piece in the summer to a ski touring layer in the winter. I have worn it trail running, rock climbing and backcountry skiing. It's so small and easy to pack it always fits.

Definitely the best non waterproof jacket I've had so far in my life. I've used this jacket for everything from trekking, trail running, cross country skiinig, ice climbing & mountaineering, everyday use, and long days with the chainsaw taking down timber in the Norwegian mountains and forests. Brilliant breathability! Brilliant isolation under the Hybrid GTX jacket (similar to a thin flees) Brilliant flexibility when climbing / working. You wash it when it's full of dirt and it looks brand new after its dryed up. And yes! It dryes up very quickly. Highly recommend!

I live in Seattle and the ATOM SL HOODY is my go-to jacket for Fall, Spring and even most of Winter. The jacket is super lightweight and provides enough water resistance to handle the constant drizzle we see here and in the PNW in general. Besides casual wear, I've used this jacket while ski touring and it's kept me warm but also breathes quite well! Overall, an excellent jacket for both casual and active pursuits.

Just a shoutout for the Atom SL. Owned it for about two years now, and it's by far my most worn jacket. It's suitable for temperatures from 5 to 20 degrees celsius (depending on your activity of course) and for any type of activity, from walking to cycling, to playing tennis, golf and even for skiing as a midlayer. Job well done guys.

I bought the Atom Sl hoody for a day to day jacket in the summer, spring, and fall in Canmore, Ab. So far this jacket has held up nicely. It's form fitting and comes in an array of nice colours. It is durable, water resistant and has kept me warm with a baselayer in cooler weather hikes. It's been below 10 Celsius in Canmore with rain and fog and the atom sl has kept me warm and dry. Great ventilation in lighter exertion. The cuffs are the non elastic and do slide up on occasion but not needed if your using it around town however does get annoying when climbing etc. Overall great jacket.

Had this jacket for a few months now and has served me very well during a disappointing Scottish summer. Used for day hikes in the hills, bit of cycling and also trips to the pub when the weather looks a bit dicey. I'm 5'9, 85 kilos and the large fits very well but sleeves are a tad long. The large size for me allows a snug but acceptable fit with a base and mid layer with a bit of room with just a t shirt. The black even makes me look slimmer. Hood is massive but not a major issue for me. All in all a great buy.
