This is my second pair of the Escalante, my first being version 1.5. As I have learned with all Altra
shoes, they run from a half to full size small in comparison with other athletic shoes. This one runs a half size larger. This version is more rigid than version 1.5 which truly feels like slippers. But that nice slipper feel leant itself to easily rolling the ankle if one lands on the foot wrong. The increased rigidity of version 2.0 is still very comfortable but also more stable. Less likely to roll the ankle.

Loved the wide width and the style but that was about it. Only tried the left foot and did not bother with the other. So flat and with no flexibility that I don't see how anyone could run with these. Probably great for standing still or sitting at desk but I could not even trust them for walking. Returned.

I have recently been diagnosed w/ a pinched nerve and the wide toe box and zero drop shoes have been a welcome relief! This pair in particular has been awesome! Extremely comfortable on my feet and for running. I had a pair of Topos that wore out within 6 months. Topos replaced them, but ultimately were not as good as quality product. VERY happy w/ Altra shoes and have 4 pairs of different shoes total. Other friends have also purchased day hikers, trail runners, etc...Altra is the bomb!!!
The ONLY complaint I would have is that some designs of shoes are NOT good for walking in the rain b/c they kick the rain back up on your shoe. It seems that the rubber sole is a means to carry the water...running isn't the issue b/c my feet are warm just by activity...but when walking after/during rain...they are NOT good unless you buy the waterproof versions..which currently are only trail runners.
ALTRA needs to make more waterproof road running shoes.

I started with the Escalante 1.5s and now am on my second pair of the 2s. I rotate through a number of shoes including the Kayentas, Lone Peak 4.5s, and Hoka Cliftons. The Escalante 2 is my absolute favorite. It is stiffer and more fitted than the 1.5 and I feel like I can actually take a turn in them without me feet sliding around. The 1.5s were terrible for anything other than running in a straight line.

This is my first experience with Altra and I'm very pleased. It's a great daily trainer for me. The wider toe box and platform feel so nice and stable compared to other shoes. (In a comfortable way not in a "stability shoe" way). I'm excited to put more miles in this shoe. It has a nice balance of comfort and responsiveness.

I've been an Altra fan since the 1st Intuition. I've loved the Escalantes in all of their previous forms, so I ordered the 2.0. This shoe is stiffer out of the box & I was initially disappointed, but due to Altra's generous return policy I decided to give them a try. I LOVE THESE SHOES. They have all the the cushion and space I've loved in previous versions, but somehow they are just more responsive. I feel like I can run faster for longer. Might be my favorite Altra of all time.

I got these shoes about a week ago and they have been really great! I had been having a lot of issues with my knees. I am easing back into running with these shoes and there is a noticeable difference. Granted, I have not gone that far yet but still, even walking and lifting I have noticed less fatigue in my knees.

I disagree with the poor reviews of this edition of Escalante. I've owned 3 pairs of version 1.5. They were my faves until the 2 came along. The 2.0's are a tad stiffer in the midsole, allowing more forward propulsion upon push off. I liked the 1.5's, but now feel more energy is wasted when I wear them. The 2.0's provide everything and more in my opinion.

I have been wanting to try Altra and the Escalante is closest to what I have run in with another brand. I am using them for working at the hospital to get used to the zero drop before I start running in them. They feel great and I love the look and color of them too. Better in person than pictured.

When I first bought these they were a little snug around my arch and ball of my foot (I have high arches though so this isn't shocking). They broke in pretty quick! I'll be honest, I'm not a huge long distance runner or anything, but I am quite active and walk/run a few miles here and there. These are just super comfortable. I wear them to workout, to work, etc. They feel comfy/bouncy, which is a nice shock absorber for my knees/hips. I love the gray/black color with the super cute teal symbol!!

hi! I love these shoes! And I disagree with many of the negative reviews for these shoes. They're incredibly lighter than my previous brooks running shoes and they are soft and easy to run in. That being said, I did not have a pair of the previous version, so I cannot compact it to those. But, compared to my brooks, they're heaven. When they came in the mail, I tried them on and they felt so amazing, I ran around the block a couple times just to see how it felt... and it felt amazing. My only gripe is they come untied sort of easy, but maybe I'm just bad at tying knots. And the tongue rubbed my foot for the first several runs, but that now seems to be broken in. The toe box is amazing. I have wide feet and have struggled with finding running shoes that are comfortable. These and Topo's wide toe box have been my absolute favorite. If you are hesitant because of the shape, don't be!

I liked everything about these shoes but the material didn’t seem to allow my foot to breathe and my foot got hot before even walking in them. Taking them off was a breath of fresh air.

I like Brooks but prefer former gts’s to new ones

This is my second pair of this shoe. They have a wide toe bed, which accommodates my wide feet. They have good arch support, and are very comfortable. They are also breathable. I like the look as well! With my problem feet having a shoe that fits right, feels good and looks good is huge!

This is my first pair of Altras and I love them. I tried on a few different styles from this brand and these were the most comfortable. Plenty of toe wiggle and cushy but light and flexible sole. The volume of the toe box above my knuckles could be just a smidge bigger because with thicker socks it can feel a bit tight, but overall these are my new favorite shoes. I've had them about 5 months and they are holding up really great, but thinking about buying a second pair so I can have one for running and one for everyday.

This is my third pair of Escalantes, over a three or more year period. This iteration is the best. I normally take an 11 in a tennis shoes and that’s what I take in the Escalantes. In a street shoe I take a 10. This shoe runs small. I am not a runner but walk or hike in these shoes all the time. They are a great all-around shoe and with the wide toe box, I can stretch out my toes and be comfortable. They wash well and last a long time. Great to pack as well, as they don’t take up much space. I wish Altra would make a better variety of colors. The turquoise is nice but they could definitely improve on the colors they offer.

I'm a runner - now mid-distance due to boredom with marathon training. I like this shoe better than the 1.5 version. My feet feel more connected to the ground whereas the 1.5s seemed too boggy after several weeks. My foot also "swished around" too much in the 1.5 and they wore out quickly (again I don't run high mileage). I like that the 2.0s don't feel as cushioned because I can't feel the ground with over cushioned shoes. If people want a shoe they can fold into a pocket then I suggest they purchase racer shoes. My foot feels more secure in the 2.0 but I still get a natural feel and my toes can splay which ultimately gives the foot natural stabilization. My feet and legs feel energized during and at the end of my runs. I also like that the shoe last is semi-curved. I can't run with a straight last (as in the Torins) because I get blisters and hot spots on the lateral ball of each foot and great toe. I do agree that the tongue is too short with the 2.0 but I can live with that.

My third pair of escalantes. The 1.5's were more stretchy then the 2's, but the 2's are the absolute perfect road running shoe. This show has changed my running. I have used it for 10kms, half marathons, full marathons and my latest running feat, the 24hr ultra running event. I ran the 24hr my escalante 2's for the entire race with never changing my shoes once. It was unreal. The escalante 2 offers superior cushioning, and firmness for stability with each stride. So impressed by the comfortable ride this shoe gives despite the race distance.

I ordered these after I had overused my Provisions. The Provisions provided a good amount of support but the toe box was still too small. With the Escalante it has a more defined foot shape and my feet are happy now!! I love these shoes!! But if you are looking for support this provides less than the Provisions but I don’t need any support with my foot shape... thank you Altra for a great shoe!!

I love the way the toe is made on the shoe as it really does conform to the true shape of a foot. I suffer from metatarsalgia and have pinkie hammer toes. These shoes are so comfortable and I don't have to worry about my toes being squeezed. Good enough arch support, overall a well made shoe, and the tongue area is wide enough with great quality ribbons that are easy to manipulate for fit. I now have three pair of these shoes and can highly recommend. I'm not a runner but do spend a lot of time on my feet.
