I bought this backpack a month ago and I would recommend it. I use it everyday to carry stuff for my baby and my son, including a water bottle and a camera. This is exactly what I needed, with good capacity and access to things. I also found the back support is good enough. I also hope to use it when I go back to work.

This is my 4th Arc'teryx bag. All 4 are still in rotation with varying sizes and styles to suit various needs. In the past 7 years I've had 3 day packs previous to this one (none Arc'teryx) and ended up with major complaints about each and every one. This backpack is well designed, durable, and I love the plentiful pocket space (with big big zippers!) to help keep everything organized. I really have only one complaint - the minimalist exterior has required some ingenuity when packing hiking poles. I do wish there were one method or another to attach poles, a mat, or a tent to the exterior. It's a small complaint though, and I'm overall really happy with this bag and don't see myself replacing it any time soon.

I bought this in September and have used it everyday for university. It stores a tablet, laptop, chargers, and all other things you toss in day to day. It works great and looks great! I personally have taken off the waist belt too (which was very difficult). I took out the plastic frame in the back that makes it more comfortable for everyday use. It's sturdy but I would say it's frustrating how far the zippers open at times! Also, if you have heavy items in the small front pocket, it makes the bag look like a sideway U bent on itself. That's the only complaint I'd have but I just don't store heavy things there anymore!

Just bought this bag for college and it works great for me because you are able to pack the bag super fully as the zippers go further down the sides than a normal bag. This means that sometimes the front of the bag might weigh itself down and open autonomously sometimes but after a bit of getting used to it's no big deal. Excellent storage and organization. Water bottle pockets are nice and snug. Overall great.

This bag has literally thousands of days of use and barely shows signs of wear. It's a classic. Totally capable for day hikes but really shines with the organization to use as an every day carry for school, work, and international trips.

I bought this bag in my freshman year of high school and it's served as my only back pack for the past 10 years. I've traveled, hiked, and commuted with this bag and it has held up through plenty of abuse. It's definitely an irregular shape, however I like that the zippers go very low on the bag. It makes it easier to fill it to the brim (if you lay it down completely). In an upright position the low zippers can be annoying and they can come undone unless zipped fully. The water bottle nets on the sides of the bag are slim, choose your water bottle accordingly. However, the quality of this bag is pretty impeccable. I've pushed the zippers to the brink and could've sworn I was on the verge of blowing them out, yet they've persisted. The fabric barely has any signs of wear and is free of any thinning from abrasion. I was looking at maybe buying another in a more subtle color (why I'm on this page), but decided that I might as well keep the old one seeing as it still functions perfectly.

I've had this pack for a year now and absolutely love it, except for a couple of flaws. First the good: it's beautiful, sleek and cool shape. Fabric has a nice quality shine to it, all materials and craftsmanship are top notch. Seams are very well reinforced etc. The organization is also very good, the pockets are well laid out and it holds a lot more that it seems it would. Water bottle pockets are great as they compress to nothing when not in use, maintaining the simple lines, but are fairly large so could hold a lot if you need them to. The elastic fabric of the water bottle pockets seems more durable than most packs. The carry is really good, very comfortable and ergonomic, especially with the frame sheet on. That brings me to one flaw: the sheet has an aluminum stay that gives a very nice contour to the back of the pack, but that same shape makes carrying a laptop or tablet in the "laptop sleeve" (more of a fabric bag with no padding) impossible, as the curve would place stress on the flat electronics if the bag is even moderately full. Fortunately you can take the aluminum stay out and the carry remains comfortable, so it's not a terrible flaw but good to keep in mind, especially the lack of laptop protection. Second thing, as others note is that the chest strap is way too short, so just get one from another pack with the clip style system or modify this one. Also not a big deal but annoying. Third is that the main compartment opens very low, which would be a good thing if the bag had compression straps to stop the front of the bag from opening and spilling everything over if you open it standing up especially if fully packed out. Again, you can work around it by not opening the main part too much or setting it down to access the main compartment. All in all, these issues are workable because the pack just works so well otherwise. Comfortable, carries well, very light for how strong and well constructed it is, quality materials you can feel, has several pockets that fit a lot so you don't need to access the main compartment that often, and the pack remains comfortable even with the aluminum stay off, so I definitely recommend buying it if you can live with the imperfections. Having gone through a few dozen packs looking for the perfect one, I can tell you there's definitely no perfect pack out there, but this one comes pretty close!

Amazingly practical backpack - even the 26 packs loads of space. Was tied between the Blade & the Mantis I use it day to day for urban commute - I carry a 15inch laptop (I think you could even fit a 17 at a push) and have tonnes of space for jacket - shopping bags - light food shopping on the way home etc. nice compartment for small items - stationary, etc. super comfortable and ergonomic. I use other stash compartments for cables charger etc. nice heavy weight nylon on the bottom for increased durability. wouldn't mind seeing the arc logo (from mantis) on the sponge area at the back for increased appeal.

I use the pack daily from 2017. This is my EDC pack for work and everything in the city. I also use it as a carryon for domestic flights. I carry daily a MacBook Air, an Ipad Pro, layers, a bottle of water, and other daily use stuff that fit perfectly in this pack. The fir and comfort are paired to none IMO. The padding of the shoulder straps is the plushest from all packs that I have used in the past. I do believe that the pack makes an awesome day hiking pack for hikes and easy mountain routes that do not require a lot of climbing gear. I personally use it for photography carrying 2-3 lenses with ease. I had to remove the aluminum stay and I just use the plastic panel. I found that it forms on my back better.

I had several bag's in my life and all off them was good besides one problem that after awhile I started to have a lot off pain in my back and especially around my shoulder and was very fostrat so I searched for a bag that will be very comfortable especially in my shoulders and the back and since I have several things from arcteryx (alpha is, tiya jacket, beta ar, 4 covert cartigan, covert cartigan hoody) and all off them was high quality well made products, I decided to buy the mantis bag and there is no surprise again high quality well made bag with room for all the things that you need such a little pocket to documents and cell phone and large pockets to put in computer Or clothes depending on which trip you are going also there is two pockets in the front that very big because that their not connected one to another so they have a lot off room inside to put in tablets (12" in the large and 9" in the smaller one) that if you are in the city but if you are going to strip in forest or mountain you can easily take all what you need (for one day only) such as clothes and spare off shoes and two large bottles in the sides and also in the pockets and also you can take food and you still have plenty of room inside because it is a large bags also the zippers are well made very easy to zip also it prevents a little water from coming inside the bag but it isn't Waterproof (don't get inside water) I didn't had all the day bags in the world but I defently sure that this bag is one of the best, useful and comfortable day bag out there very recommended

Bel ensemble agrable utiliser.

If you know how to accomodate several things inside, for a quick trip (in my case 4 days to Oaxaca, carry on only necessary and elemantal stuf), this backpak works perfect. You may also add poles on lateral side, usig the holder located inside whit a smal rope.

While you could use this pack for a lot of things, it has served me incredibly well for traveling. I put everything I don't want lost or destroyed while flying in this backpack. It has held up to over 6 years of deployments to the middle east and is still going strong. Not my favorite day pack for the woods, but it shines for traveling.

Was very glad they brought this pack back. The newer version is lightweight, professional looking but also functional with the many pockets and organizational slots. The zippers are very smooth and don't snag when quick access is needed. Very minor observation is the pack straps might be a little too narrow for larger persons but doesn't take away from all the positives. Larger version would be ideal. Thanks Arcteryx.

I have been looking for backpacks that can hold my mirrorless camera x100v and the binoculars. This is perfect for that purpose for easy side access swinging the back on each side. Both front side pockets are very spacious so that I can fit my camera easily with the hood on. For those who are concerned about whether it fits Macbook Pro 16 inches, it does fit the MBP 16 inches. However, the sleeves in this bag seem to be designed mostly for a hydration pack, and there is almost no padding. I hope it has some decent padding for the protection. If I have to bring some heavy books with my laptop, I would not use the sleeves to protect it. I would rather use the external laptop sleeves and just put them into the main compartments for protection. If you are looking for a hiking backpack with front side access for a camera or different easy-access things, this is a great pack. If you are looking for an EDC laptop backpack, there are better backpacks out there.
