As advertised, the toe box is much wider than most Salomons. However, the toebox and midfoot are low in height. For my foot, which not particularly wide or high volume had enough room width-wize, but was fairly squished by the upper, which almost certainly would have cause pain in the MT joint on longer hikes or walks. The panels on the outside (which i think are on their new x ultra models, as well) provide support, but would almost certainly get snagged and collect debris. Shoe companies have been using similar internal supports for years, so the choice to put these on the exterior may only be for looks, but it's a weird choice anyway. Outsole seems durable - seems perfect for packed, dry trails and paths - contragrip is great stuff. I am sure mud would get stuck and stay stuck, so probably not the best choice for wet conditions. Like most salomons, build quality is great - just some questionable design choices and poor fit for my slightly wide-of-average foot.
