Not too dressy, not too sporty, not too heavyI could go on and on but let's just call this Gortex joy the Goldilocks jacket that fills all your travel needs in a nice small package. I can roll this up into a small little ball that fits so nicely in a tote, ready to pull out at the drop of a hat or a raindrop or a drop in temperature. You won't need a hat, by the way, because the Essential has a hood! Finally, the navy color is just so kind to those of us of a certain age whose complexion just needs a lift.

Unfortunately, the description was wrong when I ordered (I made Zappos aware & they immediately updated) and this particular item is NOT the one with pit zips, which was my main reason for ordering. I also needed one with a fleece lining, which this does not have. It's a lightweight jacket. I tried it on in 50 deg. windy weather, & it blocked the wind, but I knew I would not be very warm for an upcoming Scotland trip, so I would say it's more for summer/ warmer spring (unless you plan on some major warm layers underneath). The fit was very flattering & I really liked that it didn't have the big logo on the chest, which made it a little easier to dress up than the usual Marmot. I almost kept it just for the look of the flattering longer fit & no logo alone, but I really needed a mid or heavy weight windproof rain coat instead.

Plain and simple waterproof rain shell to wear over business work attire for commuting on soggy days. Navy color was nice little change from the usual black.

Lightweight, perfect rain coat. It has a new look, it doesn't have marmot written in the chest, which is a better, minimalistic look. Also the pockets are lined with the soft material, and it feels way better. My previous coat had a velcro at the pocket and my gloves were constantly ruined. This one doesn't have that. Overall very good basic rain jacket.

I was looking for an upcoming trip to Ireland. I did a test run with this coat to see how it performed. I wore a fleece sweater under the Essential Jacket and that combo kept me warm on a windy, rainy, forty degree day. The jacket was roomy enough to accommodate the fleece nicely. I like the slightly longer length, I think it is warmer than a jacket that ends at my waist. My only complaint is the zipper is a little flimsy. It always takes multiple attempts to get it started, but once engaged it slides smoothly.

Egg Bowl 2022 (Hail State) -- the Marmot Essential Rain coat proved to be superior to all all others, keeping me dry during 3 hours of enduring rain and high excitement in a football stadium. There were 2 winners that day... Marmot Rain Gear and Mississippi State Bulldogs #GoDawgs

Product became the envy of all at the Egg Bowl this year (Go Dawgs) After 3 hours of pouring rain, I was the only one of my friend group who could say that they had stayed dry. It also was very comfortable and allowed me to jump around and ring my cow bell freely as my team brought home the victory.

I searched high and low for a raincoat that properly covers my bum! So many coats leave me damp in the derrire! This is a practical length, light weight rain shell that is breathable. Perfect for adventures during an Alaskan summer.

This is a really great jacket. Yes, I too wish there was a way to adjust the cuffs. My older Marmot urban raincoat had a 2 snap cuff feature which I loved. The outer pockets are well located and styled for accessibility. A wonderful bonus, there is AN INSIDE BREST POCKET which is not mentioned in the description! It is large enough to hold a pair of sunglasses, cell phone or passport. I typically wear medium tops. In this jacket I will wear at least a large so I can use it with a down layer. I am considering buying an XL and going with the oversized look, (which is flattering with this jacket) so the pockets won’t visually bulge out if they have bulkier items like gloves in them.

Love, love this jacket!! I'm 5'3", 135lbs, normally wear 6-8. Ordered a Med. Not too large, just right to add another jacket or sweatshirt(anything bulky) underneath. It has a slim appearance.

I love this jacket. It is totally waterproof, packs down small, and is good-looking. It is true that it is fairly noisy, as some people have stated, and that it does not have adjustable cuffs, but I didn't find either of these to be a problem. Bottom line is that its simple, elegant design is great!

This is a great weather proof, rainproof, and fashionable rain coat that is long enough to wear with dressy or casual clothes.

Nice completely waterproof jacket. Decent coverage with hood up. I'm 5'10 and length covered just past rear end, which was exactly what I was looking for. I just wish it was lined-even with a light cotton lining. It's very lightweight and thin.

I bought two different sizes in two different colors. Large in burnt Orange was a bit tight with big sweatshirt for the winter football games (no inside zip pocket either), but the XL navy which I liked a lot (has inside zip pocket at) was WAYYY too big even with a sweatshirt, I had to return both of them. Sad!!!

The jacket appears to be functional (i.e. water-repellant). But there is little substance to it and it was not worth the rather extravagant price you charged.

I have had this jacket for two years and every time it I wear it in weather that is more than a drizzle I get soaked. The fit and picante color are nice. It is useless as a rain jacket.
