In searching for a winter coat it came down to either the Prospect or the Montreaux I liked that the Prospect was waterproof, the hood was easily adjustable and the zippers were heavy like you would expect on an outdoor jacket, the torso was not tight at all, and was about 4 inches longer than the Montreaux. Negatives were it had only 3 pockets (no inside drop), and no ruff. The Prospect was warmer (800 fill compared to 700 for Montreaux) and overall fit better, plus I liked its longer length. I like the side zippers down by the hem because they make it easier to sit down without exposing yourself by unzipping the center zip. I do wish that center zip did go all the way to the hem, though because then it could provide more coverage when sitting. In contrast the Montreaux was a very pretty Berry Wine color; had 4 pockets (2 handwarmer, 1 interior zip, 1 interior drop). I liked the ruff on the hood but could not see a way to adjust it so it would not fall so far forward over my face. The minuses were that it was only water-resistant and that the torso was very snug; also the zippers were very fine, like what you'd find on a skirt, and not as heavy as I'd expect for a jacket of its type.

I got this coat 3 days ago and I am loving it during my dog walk at 16 degrees weather and it got warm for me with my winter leggings and a thick sweatshirt underneath. I am 5'1, 95lbs, and the coat length is 1/2 way to my ankle. Another good thing about this coat are the location of the pockets; they are higher than those at the waistline and it is good because I am more aware whether my gloves will fall out or not.

I bought this coat to survive a three hour outdoor football game in 10 degree weather with below zero wind chills and a little snowfall. It was perfect. I was warm the entire time due to the highest down count I could find. I love that it was mid-calf length, roomy, has a good shape for a puffy coat and the detachable hood fit perfect over my hat. The Prospect coat is the warmest coat I have ever owned. If you're thinking about buying this coat, do not even hesitate and just buy it. You will not regret it.

This is the warmest coat I've ever owned. I live in Massachusetts where the winters can be harsh, windy, cold and snowy. I do not even have to layer clothing because it is so warm. It is very well made and the only minor issue is that the snaps to keep the collar closed are slightly hard to fasten but I'd rather they be tight than popping open when I'm out walking my dog. I constantly get comments on how good looking this coat is.

I have had several Marmot long coats. This coast is super warm and the best so far. It has withheld blustery winter walks in Vermont with my dogs. The only issue is that, at times, the zipper gets a bit stuck and hard to zip.

After that brutal December blizzard, the dog got booties and mama got a new coat. It has performed very well in Iowa in minus 11 with 40 mph winds, heavy wet snow, sleet, and light rain. My jacket was okay but I didn't want to add pants or bibs to take the dog out. I chose the 45" Prospect because the 38" Chelsea lacked an interior pocket and the 40" Montreaux wasn't windproof. I like 800 fill and this matte fabric, no noisy gortex. I read all reviews noting fit, zippers, pockets, snaps, and stains. I agree the coat feels snug in the upper chest and arms (compared to my jackets). No zipper or stain issues ever (my 5th Marmot since 2011). Hood snaps are a bit tricky, but a thumb under each side, before gloves, is working. And I prefer snaps over Velcro lint. On pockets, I agree they look odd placed so high up on the chest. The picture shows the 8 prospect welt pocket next to a 6 in pocket. I'm adjusting to using them but dropped a star as I think they need to be re-evaluated. Wish I'd had this coat when I commuted and traipsed around campuses. It's warm and comfortable.

This is the warmest coat I came across when I looked at many different comparable coats. It's beautifully made and has zip side pockets and comes to my mid calf. This has a terrific fill amount of 800 and it's all goose, not duck. Most are duck or a combination. I have gone out walking or single digit days and this has kept me very warm.

It gets one star due to length. The pockets were far to high and unlined. The snaps didn't work on the collar to secure the hood. The hood flap with the snaps "unbuttoned" was unattractive. I sent it back.

I read a review about this coat that said "if you're thinking about buying this, just do it", and after months of searching for the "perfect" winter coat, I found it. By far my favorite purchase. I am originally from Florida and can't handle the cold at all, so I bought this coat and decided to test it out at a football game in Michigan while it was snowing. Only had a tank top and a sweatshirt underneath it and I was the warmest person at the tailgate. Just like the person who's review I read before, if you're considering buying it, just do it. You won't regret it!

It keeps me warm and toasty. Love that it's long enough to cover my lower legs and it's super comfortable with the zippers on the sides for more room when walking.

My wife bought this in January. It's shedding feathers already three months later. Marmot's return window is sixty days. We missed that. It has a lifetime warranty and we are supposed to mail it somewhere for evaluation. I don't think we're going to bother because the replacement will probably be just as low quality. My original review was much more detailed, but it was censored because I mentioned a competitor. Very sad. Won't buy Marmot again.

I bought a size above my normal winter coat preference. I love this coat!! I'm 5'2" and a size XL hits about mid-calf. Winter is winding down in the northeast, but I wore it today for some predicted winter weather. I was super cozy - felt like I was wearing a nice fluffy down blanket. I love the chest level pocket placement. Highly recommend for anyone that has to spend time out in the weather!

This coat surpasses my expectations. It's ultra warm and comfy. As other reviewers have noted, the placement of the pockets is a bit odd they're too high. It works OK for me, but may not for taller people.

I purchased the black in an XS based on guidelines. It fit fine but I wanted it a bit bigger. The black was sold out in a small. I very hesitantly went with this color instead and WOW am I glad I did. The color online doesn't do it justice. Think of a pond filled with sun-bleached lily pads. The prettiest shade of green! So many compliments and a great way to add some color to the dreary, cold, NY winter dog walks! It is lightweight, squishable, and WARM. The inside sleeve liner is snug around the wrists, would love to see thumbholes there. Hood isn't too large. Inside zipper pocket is an added bonus. I am 5"3", 110, the outside pockets are deep and placed a bit above hip height , but I like it better. Overall 5 stars.

I love this coat. The fit is true to my usual size. Other reviewers did not like the placement of the coat's pockets. I find them to be just fine and, the pockets are very large. I especially love the length of this coat. It goes well below my knees, keeping my legs out of the wind and cold. The jacket's sleeves are lined very well and keep out the cold. I live in Wisconsin and it gets cold here in winter. This coat is constructed to keep me warm and in style. Added bonus, got it on sale for 60% off!!!

I hesitated on this coat for a long time because of the length. I am 5'4" and thought this coat would be too long. It comes between my knee and ankle, which was perfect. I agree with one of the reviewers that this coat works well for petite people because of the placement of the pockets. For me, pockets were perfect. After trying 4 different winter coats and a couple of raincoats from Marmot, my impression is that Marmot in general are better fit for people taller than me with long arms, so pockets on this coat was a happy surprise find for me. Sleeve length was a bit long, but it wasn't the longest among the coats I tried. I like that this one has a detachable hood, because jackets with attached hood had high neck that wouldn't lay flat and stood a bit too tall. I also like that although the coat has tapered shape with narrower waist, it had enough room for layers. It is not too puffy, but still a warm coat. I ordered black, which was a bit too flat/matte unlike other black coats I tried from Marmot. It's a really great coat overall.

I have researched and researched winter coats, and kept coming back to this one. I am so glad I finally purchased because this coat is amazing. I am 5'5 140 lbs, and a B cup, and I carry my weight around belly/hips/thights. The Medium fits exactly as I hoped it would. There is enough space to wear additional layers, but this coat is so warm and cozy that I have NOT needed to--it's really game changing if you live in place with brutal winters. I would reccomend this to anyone and everyone looking for a coat that provides significant warmth. A+ to Marmot for this coat, I am very pleased with my purchase. I noticed there were some complaints about the pocket placement, and maybe if you're a taller gal, it's more of an issue? But at my height (average height, 5'5) plus the depth the pockets, everything feels quite normal and comfortable, literally zero issues. 10/10!

I am 5 feet tall, 117 lbs. struggling to find a maxi coat that does not make me look like a toddler wearing adult clothes. What j love most about this coat is that it has side pockets high and when I wear the coat, the pockets are right above my hips, which makes me look well proportioned. The coat itself is highly breathable and lightweight. I have Patagonia Silent down coat of the same size XS and I think this Marmot is more breathable and equally warm. The design with zippers near at the bottoms allow me to walk freely in high snow. I wore it in 29F today and I feel toasty. Hope it keeps me warm in oF

Pleased with this purchase. The places I traveled to had been freezing, biting cold and even snowing. The coat helped me survive the very cold winter weather.
