I liked a lot about this shoe, but was looking for a supportive fit. This felt too squishy to meet that parameter. I wanted something that felt more stable! Otherwise GREAT shoe

I love the foot-shaped shoe, esp re the toe box: almost all other shoes are way too narrow in the toes for me, but I can't get wide widths, because then they are too wide in the midfoot & heel. (That's also because most shoes are built on a man's last, which is straighter though the entire shoe......these are built based on a woman's foot, which does tend to have a narrower heal and wider toes). With these actually shaped like my foot, they actually fit.
I also like a lot about the zero drop, except that I personally do need support in the arch. I realize that the point of these shoes is to use the foot's structure more naturally, so an arch support somewhat defeats that purpose. However, I have had previous serious injuries & surgery on one foot; so while I do need the arch support, this is not something that would be a problem for many people. (I wish these had been around before I had those issues - they may have prevented me from having them.) I added Super Feet insoles, & they help some; however, I normally really need custom orthotics. Those won't fit in these, as the toe box is not deep enough for them (wide enough - yes; deep enough - no). Again, this may not be an issue for most people, but I thought I'd mention it for those who also do need custom orthotics.
The only other thing I really do not like is the partially attached tongue. It makes it harder to pull the shoe tight enoguh around that part of my foot. It is possible to do, just not as easy as with a detached tongue. It is WAY better than the shoes that have the entire tongue attached, though.
All that said, overall I really like these shoes.

This is my first pair of Altra’s and not too bad. I like the extra room in the toe box without the shoes feeling too wide overall. Good traction!

Only been a week, but pretty happy so far! They seem a little large but that may be that I’m not used to zero drop shoe design. I was scuffing my toe when waking for the first day, but as I have gotten used to them, I have no problem!

Comfortable and look great! I left one star off overall because they are a bit slick on wet surfaces. I wanted a good cross country shoe and they seem to be fine in dry grass but running across a cement walkway to get to the trail they were so slick I almost fell. My daughter did fall in hers.

I do really like the shoe, but in other tennis shoes my pronation doesn’t seem to be an issue. This shoe - I pronate a lot!!! So it need an arch support to hold me up. I’ll have to add my orthotics.

I really like the shoe, however it has no arch support. I pronate, and need support there. I literally feel like my ankles/feet are collapsing visibly when I wear the shoes. I put on my other tennis shoes just to verify (also without arch supports - Brooks) and I was not collapsing. I will try to put my orthotics in the Altra and see if this helps me, but I am a bit bummed because I was very excited about trying these shoes. So as for now, I don't have a great update.

I usually wear an 8 1/2 to 9. Ordered a 9, and it is a bit short. So this definitely runs short. I will be returning these.

I love the look of the Superior and the toe box is a bit narrower than the Timp, Lone Peak and Olympus-which is better for me. Those are too wide and I slide in them on uneven trails. In the Superior I do not. I had the last version of Superior and thought these felt the same. My only complaint is I wish the Superior was a bit more cushioned. My feet are tired after a long hike. I love the removable stone guard. Sadly, the pair Zappos sent me did not have them (shoes came in a recycled box), so I returned them.

Sent back, then ordered lone peak 5.0 in usual size. Fits great, love the color. A tad light weight. Miss my old lone peak 3.5

I loved these shoes and wanted them to work so bad. They were my introduction to minimalist shoes and felt wonderful with one exception; the tongue of the shoe was stationary on one side (so little adjustment could be made). It came up so high on my ankle and was so stiff that it was painful to walk. Unfortunately, I had to return them.

These were my first pair of official trail shoes. I wore them on a few training runs, and then for my first ultra-marathon! Unfortunately, it was downpouring for all of the race day, so I got to find out just how slippery these are in wet conditions (especially on wet rocks). But hey, I didn't fall so they couldn't have been too bad! I also lost two toenails by the end of the race, as it felt like my foot was slipping around a lot (that could just be from running an ultra, it was my first one so I have nothing to compare it to). They felt comfortable for the most part, they are definitely less cushioned than most other shoes which were what I wanted! I probably wouldn't buy these again, but I definitely don't hate them or have any huge complaints, I just don't love them.

Loved the style, nice roomy toe box, very comfortable out of the box EXCEPT I need an elevated heel. The design is meant to mimic the way our feet really sit on the ground, but it doesn't work for me, I am too used to typical running shoe construction. Had to return but I really wish I could have worn them because they are terrific in every other way.

Loved my superior 4. Tried the 4.5 in the same size and immediately knew they were too small. Even tight in the toe box! What happened! Will try again in a larger size.

I love these on dry paths. They are so comfortable! I appreciate the fit and zero drop. I only wish they weren't so slippery on wet paths. They would have received 5 stars were it not for this one flaw. Given that they are meant for trails, I feel they should not be so slippery. I still absolutely love them though!

I'm a huge fan of the Altra shape, but this shoe is not designed for someone with high arches.

I have had the past few versions of the Superior and really enjoyed them. I got the 4 and 4.5 in my usual size, 10.5 (am a 10 in regular shoes and 10.5 has been my Altra size for years). After about 5-6 miles in these shoes, I got significant sesamoid irritation in one foot and bruised toenails on the other. Finally, I went up another half size and things seem to be much better. I'm not sure what the deal was but something got narrower through the shoe's evolution. Going up a full size from my regular shoe size was surprising but I have gone up to 13 miles in these newest 4.5's and all is well. Starting 50k training soon, hope they continue to work for me! I use the Escalante's on the road and Lone Peaks on winter trails and love so much about the Altra brand.

Never wore these before. Found them comfortable to run in for 6 miles. Didn't cause foot numbness like Asics do.

I run and hike in Altra's. I am a huge proponent of wide toebox and 0 drop and this is my 6th pair of Superiors. This pair is smaller and made with different fabric than the others. Light, soft, cute, they shape beautifuly to my feet- and I felt "one" with the shoe and totally unhindered. The tread remains grippy and the fabric is holding up to rocky trail. For the first 100 miles, they were my favorite model yet. Now that I've put distance on them, I find myself turning to the previous models (and other brands!) for the following reasons: With time this model doesn't have much support and the bottom kind of flaps along. They also bother my heal- an issue I previously never had, and hold smell- maybe they don't dry as well as other models? I think I will buy a different shoe to try to address my heal issue and have these primarily as hikers. I'll try to give an update in the future after I've had them a year. Bottom line- 0 drop is the way to go, this model is delightful but doesn't seem to be built for distance.

I'm a big fan of the Superior trail runners, I've had the models 2, 3, & 4. But something happened with the model 4.....they all have super long laces. I can't even figure out a way to lace them so that they don't hit the ground. I'm going to have to buy new laces for all of my recent Altras. I suppose buying laces isn't the end of the world, I've just never had to do that for new shoes before!

I bought these for my daughter for Cross Country. Big thanks to Kelly Hutchins for his recommendation. She loves them! She has a wide foot so fit is always an issue with many brands. This shoe is very lightweight, comfortable, and has amazing traction. The only reason I gave these 4 stars is because we are new to Altras and I'd like to see how they will wear over time.

A bit hard to pull on as the tongue is only free on one side. Definitely a different feel, but I think it is shifting my posture is a positive way.
