I like the lightness of this shoe and the way it distributes my weight in the stride when landing.

I got these on the recommendation of the running coach I work with, Eric Orton. I am very, very pleased with these shoes. I run in the barefoot style and almost always on trails that are pretty rocky and varied. From the very first run these shoes fit very well and offered the perfect balance of cushion for the terrain and a design that really allows my feet to function as-if barefoot. I am online today to buy my second pair. Highly recommend.

These shoes are everything I'd hoped. I have been looking for a pair of black Altras that I can wear for everyday and also to take a walk with my grandkids. These are perfect!

My third pair of Altra shoes. Will get more of these in other colors. They're comfortable and lightweight. My orthotics fit nicely inside and there's lots of toe room. This company makes great shoes!

I was introduced to Altra's by my PT, and now won't wear another other running shoe. You can't believe the difference it makes having a wide-enough toe box and no heel. This new Escalante 2.5 fits just like the old Escalante 1.5. Very comfortable footbed and enough cushioning for long distances. The mint green color is really pretty too if you care about that.

I'm a big fan of the 2.5. Right out of the box, it felt like a dream. I found 2.0 to be a bit stiff, however, after 200 miles, they felt perfect. I just don't want to wait 200 miles to break in a shoe. Compared to the Kayenta, I find the Escalante has more room in the toe box, but not as much as the Torin or Torin Plush (I had a lot of lateral movement in the Plush). The Escalante Racer has a little more ground contact, and, in my experience, wears down a bit faster than the Escalante 2.5. To me, this is the happy medium I was looking for. I'm tempted to stock pile, because I worry the next update will change too much!

I struggle with consistent foot pain and am working with a PT who specializes in gait/lower extremity and recommended these and I'm so grateful she did! These shoes have a wide toe box that allows for proper splay and I can even wear my CorrectToes in them. The profile is just right so they feel snug without being tight (like the 2.0) and the cushion is just dreamy. I had been wearing barefoot trainers that I liked ok but after long walks/hikes/etc my feet were so sore. I do need the cushion and these provide that without feeling heavy and still providing the zero drop feature. I've got 50+ miles on them so far and I'm still as happy with them as day one. Would love to see many more color choices.

I switched to there shoes because the torrins didn't have my size and I badly needed new shoes. Turns out I love these much more! I will be buying these instead.

I was introduced to the Escalante by my chiropractor about 6 years ago. For years I wore Adidas Boston and when they changed the sole to their boost nonsense, I was left with such painful shin splits that it felt as if my shins were going to snap off. Escalante became my trusty road partner thereafter. Although colourway is not a deal breaker, I remember thinking how dull and feminine bias the colours were. in recent years, you introduced the racer which I love just as much as I run without socks. The changes to the toe box in the 2.0 made my morton's toe unhappy and the ride felt stiffer, but for the most part, I was still in love. These babies arrived yesterday (from Road Runner Sports) in the red colour and out of the box my heart swooned. Tried them for a test ride and my feet sang, particularly the toe box; quite accommodating to my longer toe and allowed for a more of a natural feet spread. During my mile run, I never felt them on my feet as I did the 2.0 and my feet felt more connected to the road. I ran bare feet during my earlier track days in the Caribbean, but would never run on the streets of Boston bare, however, these shoes are the next best thing for allowing the feeling. I still push off from my toes and there was no dragging or hesitation, rolling down a hill was smooth, momentum strong as I turned a corner to tackle an incline and push offs up hill was sweet as these shoes in no way felt heavy as the 2.0. I AM IN LOVE AGAIN!!!! Leave it alone please, just up the colours. Some of us like other colours beyond pepto pink, black, or dismal grey :-).

I walk a lot and had a pair if Torin 4.5 plush but did not care for the padded shoe tongue. I deflated the tongue because it caused more tightness in the upper part of the shoe. Went and bought these today and they feel so good after walking for 45 minutes. The wide toe food bed is great for my Morton's neuroma on my right foot. Will be purchasing another pair of these shoes. Wish they had more colors available.

I have a perma-injury in my left foot that has made finding running shoes difficult and frustrating with a lot of time-consuming trial and error. When I found the Escalante a few years ago, I became committed and went through three pairs. Then, Altra "updated" the Escalante and took away all the things that made the shoe work for me. I was heartbroken. I tried the 2.0, but the stiffer upper and less flexible sole would have forced me to compromise between a shoe that was too big or a shoe that rubbed terribly. Either way, I was hurting and returned the shoes. I ended up in Torins that are good for my running form, but too plush and heavy for me to ever feel natural in them. For weeks I was running like a cat with sticky notes on her paws. Thank you Altra for bringing back the best of the Escalante! I'm back in a running shoe that feels true to my size, is light, and cushions my foot during my road runs and still lets me "feel" the ground beneath me.

I am sooo happy Altra went back to the roots of the 1.5! It is just a bit less flexible, however not a problem. The 2 did not even seem like the same shoe. (Appeared to have been changed drastically) The 2.5 has returned the sock feel of the innersole and tongue length while keeping the wider toe box. Laces are also back to a nice length. Thank you!

I was a die hard fan of the Escalante 1.5. I put over 400 miles on 8+ pairs of those shoes. I lasted about 150 miles in my first pair of 2.0's and just couldn't do it, and started scouring the internet stocking up on 1.5's waiting for the 2.5 to drop. The 2.5 goes back to the lightweight and flexible feel of the 1.5. I LOVE THEM.

I didn't get the last version of the Escalante because of the scathing reviews it received. I had stocked up on the version prior to that and was down to my last two pair when this new one came out. I ran in it this morning and am super happy with the feel and performance. The upper has tons of give - very similar to the Escalante Racer, with a little more support. They are wide enough to make my sad bunion and neuroma feel happy. They pretty much feel like the same shoe from two versions ago.

The bottom of the shoe feels squishy and bouncy. I have been wearing these everyday at work (I'm a fitness instructor). I am on my feet all day so it's important to have comfortable shoes. I like how the rubber bottom is black (I got the grey and coral coloring). With a black sole it's easier to give off the appearance of cleaner shoes since no one can see dirt as easily. More black soles please! They're a comfortable shoe that goes with everything. I'm slightly confused with the sizing because A couple years ago I got the solstice size 7 and those fit perfectly. With this shoe I got another 7 but it feels spacier than the solstice. I love altras but now I'm not sure if I trust their sizing. Other than that I love how good quality they are and that they have lasted me this long.

Great shoe for errands, casual walks, etc. The mesh upper doesn't feel supportive enough for my feet when running, which is a disappointment, as the Torin 5 has been a huge letdown.

Original Altra shoe shape was priority 1, so ended up with Escalante 2.5. Not my first choice based on other criteria, but have to live with that. They fit, are comfortable though too "floppy" for lack of a better term.

Love this shoe! As soon as I put it on it was super comfortable and I wore them right out of the store, I even had them throw away my old shoes! I love the foot shape toe-box, and have always had a hard time finding a shoe that works for me, so finding Altra feels like a miracle. All that being said, despite how comfy it is, because the shoe has a "sock-like" upper, if you take a mis-step you can actually almost fall out of the shoe from the side, so be careful when wearing them. Also, they're pretty pricey, so not accessible to everyone who may be able to benefit from this type of shoe. Minus one star for those two things, but otherwise these shoes are amazing and I will likely be buying shoes from this company for a long time.

This is my second pair, I love them! But the bad thing is the Altra "swish" on the side of the shoe is just an iron on and came off before the shoe wore out. You would think for the price you would get a swish that lasted a long as the shoe.

So far I like these shoes. The fit is amazing if you have a bunion or need a wide toe box. Only issue is the zero drop. The first 2 times I wore them my calves hurt. Today is better. As long as you do well with zero drop they are great
