Like many others, I was a big fan of the 1.5s. The 2s were way to stiff for me and I was happy to see the 2.5s went back to the sock like upper, tried them on briefly in the shop and took them home. However, after 50 or so miles, these just fit awkwardly now (see picture). The toes of the shoes turn inwards when I run and the outside edge of my feet spill out. This has lead me to a weird experience in which the shoes feels to big (lots of room for my big toe, inside edge of foot) and too narrow (my pinky toe and outside edge of foot spills over the end).
I don't know what is different about the 2.5s, but there is still just something off with how they fit compared to the great 1.5s. The softer upper is a move in the right direction, but maybe the lacing or design of the 2's is still just a miss for me?
This has been a bit of a trend for Altra and myself. I absolutely loved the 1.5 and Torin 4s. But the 2s, 2.5s, and new Torin 4.5s all fit either too narrow or weird.

I'm normally a size 10 but with Altra I've found I have to go up to size 11. I tried these on against the Escalante 2.0 and Lone Peak 4.0 that I already own. I understood that the 2.5 was wider than the 2.0 (which are too narrow for me by not giving enough room for my outer two toes, enough to cause discomfort walking), and yes, that is true, they are wider. However, I could tell that they still weren't wide enough for my outer two toes and they were not as wide as the Altra Lone Peak 4 (which fit me great). I don't get why Altra needs to change the last between these shoes. It's like they're wide for narrow footed people, but not wide enough for wide footed people. It's a good looking shoe and has a comfortable footbed, but I knew the lack of width would be a problem so I returned them.

Escalante 2.5 is a much needed improvement from the 2.0. The toe box is more like the rest of the Altra lineup like the Lone Peak. I am a zero drop fan and this shoe fit the bill. The upper is a mesh type that really lets my feet breathe.

I'm an Escalante 1/1.5 fanboy. I didn't like the Escalante 2, but wanted to give the 2.5 a try. I love them. It's nice to be back. I love the Ego sole and sock-like upper that the Escalante 1 introduced me to. I do think the sole is slightly more responsive/less cushy than older Escalante versions, but personally I prefer it that way.
My one gripe is the lack of heel-lock lace holes. My foot felt like it was slipping around inside and not very secure. I wound up punching my own hole between the last two upper lace holes to make the heel-lock and that seems to have done the trick. Please put that heel-lock hole back.

I am a tall woman with very wide feet and have worn men's 10 running shoes for decades (many of them Altras). At this point in my life, I walk several miles a day rather than running. These are wonderfully comfortable walking shoes, possibly better than my ragged old Lone Pines. All the flexibility and room for toes with enough cushioning to protect me from stones. To me, these have the width fit I was always used to from Altra - unlike my new Lone Pines, which fit differently from my originals. I'm buying another pair of these Escalante 2.5's for my husband.

I generally order my Altras a half size bigger. Served me well here too.
The Escalante 2.5 feels like a slipper putting it on, and it feels excellent during runs. My only minor complaints are that it makes a bit of a slapping noise while running, and it feels a little warm while running.

Remember when Altra used to make unique shoes that were actually wide in the toe-box, roomy, foot-shaped? Long gone are those days. Altra has completely lost it. Their width in the toes of all their latest models (stretching back 3ish yrs, to be fair) is roughly the same as traditional running shoes now. They ridiculously NARROW. Absolutely no reason to buy Altras anymore. Beyond disappointed. Altra, you're losing/have lost your customers.

I have used the escalante 2.5 for a little over 4 weeks not and they have given me nothing but plantar fasciitis. they feel a little too cushy on the ground and I have not been able to get past this PF despite exercises, stretching, and ball rolling
I would not recommend to anyone who has a history of plantar fasciitis

This is the most recognizable shoe that I ever wore. It truly delivers a differentiated running experience in terms of lightness, comfort, flexibility. A very narrow excellence that was definitely achieved with the 2.5 and miserably lost with the 3. We need to go back. Please don't make us buy used shoes!!!

The .5 editions of the Escalante's are always the best. This is the best shoes I've had in a while. I wish the 3's were more like this. The sole lasts longer, the tongue is more comfortable and cooler, and is an overall better shoe. I don't like that they change so much from the 2.5 to the 3's. I wish they would release this shoe again, I'd buy 3 pairs.

Why'd they have to change this shoe? I've logged over a 1,000 miles on multiple pairs of escalante 2's and 2.5's, but won't spring for any of the new road shoes when I try them on. I wish Altra had never sold out. VF Corp seems to be more about cheap production and breaking into non-runner markets, while the milk the origin story of the brand for as long as they can.

This (the 2.5) is hands down the most comfortable shoe I've ever run in. The upper is minimal, breathable and sock-like. The toe box fits my wide, hard to please feet. The newer Esc. 3 feels no way near as good on my feet with its more conventional thick tongue and padding. Since buying the 3 I've bought three additional pairs of the 2.5 which are now waiting patiently in their boxes. Long live the 2.5.

I started wearing Altra shoes when I developed achilles and knee problems. My 1st few pairs were the Solstice. When they were discontinued I switched to the Escalante.Tongue like solstice would make it better

This is easily the best overall Altra I've owned. Fitnent, color, durability. Then the new version went narrower and now this isnt available. What's the replacement? Ugh. . . So sad.

This shoe is perfect. I have others that I am rotating through, but both of my other brands are too tight in the toe area. The Altra Escalante fits perfect in the back and has enough room from the ball of the foot forward that my foot isn't constricted. The shoe is built well enough to protect my feet, but is not overbuilt, so my foot can do what it naturally wants to do. I am adjusting to zero drop, so rotating through my shoes is okay, but I expect to be all Escalante in the next month or two.

I've been running in brooks for years. I've been hiking in Altra lone peaks for several years and loved them. I thought I'd try out the running line. Brooks makes a good running shoe. I've logged many miles in them. I've take the escalantes out for probably 50 miles so far and absolutely love them. Will definitely buy again.

Love these shoes. Having worn about every brand out there these are by far my favorite. Love the extra room in the toe box. I just switched over from Nike Pegasus. Sooo much better.

I run almost every day and have put over 1000 miles into these and they are still in very good condition. The fit is also nice and I have no problems with foot pain or how they fit.

I walk 10+ miles a day 5-6 days a week for work. These shoes have not only held up to the demands of work but I have gone trail running in them, done yard work in them, gone hiking through snow in them, and they hold their own through all of it. I was suffering from planters fasciitis and sciatica with my old shoes, I tried every single shoe insert and Ortho shoe in the market. Nothing has even come remotely close to these shoes. I'm not exaggerating when I tell you they changed my life.

The Escalante 2.5 were very comfortable out of the box, they may have been a slight bit small for advertised size, but being a 13 or occasionally 14, there’s no 13..25. So a 13 with a slightly thinner sock is the ticket, which is fine, as it’s not a trail shoe. I find the Altra trail runners true to size, and have enjoyed the Lone Peak series.

This is my first pair of Altra shoes and so far I love them! I have about 15miles on them and they have been the most comfortable pair of running shoes I've ever owned.
Would recommend :)
