This is my 11th pair of Altras, but it may be my last. I have a drawer full of high end socks of every thickness, but they all slide down in the new Torin. Never had this happen with any other Altra. The sides also feel higher. They rub on my ankle bone where no other pair of Altras have. Would have given the prior Torn models and Torin Plush 6 stars if I could, but the changes to this model make it a very different shoe for a different foot.

So I'm not one to write reviews it if I do it's because I need to and maybe just maybe someone out there might read this and think twice before purchasing(if they are new to altra shoe and/or new to foamy plushy shoe) I read reviews on how this was the go to shoe for an extra plushy feel, now I had running shoes before but not with the extra foam. I felt like the extra foam might help my knee pain when running 4-6 miles. I went to a store tried them on and they obviously felt different then what I was used too (I alway enjoyed feeling the ground, not a lot of cushion) but I thought I needed extra. After my first I felt ok definitely needed to get used to them, after my 3/4th run. I felt pain in my heel not fun when I was long away from home and at 3 miles. Also it rained the day before and I felt no traction( yeah I know they aren't tail shoe or all weather) I felt like I was slipping living in PNW I should probably have worn different shoe. Maybe these only do great in the summer. Anyway before you purchase please consider there is no arch, some cushion and not great on wet roads. Wish I could return to the store and try and different pair especially for the price I paid.

The Torin 4.0 Plush was a dream come true for me. Finally a shoe designed for a woman with a narrow heel and a wider toe box. Also, I've broken both ankles from exterior rolls and I'm a true believer in Zero Technology now. The 4.0's were worn out so I decided to order both another 4.0 and 4.5. I have to say the 4.5 is more attractive, but still not the cutest. However I'm more into walking shoes for their performance, not their looks, so whatever. But I ended up returning the 4.5's because I tried to wear them twice and both times got a blister on my heels. I've compared the heel area on both shoes, similar height and cushioning so no idea what that's about, but the 4.0's are definitely a better shoe for me. Highly recommend 4.0.
I'd also recommend:

These shoes have wonderful cushion, which is what my metatarsalgia needs. However, they are so wide in the forefoot I had wrinkles snd wrinkles of material. Please make at least two widths, N and M, in women's shoes!!

I loved the upper, the wide toe box, and the more-fitted heel - these were the best-fitting shoes that I have worn in terms of fitting my normal heels and wide toes. I've jogged in low-profile shoes for a few years and like them. I switched to low-profile because the typical higher drop in running shoes was just wearing on my knees. Oddly, these shoes killed my right knee after 3 runs - I feel like the insole has a bump in the middle - it's not flat - which pushed me to use the balls of my feet more when I jogged. It felt odd, but not bad - until my knee just went out. So, sadly, they are going back. Could be good for walking around town or standing, but just didn't like that hump in the arch of my foot when running, and cannot risk knee injury.

I am on my feet all day and just walking. I don't run anymore and have problem feet. I wore the Escalantes for 2 years (a pair a year). They were comfortable but wore out easily. I got the Torin 4.5 Plush because the store clerk told me the Escalante was discontinue. (not true apparently). This Plush shoe feels narrower in the toe box and I feel that there is no cushioning. My feet feel "squeezed" which bothers my neuropathy. It makes me think about my feet even when I'm sitting and driving. I decided to look online and found a new pair of Escalante 2 which arrived today. They are much more comfortable and roomy in the toe. I wanted to love these, the color is very nice but it's all about the it.

I absolutely love the foot bed and the space in the toe box. Unfortunately they ruined what could have been the perfect shoe by giving it the worst tongue I have ever experienced. The edge is strangely sharp so if you wear ankle socks it rubs really bad. But the worst part is the pain across the top of the foot. Instead of adding a piece of fabric across the top of the tongue for the laces to go through, they use a cutaway so that the lace goes behind the tongue and sits directly against the top of the foot. Like literally nothing between the lace and your sock. The entire rest of the tongue is padded but it's completely irrelevant because a half inch of lace is pressing against the most prominent section of the bone on top of the foot. Maybe they were trying to shave weight but it's a terrible trade off for the pressure point it creates. I'm seriously disappointed as this was my first pair of Altras and they were quite the investment but now I don't if I can wear them.

I started walking 40-50 miles a week after a heart attack and my go to shoes were Altra. Four years ago I fell in love with this brand because of the design. The comfort of the toe box was amazing, the light weight of the shoe was always welcome to tired and aching feet. I had to get used to the padding changes of different models that I ordered, but I wanted to stick with Altras because they felt great on my feet for the most part. I will never understand why, when you have a great product, you have to mess with it! I have owned 7 pair of altra shoes, from running to hiking to casual. I have tossed my beloved original escalante models, all three pair got holes in the toes within 2-3 months. I have tossed my Paradyme; too stiff and not enough padding, I have now tossed 2 more pair of Escalante 2 because of holes and separation of the heel pad from the shoes. I also donated the latest version of the Torin. You had a great run with me, but your tweaks, cheaper materials and now, messing with the toe box??...I'm done.

I ran 5 miles. The bottom pieces fell off. On my way to return this pair. Going to try them again. I love how they feel.

In a way this shoe felt very different from its sister the Torin 4.0. I'm a nurse and spend 12 hours in a pair of shoes per shift. 1. With it being a plush shoe, I noticed that my feet started to hurt and feel fatigued. 2. I'm not sure what Altra changed in regards to who produces their products. But my Torin 4.0 sizing fit very different to the Torin 4.5. I ordered my regular size and it felt too small. Ordered a half size up and the shoe felt too big! So I gave them a chance and the shoe was a deal breaker after my feet hurt. I feel that you shouldn't have to "Break in" a running shoe. It should be comfortable day one. 3. I decided I wanted a more minimal shoe so I went with the Escalante instead. This style didn't hurt my feet. However, I still feel like the sizing needs to improve. Please change whoever is producing your shoes. The sizing is poor!

I have been in love with my Torin 4 plush. No pain in my feet or knees, stayed on my feet well, and fit my combination feet. I started getting a blister because I have been wearing them out and bought the 4.5 plush. Switching to the 4.5 was a nightmare. My knees are wrecked after a short 2 mile jog in the 4.5s after consistently going 3 times per week for 2.5 to 3 miles in my 4s. I am having knee pain I've never experienced before. They are not plush at allI had to double check the packaging to make sure this wasn't the regular Torin 4.5. I had been so excited to find the first shoe that fit my feet and made jogging an option (the 4 plush). I am very disappointed and sad. And in pain still a week later. I wish they had renamed them to something other than plush so I wouldn't have been so disappointed.

I was honestly super excited to get these shoes as I have family members who highly recommend this brand. However, these shoes have not held up the way I thought that they would. I have had them for less than six months and they already feel beat down and are not supporting my feet and ankles. These shoes allow my foot to roll inward which is putting extra strain on my ankles and knees. This is not anything like the, "locked in feel" that was hoping for. I expected more for the price.

I absolutely loved the Torin 4 plush but the 4.5 changes ruined them. The 4 I loved out of the box, no issues. The 4.5 are narrower, the footbed almost feels like the sides curve up so it compresses the forefoot, they're tighter, less volume, make my toes numb and I got a sharp pinching stabbing pain mid foot.(it's the shoe, I compared with my old ones and a pair of topo's) I'm so bummed but I can't run in them and they have to go back. Hopefully they'll fix the issues or just bring back the 4

I am a woman that tried your product Women's Altra Torin 4.5 style, which does not come in my size. I am usually a size 12, in most shoes, however, this model shoe felt too short in length in size 12. I was disappointed that this particular shoe does not come in my size. I really like Torin 4.5 because of the cushion, and width in the in-step that this model provides. The option for me, was to purchase a Men's version of the same shoe, when I would prefer a ladies version. The men's shoe is made for different pressure points in the foot. I chose the bottom line option, "Yes, I would recommend this to a friend, only because if this particular model would fit, it would be amazing. Please consider making this model in a longer length for ladies for size 12 or 13, as we do come in different sizes like everyone else. We taller ladies with larger feet feel mis-represented in the marketing of the shoe industry. I opt-out of sharing my email address.

There is a manufacturing problem with these shoes. At the end of the tongue, it feels like it is improperly sewn. It feels like it is double. It hurts my foot. It caused a sore at that spot. I have another pair that I love and is fine.

VERY upset about this shoe. Only one problem that is hard to describe but I'll try. The "piece" where the last laces go into is too high and hard and literally digs into my foot when walking. I sent them back but no refund yet.

4.0s were amazing, but 4.5s drastically shortened the well-padded tongue and replaced it with a thin cheap rubberized material, terribly uncomfortable. Further cost cutting evident in generous, braided laces now replaced by cheaper quality laces that are barely long enough to tie, much less double knot if you need to. Altra took a great shoe and Skecherized it, sadly.

I loved the 4.0's so I figured the 4.5 version would be just as good. I only ran in my 4.5's 3 times and now my foot hurts in any shoe. The new tongue, even with what looks like extra cushion, hurt my foot. I had to return them and find the old version. Here's to to hopping the 5.0's are back to the old tongue. Could only find 1 pair of shoes in my size.

The new torn 4.5 plush is nowhere near the 4.0 Plush which I currently own. When I first try on the 4.0 plush I felt a comfort I've never experienced before, like walking on clouds. However, when I tried on the 4.5 Plush the cushion was nowhere near the 4.0. The toe box is spacious but not as spacious as the 4.0, its about 0.5cm narrower. My right heel feels uncomfortable on the 4.5, and my left toes rub the shoe, which makes me wonder if it comes a half size too small. I normally wear a seize 8.5 for casual shoes, so for running I always size up to 9. The altar 4.0 Plush felt a little too big on size 9, I wanted to order the 8.5 size but they were sold out so I decided to keep them and they turned out fine! This time, I ordered the 8.5 and 9 size for the torn 4.5 plush to decide which ones fit better, and the size 9 feels just smaller than the size 9 torn 4.0 plush. Also I read in a lot of reviews that the 4.5 plush didn't;t breathe good, and I know for a fact that the 4.0 plush didn't breathe good either during the hot summer days in Texas, so that's another downside for me toot keep the 4.5 plush. I will be returning them because the level of cushion is just not as great as the previous model 4.0 plush which is SUPER disappointing since I am unable to find another pair of torin 4.0 plush online, they're sold out everywhere. I love the zero drop feature of Altra shoes, so I am considering trying out the Paradigm 5, since what I need is a lot of cushion, that might be my only option. So frustrated the 4.5 plush is not as good as the 4.0!!!! :(

For me the width is OK. I ordered them on line and the left one the shoe box at the top was completely peeling apart in the inside. Had to send them back. Found another pair 2 towns away. You put these on and they feel amazing. The cushion is the best I ever felt. So I bought them and was so happy. Wow, then I take them for a just a walk, forget the run. I just took my dog for a walk, we normally walk around 6 miles 4 miles out 3 miles back but after 2 miles I could feel an amazing amount of pain on the outsides of my heal, especially the right. Then the tongue is so cheap and sharp if you wear them with peds socks the tongue actually broke the skin and was cutting into my ankle. I sat on the grass and took the shoes off and was amazed the outsides of the heal steps over the edge and caused a huge blister. (and I have skinny heals, AA heals, I could not imagine how bad it would be if I had wider heals. Now I had to walk back 2 miles. By the time I got back home I was hobbling and in so much pain. I called the Altra direct to tell them about the heal and tongue issues and my experience and I was told, yes we have had many complaints about the heal and tongue issue. THEN WHY ARE YOU STILL DESIGNING THEM THAT WAY? STOP PRODUCTION AND REDESIGN. It was very apparent to me that Altra was aware of all the complaints but are still manufacturing them. WHY? Why do they not just stop production, and fix the issues. Apparently they would rather loose customers. In a time when there is not much to do due to covid mess, many of us only have the great outdoors and a good walk or run and we sure as heck dont need our feet bleeding!! Horrible design. Altra, honor your customers and fix your sneakers and stop wasting our money selling us low quality sneakers. Try putting your customers feet first!!!

I wore the 4s for years and loved them. Another review outlines the differences with these that make this model uncomfortable. For me the loose fit and the more built-up arch was a insurmountable problem. Loose fit gave me too much lateral movement. The builtup arch was too much with my custom orthotic. I tried alleviating loose fit by inserting a flat insert, but didn't work because of the more significant arch built into this model. I have a mangled foot from injury and nerve damage from surgeries. I can't run anymore but Altra's saved me. I wear little else at this stage, but this model will have to go to Goodwill. I'm now trying to figure out on the web page which models work for trail and street walking and are substantial enough for winter but don't have the same problems as the Torin Plush.

This would have been my fourth pair of the Torin Plush, and until now I was a big fan of the shoe. I specifically was a fan of the nice, wide toe box. In going from the 4 to 4.5, I was disappointed to find that Altra has narrowed the toe box by about 1/4 of an inch. I will be returning this pair.

I've used Torins for years. The new Torins are not up to par at all. No support, a new cushion material that does not hold up to many uses and just overall a terrible shoe. I think I am done with Altra until they return to their roots.

I am 61-yrs. old, I am not a walker or runner, I have flat feet, bunions and Morton's neuroma. My last pair was the Hoka Bondi 6. I went to the shoe store in June; I told the assistant that I'd like the same cushion with a bit more stability at the ankle. He recommended the Altra Torin 4.5. They felt fine in the store and for a while at home; however, more and more often I couldn't wait to sit down and kick these shoes off due to foot pain. It has now been less than 2 months and my forefeet have become so irritated that I am seeking medical treatment, and I am again shopping for shoes. This shoe puts all of the push off onto the forefoot - if you have any type of forefoot problem, don't waste the money on these shoes!
