I gave this base layer a good trial today. Walked approx. 5-6 miles in 30- 40 degree F weather. I had a Smartwool medium weight sweater on top of this base layer, and a light jacket over the two. As you can see by the pictures, the base layer collected and held quite a bit of perspiration. I was not running, only briskly walking on the trail which is for the most part flat. I like the fit and feel of this, but am a little disappointed by the dampness that it retained. Had I stopped for any length of time, perhaps a chill would have set in. It really would not be a good choice for vigorous workout, only an activity that is more sedentary. It is a nice underlayer for casual wear.

I bought this crew 250 base layer to primarily wear on a March snowboarding trip to Vail, but also to serve on early summer hiking trips, as well as to wear around the house on cold days. The base layer worked well across a wide range of temps while I was at Vail. On +5F cold temps paired with a mid layer zip up and snowboarding jacket and +55F warm temps paired with a light softshell, this base layer performed spectacularly. Breathed well, managed sweat well on heavy output runs, and left a 5 day trip (worn every day) completely stink free. Another big plus is that it looks acceptable enough on surprise video calls (you know, when your boss randomly says "Hey can you chat real quick?" and you have to follow-suit and turn on your camera?...) during WFH. Can't wait to put it through it's paces further on the trail and mountains this spring and fall. The only slight complaint that I have it is just slightly oversized in the sleeves and general fit (for a base layer). Not too big of a deal, but the wool fabric gets stretched out a little bit after the first wear too, however I have read that it bounces back after the rare wash.

The Smartwool Men's Classic Thermal Merino Base Layer Crew is an outstanding addition to any outdoor enthusiast's wardrobe. From the moment I put it on, I was impressed by the softness of the merino wool, which feels luxurious against the skin. This base layer does an excellent job of regulating temperature, keeping me warm during cold weather while also wicking away moisture when I get active. One of the standout features is its breathability; I've worn it during long hikes and never felt overheated. The fit is greatit's snug but allows for ease of movement, making it perfect for layering under other clothing. I also appreciate the durability of the material; it holds up well after multiple washes without losing its shape or softness. Overall, I highly recommend the Smartwool Men's Classic Thermal Merino Base Layer Crew for anyone looking for a reliable and comfortable base layer for winter activities or everyday wear. It truly combines comfort, functionality, and style!

I purchased because I wanted a wool base layer, so this item fir the bill. My original order came and both the bottom and the crew neck were way too big. If was not a contoured fit (slightly tight). The large was also a bit big, but a medium would likely be too small for my mid section... Customer service was great when I reached out about exchange/ return. Received new sizes before ski trip!

Bought as a lighter base layer to the warmer one I got a year ago - blown away with how soft and comfortable it is! Planning on another just because!

Best garment purchase in 20 years! Slim sized, so I sized up. Wool might shrink a little with wash.

This classic thermal merino wool is the best merino wool base layer I've ever owned, Durable , stylish and most importantly keeps me warm during extremely cold weather without the need to add so much layers on top, highly recommend it

I wear it as a base layer at work. I'm outside regardless of temperature and this shirt is perfect. I also have the long underwear and they are great too

As a curvy girl, I personally love the men's fit of the classic thermal better because the women's just doesn't fit me quite right. The shoulders fit better, the sleeves are long enough, the torso is long enough and my waist looks snatched. I originally swiped my husband's and now I just bought this one for myself when the women's XL didn't fit me quite right so I wasn't getting any use out of it and Smartwool's guarantee helped me find something I'll actually use, and I use it all. season. long.

Purchased for my husband to take on our trip to Iceland, along with the matching base layer bottoms. Did not disappoint! My husband thought they fit perfectly and were cozy and comfy! Worked perfectly under his snow gear, and even just to lounge in! Will absolutely be ordering more!

Got this for my husband for his bday - he is a skier. Texted me from Tahoe to say this base layer was even better than the Smartwool base layer I got him a year or 2 ago. Used sizing chart and seems true to size
