I love Mizuno. Their quality is excellent. My goal is to be fair and honest in my review of the new Wave Rider 24. I have been running in the Wave Rider as far back as the 19. I am a neutral runner with reasonably high arch and instep. Every Wave Runner between the 19-23 fit me perfectly. These models were clearly the best running shoes on the market because of quality, comfort, fit, durability and lateral support. The new Wave Rider 24 is not the same shoe. Some (hopefully many) may like the new 24, and therein lies the beauty of reviews. What one likes, another may not! Here's what I like about the new Wave Rider 24: The quality is great, the materials are excellent, and the shoe looks good. Here's what I dislike about the new Wave Rider "24": The fit is not the same. The shoe is slightly longer forcing me to go down a 1/2 size. The width of the shoe is also more snug. The 24 is not as deep as previous models. It is more low-profile. I found my foot wanting to slip-out of the shoe. This feeling was compounded by the fact that Mizuno did away with the material in the back that provides support to the achilles area. That extra material found on prior Wave Riders allowed for a more comfortable, secure fit. Mizuno added more heel cushioning to the 24. The wave plate is still there, so the stability is decent. I prefer the cushioning of prior models, but some may enjoy the added cushioning in the 24. Mizuno trimmed away material that holds the eyelets for the laces. More tongue is exposed in the 24 and I feel lateral stability is slightly compromised. An obvious cost-cutting effort on Mizuno's part. Not good. Aesthetically, Mizuno only offers 4 colors for the 24. There were 6 colors available for the 23. I give the 24 a 6/10; whereas, I give previous Wave Riders 9/10. Please return to the previous fit found in your Wave Rider 23 and earlier. Thank you.

I have been running in the Mizuno Wave Rider 24s for about a month now. There are plenty of positives but also a few negatives. First off, the positives. The waveknit upper is comfortable, supportive, and durable. The tongue is one of my favorite features actually. It fully wraps around the foot so it adds support and is never out of place. The outsole has plenty of rubber for good traction as well as excellent durability. The waveplate and midsole provide excellent energy return which allows for maintaining a decent tempo. Now on to the negatives. These are not lightweight shoes. My size 10s came in at 11.22 ounces. Also, the heel-to-toe drop of 12mm is a bit too much for me personally. I would have preferred if the heel had a few mm shaved off to decrease the drop. I think that would also help the shoe to lose a bit of weight. Lastly, the split in the outsole on the heel allows for it to pick up rocks as you run. This can be pretty annoying when you have to stop mid run to remove a rock. Overall, I really like these shoes as a daily trainer. The enhanced durability means I can log lots and lots of miles during marathon prep. Even though they aren't lightweight, I am able to pick up the pace and maintain it pretty easy thanks to the springy midsole.

My sole started falling off after 2 months of normal wear. Very sad. Super comfy and i loved them.

After about three weeks and around 50 miles of wear (mostly walking) the inside of one of the shoes wore away near the heal causing a massive blister. Either design flaw or defect, which at this price point is incredibly disappointing.

Very comfortable for those of us with wide flat feet. I continuously return to Mizuno when it comes to purchasing running shoes.

Purchased these for relatively long distance daily walking (on average, 4 to 4.5 miles per day.) While the shoes have great cushioning, I question the durability. My shoes only have about 125 miles on them, but it appears all of the cushioning is already gone in the mid foot (reference pictures.) Based on what I am seeing, I think these may last 300 miles at best, and one would think walking would be less strenuous on the shoes than running is.

I have always been a fan of Mizuno for all sports, but these shoes are not good. I bought them in January and they are showing major signs of wear. Maybe I was more rough on them than I have been with other Mizuno shoes in the past, but I really don't think I performed any activity to warrant the condition of the shoe. The shoes did feel great for the first month or so. My back felt better while exercising and I enjoyed the style. They really started getting badly damaged after 2 months and quickly progressed from there. I would consider looking into other style shoes instead of purchasing these. Maybe other Mizuno designs hold up better, or maybe I got a bad pair, but I would suggest finding other options.

Coming back to Mizuno after dipping my toes in ASICS. Just finished a 16 miler with “right out of the box” wave riders. ASICS tore at the eyelets first week, holes on both toe areas after fourth run. Never should have cheated. Loyal again.

The waveknit upper is comfortable, supportive, and durable. The gusseted tongue is my favorite feature in some of new releases from Mizunio, so I love in in the Wave Rider 24. It fully wraps around the top of the foot, so no sliding or folding under of the tongue. The upper is stretchy giving my foot room to move and breathable keeping my foot cool on those hot rode runs. Overall, these shoes are a daily trainer that can take the bulk of your daily mileage and hold up to be a walking around shoe long after the running miles are over in the sole. The durability is key when training for marathons as you tack on mile after mile. You can't go wrong with most any of Mizuno's shoes as they are all pretty safe picks to get your moneys worth out of them and the Rider 24 is no exception. I am a larger runner, 6 foot 204 lbs, and run 30 to 60 plus miles a week.

Loved the look and the feel of this shoe, except for the fact that it seemed to be really narrow in the toes. My big toe was pressed tightly against the side of the shoe. So I had to return them. If I had kept them it would have surely led to a blister. I wear a 14, which is what I ordered. No half sizes (no one seems to make half sizes for larger feet) and I knew a 15 would be too big.

Great shoes for my 15 mile per week running routine. They’re lightweight and neutral support. This is my 2nd pair in a row!

I have worn Mizuno Wave Riders for the last 8-10 years, and I've never had the problem that I'm having now with this model: they are significantly narrower than previous versions of the shoe! Unfortunately, the narrower toe box aggravates my neuroma. I'm going to give the E width a try but fear that I may have to move on to another shoe :-(

I always buy a size larger in running shoes. My everyday shoe size is 14B. I bought the Mizuno in 15D. Feels very good and very light. Very pleased with purchase.

These are some of the most comfortable shoes I’ve owned and i really like the way they look. I’ve only had them for a month or so and i do not wear them to run in, so I can’t speak to their durability or support with running, but on the days where I’m on my feet for 8 plus hours my feet feel great at the end of the day. I would buy them again in a heartbeat.
