Fit was snug initially. Break in time was around 10 miles. Very waterproof. Unfortunately delaminated at small toe area on both boots with outer material now tearing away exposing membrane and now no longer waterproof-after only 150 easy trail miles. Pretty unacceptable for this price point in my mind.

I am very pleased with these. I believe they may run a half size small. They are a bit loose in the heel but the waterproof feature is really great. I've not tried them yet for strenuous hiking, but I am confident they will do well. The best thing about these shoes is Zappos! I bought a size 10 and wore them walking for almost a month before deciding my shoe size in one foot is 10.5. To be safe, I ordered an 11 and Zappos accepted the exchange , no questions asked. Zappos is by far the best online seller on the planet.

I tried on 4 pars and kept these. Compared to the others, it seems the arch support is engineered into the foot bed rather than the insole. I still swapped the insoles for the powerstep insoles I normally wear. Now they are amazing. Super comfortable and stable. The tongue is attached to the body of the shoe making them quite waterproof. The rubber reinforcement is heaviest in the toe and heel. There is a lighter rubber coating around the bottom half of the whole shoe though. I'd say this a a great cool to cold weather hiking shoe. I will be wearing them on the trap range and out to the pheasant fields until it snows. A well built hiking shoe indeed. Glad I got them.

This is a very good speed hiker and mountain hiking shoe. It is lite but is very protective of your toes.
You will not feel sharp rocks though the sole. The lugs hold well going up and down hills. Have not tried the waterproofness yet.

I’ve never had a problem with one shoe fitting and the other not fitting. But the right shoe was downright painful and too narrow.

These were exactly what I was hoping for, based on a pair of Mountain Trainer mids that have been my go-to for serious hikes for years. I have high insteps and a moderately wide forefoot and these fit like a glove, I barely have to cinch down the laces. They’re slightly roomier all around than the mountain trainers, better for my high volume feet. They’ve taken no break-in time (although the uppers started snug and have started to pack out just a little as I hoped they would). True to the European size. Awesome lateral stability and grip, the most solid underfoot of anything I’ve tried, very confidence inspiring. Haven’t tested them in truly bad weather or had them for long yet, so I can’t (yet) comment on those aspects.

Ordered normal shoe size. Fit is about right on. Maybe a little on the smaller/narrower side but just a little. They seem very light for how stiff they are. Should be great hikers. Have tested waterproofing and they stay dry. Overall these seem great.

I probably have 120 miles on these now; I purchased a size 11.5, which I normally wear. Fit-wise, they are a little narrow in the toe box and a little loose in the heal, maybe a little short. Most of this can be adjusted reasonably well with lacing. They have a nice stiff sole and good lateral support, if you like that (I do). The rubber is not Vibram, and is not as grippy on rocks, but otherwise has good traction. After a few trips across shallow streams and in snow they appear to be water-proof. Overall, they are fine - not my ideal shoe, but certainly serviceable.

The heals on these shoes do not cup the heal well so they feel like they are slipping off even when laced very tightly.

In the RIGHT SIZE, this shoe I love love love. It's the only shoe I can currently use. But overall I love// hate Salewa. This shoe, gore-tex, walnut is noticeably smaller than non-gore-tex! (We can invent gore-tex but can't figure how to size a shoe using gore-tex? And it;s 1/4 size smaller - enough to hurt horribly after a few hours but not enough to size-up.) Salewa is a small company so they don;t make some models in small sizes (I need M 7) or they don;t make enough and so sell out. Online sales rep breezily wrote "It looks like we just sold out of them, we will be getting more in December and January." in JUNE he wrote that. Plus they have no way to notify me when the new shoes drop. He also suggested I try Women's 8. Hot flash, W8 ? M7. Esp in width. all that aside, when it fits I adore it. // Stock up when they drop!

Very bulky shoes, not a typical Salewa quality.

Out of the box super comfortable. They fit well, and felt great. 2 to 3 weeks in, the rubber toe guard started separating and mesh start to develop holes in the side of the shoe at flex points. If they were less that $100, I would expect this, but not for this price.
