The new Mountain Trainer is built like a tank. I really like the added sheath on top which adds more waterproof effectiveness. The laces have also been redesigned for regular flat laces although the laces they include are very lightweight but switching them out or replacing should be much easier than old model. The shoe is basically a low cut boot and this version emphasizes that. I expect it to take longer to break in but all said and done should be amazing and last a long time. Went up a half size because last version shrunk a bit.

Ultra-solid construction. Great for street wear, but equally great for true hiking. They hug your feet. I have a wide foot, and I ordered a size larger.

One-half size up was perfect for me. This is my second pair of Salewa shoes, they are incredibly high quality.

What happened to salewa this would be the only shoe I would buy. I have about 7 pair. Only one has felt small. It's all I wear usually except in the winter...
I'd also recommend:
None, keep that stuff all leather and advertise More, I just happened to stumble Upon you...

Superb build quality. Strong, functional and comfortable outdoor focused shoes. I have worn them on multiple day hikes, bike rides and several other outdoor activities. A year later they look no worse for wear compared to the day I pulled them out of the box. They will be my main shoe for a hiking trip to Zion and Bryce in the next month. I wear a 10.5 in most running shoes, and I bought an 11 to accommodate thicker socks and a little more room in the toe box. Perfect fit. I am 5’9” and about 175 lbs with feet that aren’t too narrow or wide, kinda right in the middle. They are perfect for me. Someone with super wide kickers may not dig the fit. I have had Merrell , Garmont, Salomon. The Salewa are by far my favorite. Hope that helps you. Enjoy the outdoors.

My feet are slightly different sizes (left is just barely shorter and wider than my right). Not enough to make a big difference in most shoes, but it was a show-stopper with the Salewa shoes. Right shoe felt perfect, but the left was just too tight. I normally wear 11.5 in good shoes (Red Wings), and I sized up to 12 in the Salewa. The shoes seemed solid unfortunately, I had to return them.

Damn, the are low top tanks! Love how solid they feel. I've been on two shakedown hikes (with weight). They're not easy on the feet but I assume this will resolve itself with miles. Only complain is that the heel sits a bit higher than my last pair of Scarpa approach shoes and my ankle has twisted on rocky downhills. Really had to pay attention. We shall see how this goes. Other than that, they're pretty bad ass.

Too tight but length was ok. Returned for larger size 1/2 up.

Way way way too narrow. Will take considerable time to stretch them out. Plan on a while to get them to be comfortable. Looks and quality are very good. My second pair of Salewa’s, just a different style

Extremely uncomfortable shoes. I ordered 1/2 size bigger as some people said. My feet fit in the shoe, I kind of thought they were fine, but several hours of wearing them around the house and my feet are hurting badly. Taking the shoes off was an incredible relief. The shoes are hard on the outside, like hockey skates almost, with no give. I don’t think my feet are super strange and don’t have this kind of problem normally.
