These shoes were very comfortable and required virtually no break-in time. However, I bought them for backpacking use and after two 5 day backpacking trips (50 mile loop around Teton and a much short distance trip through cirque of the towers) the heel portion of the soles are completely blown out. I would mark total mileage around 150 miles and are completely unusable for backpacking. I would highly recommend a different brand. This is my second recent pair of the "Hedgehog" line shoes (also have a trail running pair) and the quality has gone down significantly from when the line was first introduced.

I used it for hiking in Hawaii and they worked great. The only reason I didn't give it a 5 was because the sizes fit a little big, so maybe order a half size small.

I have bought these boots for ~5 years because they are lightweight, have excellent grip on rocks in the wet (Vibram soles), and they are extremely comfortable - right out of the box. Unfortunately the quality of the uppers is not what it used to be. They used to last a year walking 10k steps a day. My last pair only lasted 8 months - you can see the state of them next to the new boots in the photos below. This premature wear appeared after only 2 months, and got gradually worse after that. I returned the previous pair to Zappos after 3 months and they did replace them, but the replacement pair were no better. I am still buying these because of the comfort, grip and light weight - as stated above - but I accept they won't last very long - hence my 3 star rating.

Hiked about 50 miles in these shoe's and a hard bump is forming on the side of the shoe where it meets the insole leaving them unwearable!!!!

I bought these boots five years ago and have hiked in Colorado and many parts of the AT in Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, and Vermont. Boots are comfortable on rocky terrain but also provide a good "feel" for the ground. Great traction and great ankle support even with 25lb pack. No complains. Starting to shop for my next pair and will be buying the same Hedgehog Fastpack II Mid...

I have several pairs of hiking boots. If I am heading out for a serious hike, these would be my last choice. The build and quality of these boots just don't compare to other companies or even other models from North Face. THAT BEING SAID - these are great shoes for everyday use if you need something a bit more than your average sneakers. The sole is super grippy and the design looks great with jeans or hiking pants. All in all, I'd pick a different pair for serious hikes, but if you love the design, these are great shoes for everyday use and short nature walks.

I've hiked on the AT from West Virginia to the Delaware Water Gap PA/NJ border in these boots. I like them so much I bought them once again. Very supportive, lightweight, great traction, and comfortable.

The boot is very comfortable and protects the feet a lot. The interior is soft and great for long-distance hiking.

I bought these shoes for my twin boys and they love them. They are light, durable and have great traction. I also like the rise that comes up a little pass the ankle for extra support.

I used these for hiking 2-3 times a week, love the comfort and the water resistant. I'm a very stylish person and they look great with my other gear. I wish they would offer other colors.
