The perfect insulted layer to take on long hikes or multipitch climbs in any season; my go-to when I need wind-stopping insulation, but have no weight or room to spare. I love the fact that I can pack it into it's own pocket (tiny!), clip it to my harness, climb a pitch in my base-layer, then deploy it and put it on to stay nice and warm at the belay. It's warm and weighs next to nothing. Don't leave the car without one!

I got this for my boyfriend for his birthday. He did a lot of research on what down jacket he wanted and landed on this one. It is extremely lightweight but he says it keeps him plenty warm. It fits snug enough to wear under a shell. He has a Mountain Hardware shell that fits over it perfectly. When we got the jacket in the mail there were a few places where we found loose threads. We cut those off and I don't believe he's found anymore. He had to let it sit out for a few days to fluff up a bit after it was in the shipping box.

Nice jacket, packs down small. Super warm and the water resistance is a nice touch. One thing I don't love is that I find the zipper to be a little finicky.

I bought mine when Mtn Hardwear was having a massive sale, so it was definitely a deal. Great jacket, warm, very comfortable, squashed down very well for packing on a week-long bike trip. Pockets a bit higher than most of my jackets, but I got used to that pretty quickly. I'd actually say the size runs just right to maybe slightly big- I am 6'2" and 205 lbs (44" chest, 36" arms) and am either a L or XL in most things, depending on the brand/style, and a Lg Ghost Whisperer fits me very nicely.

For those complaining about durability: this jacket is 8oz! it's not intended to be hucked thru the trees, that's what puffers with heavy ripstop fabric are for, they generally weigh 20-3x more than this jacket. Ive worn this jacket on long, freezing cold photoshoots in the ice and snow; ive worn it boating down freezing rivers at 20 degrees. The jacket is easy to mend with a little aquaseal, it takes less than one minute (not mtn. hardware recommended i doubt but it works for mine). There isnt a jacket made that's equals this items warmth to weight ratio. The fact you can wear a t-shirt in 20 degree weather and stay warm and dry speaks to the quality. I own both the OG ghost whisperer and the Ghost 2 w/hood. This is the first product ive written a review about, it's that good. Mtn hardware. warranty is awesome. my OG jacket needed a new zipper- mtn hardware had it back to me in a week or two, no charge. Buy it.

The people complaining about ripping didn't know what they were buying and bought the wrong product for their specific needs. This is not meant to be a durable coat it's supposed to weight almost nothing. Ripping is a minimal problem that Tenacious tape fixes easily. Just don't go barreling through a bunch of branches and you're fine.
This is meant for lightweight to ultralight backpacking. Ideally it's not your outermost layer. If that's not what you want then this coats not for you, but the people who didn't know what they were buying and are now complaining are wrong. This is my favorite backpacking puff jacket that I've ever owned

Warm, light weight, and exudes quality. Zipper could be a bit more rugged but after a few weeks have no complaints

First off this is an amazing jacket! Whether hiking or skiing this jacket always seems to keep me at the right temp. I'm 6,3, 195 lbs, lanky and the L fits perfect.
Only negative I have with the jacket is that the zipper feels a little cheap. I have not had any issues but seems like it could be more durable.

This is the perfect down jacket for me for spring, fall and winter. I like the lightweight of it, by maintaining considerable warmth for weight (it keeps me warm with a t-shirt underneath even at -10C) when I zip it up all the way (the collar hugs the neck nicely), wear a hat and gloves. The hood also fits nicely even without a drawstring and is a nice backup too have if it gets really cold. It is my go-to jacket when walking the dog, going to work or making short trips to stores. I like the large pockets and it fits my muscular body type well. The arm cuffs are well designed too. I like the large pockets and cool colors it comes in. When it gets really cold (-25C or below; we live in Alberta) I will wear it underneath my shell. The only small drawback I noticed is that the area around the arms holes is a bit tight as mentioned in other reviews, but this does not bother me too much as I use the jacket more for recreational than active outdoor activities except for skiing in the winter when my arms are down. Overall, an excellent jacket for me and I like the thin build over slightly thicker versions offered by some competitors as I rather like feeling a bit cooler in a down jacket than sweat. Great job Mountain Hardwear!

Great jacket. Worth the price. Warm, lightweight and easy to pack. Love the look and the fit. Good keeps head warm. Love the elastic sleeves to keep warmth in. Amazing that a jacket this light can keep you this warm.

I love mine but got it a couple of years ago when they used goose down. I heard the new ones are duck down. Not as good.

I've had the GW without a hood for the last 3 years. Upgrading to the GW WITH a good is awesome! Extra warmth and no breezes!

I'm very impressed with this jacket so far. It's extremely light and packable, yet very warm considering how small it is. The hood fits snugly around hats as well. The durability is still to be tested, as I've mainly worn it out and about in town, but so far it's a great jacket!

For starters I live in Montana, it's cold. Like really cold. This jacket rips, I'll wear it 20 degree weather with nothing but a t-shirt under it. Currently -5 here, I'm wearing it with a hoodie under it never been warmer. I ski in this thing nonstop, I have a shell on the outer layer and that's it. I've skied it in 30 degree weather, in -10 degree weather, no matter this bad boy keeps heat in and cold out. Plus this is the lightest jacket imaginable, it folds down into a tiny little pocket which makes it brilliant for camping/hiking. It looks sharp and is my go to jacket everyday here.
It's warm, looks great, and regulates heat perfectly. My only complaint is the torso length, it's about 1-2 inches shorter than I would like it to be, but it's still long enough to be tucked into my ski pants. I am 6'3 about 185 and the arms are the perfect length and i have no issues layering underneath or on top of this. I usually only need one layer underneath this if it's frigid out, I can't really see a situation where I would need more than one midlayer.
I can't recommend this jacket enough, if you're gonna buy a higher end down jacket this is the one. Price tag is worth it, you'll never buy another jacket.

I have had several puffy coats before. This one is the lightest, most comfortable one I have owned. It's perfection.

I bought this as an outer layer and as a mid layer. So far very pleased with it as an outer layer with a base layer and light mid layer. Have used it on numerous small hikes in temps in low thirties.

Received my Jacket and did a 3 night overnight on the Pinhoti Trail with temps in the low 20's. Used the Ghost Whisperer a lot of the hike. Jacket preformed great on warmth. Jacket packed great and very light weight. I'll recommend this jacket to all friends and family.
