Toe box is cheap cardboard that bends and creases too easy.

After 2 weeks, there is a crease in the front hard plastic at the tip of the toe box. These is causing a lot of discomfort when wearing. Very disappointed.

I was super disappointed with these shoes. There is a seam at the front toe on both shoes (so it seems part of the assembly process) that digs into my big toe and is really painful after a little walking. This is compounded by the fact that they are a little large and my foot moves around in them. Cannot recommend.

I have been wearing Newbalance for 25 years and this is the first pair that hurt my feet

The shoe is comfortable and supports the foot as expected. I work 12 hour days and it helps with the feet aches at the end of the day. My only issue is that the tongue is constantly needing readjustment as it shifts to the right on the right side foot and to the left on the left side foot. This is really annoying as it makes it uncomfortable and it requires readjusting every 10-20 mins, It may just be the pair I got or a common problem with the shoe line. This was my first pair of NB and I will probably return them because of the tongue issue.

Feels stiff and not comfortable. I always wear size 13 on this brand, but this shoe felt one size bigger.

Compared to other New Balance products these are an entire half size bigger than all others I've worn in my size. Heel is very low as well and the combination of the 2 caused quarter size blisters on both heels preventing me from doing any of my cardio work for two weeks. Will not order again

I purchased the 940 in June '20 because my beloved 1260's were about worn out, and to my disappointment had been discontinued. I primarily run on roads, and require a narrow width stability shoe. This greatly reduces my choices. The 1260 had been my go to shoe for several years and fit my narrow, low volume feet perfectly. I've logged about 110 miles in the 940's. They work but I've not bonded with these like the 1260's. This will be my one and pair of 940's. I'll have to try another model like the 860 or move to a different brand. I don't like how the tongue slides to the side which causes my ankle to come in direct contact with laces. Because of the extra toe room (which I don't need), I feel like they resemble clown shoes when I wear them, although I do have long feet (size 14). I will try a lacing trick to see if the tongue will stay put. For me, this shoe isn't a winner.

The shoe fit well, and true to size. However, it did not stretch very well during the day as my feet might experience a minor amount of swelling during a long day. I really felt the padding in the shoes did not last very long given the limited wear.

I tried this pair but was sadly disappointed. Overall, the wide size felt roomy but the problem was the lower stitching to the sneakers tongue's. The lower stitching felt way to tight over my foot while walking and caused me great pain, which coincidentally NB were recommended for my walking needs. I only wondered, why create such a roomy sneaker, only to have a tight stitch right above your foot. Sorry guys but I give this brand a thumbs down.

Fabric in toe area feels like rough carpet and makes shoe hot and uncomfortable

I buy several pairs of NB per year. I bought the same size (11.5) and width (2E) that I always buy. These were substantially larger in length and width.

Shoe is uncomfortable, sole is hard and not nearly as comfortable as the 840V4

I have flat and narrow feet and have been using the 990 series for 30 years. I recently purchased a pair of 990's for running but wanted to have a second alternative for casual wear. These are advertised for flat feet and I jumped at opportunity. Unfortunately, they are designed for overpronation and the sole is designed and built up on one side for this purpose. I do not overpronate and have slight supination which this shoe exacerbates. I went on lengthy walk and experienced pain in my feet, legs, and knees. Unfortunately I am stuck with these shoes and hope to donate to needy collection effort. I will stick with the 990 which is a superior shoe with better materials (leather trim versus plastic). The 940 shoe is lighter and has a quality insole.

The shoes that I received were bigger than expected so they don't really fit well, and the one I bought previous were sent the wrong size and to small. So I sent those back but a hassel to do so I am just keeping the bigger ones and going with it. Not really happy with shoes.

Bought this shoe for walking, it is uncomfortable and has a harder sole than the 940v3 and 840v3 definitely would not recommend this shoe. Been wearing New Balance shoes for years and this is the first pair that I absolutely dislike.

I bought these as they claimed to be supportive. the material on the top of the shoe is too light / thin and does not support my foot from moving around. I put arch supports in them and they squeak against the side of the shoe. I would not but this model for any type of support again.

Insoles were too long, so they bunched up in the front of the shoes, causing a lump. I took them out and re-positioned them, but the issue remained. The size marked on the insoles appeared to be correct, though. Shoes looked good, but felt heavy and clunky. Planning to return them.

I work while standing on a concrete floor for ten hours a day I laced up these shoes, stood up, sat down and put them back in the box. My old Brooks sneakers were more comfortable. I can't speak for someone that is using these for running, as they were designed. However, I would not recommend for someone using for these work which requires standing all day.
I'd also recommend:
Brooks

It is narrow and fits pretty well. However, the tread design traps mud and other debris which I then track into the house. After I started wearing this shoe, I notice bit of dirt and debris on the floor in places where I walk or sit consistently. This has never happen before so I quickly tracked the problem down to the small pockets in this shoes tread design.

good looking shoes. comfortable, but right shoe is mis-sized. the right shoe is too big. very unusual, because my right foot is bigger than my left and the right shoe was a little sloppy . i hope that it was just a one shoe error and not a batch problem. I will order the shoe again, hoping that the new ones come int sized properly.

Loyal New Balance customer with a 15 narrow. 940's fit a little wider than the 1080's, 860's and 1260's which fit me perfectly. Unfortunately the 940's were bigger in the toe box and did not get the usual feel. Solid looking show just don't fit.

Zappos would not give me a refund! The shoes started out great. However, after about three months, they had two major defects. First, part of the toe box caved in on the right show. Second, on the left shoe, the internal support structure for the heel started protruding inward. Zappos would not refund me because it was past the policy window- but the defects only emerged upon modest use. Others have written about this same problem. Not happy with Zappos. Not happy with New Balance.
