I ordered 5 pairs of sandals from Chaco, Teva, and Merell to try. I ultimately selected the Chaco Lowdown as the best combination of comfort, style and function between them all. After 3 pairs of Teva's I found the style either lacking or dorky looking. Though some of them were the more comfortable option, I couldn't get over the look. The Merell's were not only uncomfortable, but they had a pointy toe-box and made a loud slapping sound when walking on hard surfaces. These Chaco's have a firmer sole, but it still has some give and you get used to it. The arch support may be too much for some as it is borderline for me. Ultimately though, these were the best choice for me. Another comparison is to the Chaco Z2 classic, which I have owned before. The Z2's have the strap on the big toe. I found them to constantly constrict around certain areas of my toe and top of my foot no matter how much I adjusted them. These sandals, because of the absence of the big toe strap and because it is actually not all one continuous strap throughout the sandal is much more comfortable.

Love the sandals. They just had to be returned for a size smaller. Like most Chaco products, the Lowdown runs about a size large. Other than that they are great!

I spend a lot of time outdoors in the SW and consider myself a connoisseur of the sport sandal. I always liked the original Z1s but the soles are thick and they’re a little stiff for by taste. When I saw these I thought I had found the perfect sandal. Thinner more flexible midsole, easy to adjust strap system, the Chaco footbed. This has to be sandal nirvana...not so much. The strap system system doesn’t work that well. It loosens with light activity. No matter how hard I set the strap hooks into the strap the sandals become loose after a short walk. The back strap is part of the adjustable strap system which exacerbates this problem. When the straps start to loosen your foot gets pushed back further and the sandals separate from the foot. I’ve gone down hard a few times when going up stairs or a hill and didn’t notice. I relegated these to yard work or walking the dog but they're not even good for that. The straps loosen and I find myself either tripping over things or continuously stopping to tighten them. The quality is also not that great. The adhesive that holds the straps tabs to the sandals failed. I only had them for about 5 months with light use so I was a little surprised. I contacted Chaco for a warranty claim but never heard back. If you’re looking for a great sport sandal stick with the originals. These have the potential to be great but they’re not there yet.

These are awesome and exactly what I’ve been look for. I wear a 15 in most shoes and 16 in running shoes. I’m a Florida boy and wear flip flops all the time. I can get away with a 14 in flip flops so I was hoping that this would be the case with these sandals. I ordered the 14 and they are perfect. They look really good with this pattern and even though they are large they don’t look crazy big like some water shoes. I will most likely buy another pair of these so that I don’t have to worry about not finding them in the future. Well done!

Worked better than the Z strap chaos but still too narrow in the forefoot. Of course they don't make this model in a wide

I really wanted to love these new Chacos. I'm female assigned at birth, and I have a medium to wide foot. I normally either wear a men's 7 or a women's 8 wide in Chacos. I ordered the men's 7, expecting it to be a similar size, and it's noticeably shorter than my other Chacos size m7, and the width is considerably narrower than a normal men's medium width Chaco. I'm going to try sizing up to an 8. So if you're like me and have a short, chubby foot - perhaps size up!

These sandals are great: great traction, arch support, has held up to intense hikes and water activities and near daily use for 2 summers. I liked how these are much easier to adjust that the Chaco Zs. The only thing off is sizing; be sure to size down! I consistently wear an 8 in other brands but had to go down to a 7 for the right fit. (Thanks Zappos for making the exchange painless!)

I bought these for my husband for an upcoming trip. He loves them! He wanted sport sandals that still looked fashionable. These fit the bill! He's a 10.5, so I got him an 11. They're a little big, but he likes them that way.

I was looking for something between slides and river sandles, and these fit the bill for me. I was worried about two things - the thinness of the sole and the feel of the straps. I did not need to worry. The straps feel just fine, and I have no issue with the amount of support offered by the soles. I'm surprised how comfortable such a minimal sandal is on my feet. Note: I am not using these for hiking or long walks. I use them for running errands and short walks around my house and neighborhood. Size was very slightly big, but I have small feet and tend to fall between sizes.

I appreciate the easy-on/easy-off strap latch. Also, these are the first sandals I've ever owned that allow my little toe to be open and free, forward of the strap.
I'd also recommend:
SAS has a good men's sandal, but they are more "dressy." Plus, they scrunch the little toe.

Needed the style with an adjustable top strap and no toe loop. This fit all our requirements. Order a size smaller if in doubt.

Excellent sandal, but seems to run one size too big. Other than that very comfortable and the build quality seems up to Chaco’s normal high quality. I definitely recommend them, just probably a size down.

Bought these for my husband- had to return and order a full size down. They run really big, especially in the "toe box" area. Great arch support, he loves them.

The arch is a little aggressive for my feet, but I'm hoping they and I will adjust. I like the alternative to Velcro closure, though not sure how to avoid the long "tail" when the straps are tightened down. Build seems high quality.

Great comfort and support. My only gripe is that the fastening straps are too long. I have to tuck them. That said, I'd rebuy them for the comfort, style, and utility.

So far they seem to feel and fit good, I have had (3) ‘left’ hip replacements and a right knee replacement in the past year along with a fractured left shoulder that still needs a replacement and a badly sprained right ankle. So it is really hard to know whether something really feels good or not because something hurts all the time! ?

The straps feel flimsy but seem to hold the sandal OK. Adjusting the one-piece strap took several tries for a good fit. The heel strap seems to work loose after a while, just from regular walking around the house and short walks in the neighborhood on level ground. The footbed and sole seems thicker and hopefully more durable than other brands of sandals I have worn, but only time will tell if that's the case. The design is simple and clean with no molded ruggedness accents. Arch support is better than other sandals I've worn.
I'd also recommend:
Not Teva because the soles have separated from the footbed on every pair I've owned.

Frankly... I could see why some would like these for walking around town and such, but I buy Chacos with the express purpose of being able to go on light to medium hikes on the spur of the moment without having to run home and get different shoes. From that perspective, these simply do not have the snug fit necessary for this. I ended up returning them and will switch back to the more established chaco lines.

Good looking sandal, very light weight. Straps are very functional. If you need lots of arch support this is your sandal. It was way too much for me and way more than my Zvolvs. When I stood still my heel was not touching the sole my weight was mostly pressing on the arch. Wish they would have worked. Zappos was great as always with my return.

I like the look of this sandal and love the brand. But after less than a week of wearing them—after no more than four miles of light use—the adhesive between the strap holder and the rubber sole has begun to show. And in one place, it’s entirely come off. I’m surprised by how low the quality is for such a simple shoe and such a reputable brand. In fairness, the four miles I’ve walked have been in the heat of summer. But aren’t Chacos made for that?
