Most importantly, these are NOT 171/2" around the largest part of the calf - at least the pair I got. My calves are in between 16" and 17" and these did not zip up even with no pants. The foot bed is narrow or at least medium - no room for any bunion if you have one.

This Born boot is absolutely beautiful! The sizing and footbed are accurate and beyond comfortable, and the calf circumference is correct. (That's important for those of us with wide calves!) The leather is ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS! I am sad to say, I had to return these as the top of the shaft tends to flare outwards in a fan shape instead of tapering inwards. There's quite a gap at the top and I'm seeking a more tapered fit. Really heartbroken to send these back!

I have loved Born ever since I bough my first pair of Born may be 30 years ago. I wear 81/2 and my feet are medium width, these boots fit perfectly, the footbed is slightly on the narrow side, but they do fit me. I have large calves, so the wide openings of these boots work, may be just a bit too wide, but I don’t mind. I wear Gap classic straight-legged jeans and I can fit my jeans inside these boots and they look great. The leather is smooth and quality, the felt inside the boots is very comfortable. I can see why some of the comments complain of the footbed not being supportive enough. Although I think I’ll be ok wearing them around, I might just put in better inserts.

The boot is beautiful and it was the perfect fit on the foot (except you'll need inserts if you want/need arch support. However, the "wide" part of the boot, at the top, flared out like a letter "Y" and it just looked so silly. I had to return them. They do not taper at the top. I have weird calves..They're wide in the middle, but not all the way up. Sigh.

I agree with the last reviewer--these boots are beautiful and minimal and everything I've ever wanted in a wide-width boot. But they are so uncomfortable in the footbed! It's narrow and hard and causing pain at the ankle. I love the style so much I might try them up a half-size to see if that helps, but I don't have high hopes. If they were cheaper, I would keep them and see if breaking them in helped, but at almost $200--that's a huge risk.

These are the first wide-calf boots I've tried that easily & comfortably fit my 16" calves, and they looked very nice... not too big, not too small. Probably could have fit leggings & socks inside (They would be way too large for average size 14"-15" calves, however). I usually wear an 8.5 medium width in everything, however my feet are borderline wide size, so I sized up to a 9 in this boot to allow plenty of room for socks... and it didn't work! The toe and foot-bed is the slightly more tapered/less rounded shape and tend to fit tighter in general, so they felt fine without socks, but with socks were way too tight to be comfortable.... perfect calves, tight feet! These boots are made from the smoother, slightly thinner boot leather and might have stretched to accommodate with some work, but the whole point of new boots was to finally get a pair that worked from the beginning. I have other beautiful, expensive boots I never wear because they just don't fit correctly. Usually my problem is the opposite - comfortable feet, tight calves! I ended up returning these and keeping the Born Pointes, that have a more rounded toe and fit wider in the foot. It could have been the perfect boot if Born combined the North calf with the Pointe foot/toes...!

I have been looking for a pair wide calf leather riding boots style for over a year. After knee replacement, I was not able to wear my "classic" leather boots because they were too difficult to get on. I finally resigned myself to saying my boot days were over. Then I gave it one more try this season. They are exactly what I was looking for with the comfort I needed. The leather is nicely finished; the fit is a bit large, but I felt that was OK in case I needed an insert or wore socks; and the width was fine. Best of all, the full zipper means I can easily put these boots on/take off. I've never worn this brand before, and I am pleased !

My first pair of tall Born Boots. They have a very comfortable lining and I really like the color.

The most comfortable boots I own are a pair of Born boots that are several years old. I decided to try Born boots again and they did not disappoint. Put them on as soon as they were delivered and wore the the rest of the day. So comfortable! Some reviews mentioned that the boots flare too much at the top, but I did not find this a problem. Super comfortable, true to size and can be dressy or casual. Love them!

I'm very happy with these boots! I bought them fully thinking I'd be returning them, seeing as no wide calf boot has ever 1. fit my calf, and 2. had leather all the way around. These fit great - and the 17 inch shaft has room enough that it's not squeezing my calf. The arch support is less than moderate, but not non-existant. Comfortable, fashionable boots that I'm thrilled to be keeping!

Wonderful fit, style and comfort. I have a wider calf and can wear skinny legged jeans or leggings with these and they zip up quite comfortably. Classic styling so they go with everything. Comfortable footbed with moderate arch support. Love these.

The wide calf was wider than most wide calf boots are. Beautiful boots, the brown is a warm red medium brown. Sole felt very comfortable. Ultimately returned because the calf felt too wide.

I wear a 8.5/9 and got a 9 so I can wear thick socks. I measured the thickest part of my calves to be 17". They're large and I usually hate shopping for boots because my calves do the same thing my thighs and butt do to me when I try on pants. This boot circumference is 17.5" and when I tried them on there was a slight gap, that is easily filled with work pants or jeans. Even black leggings or tights look ok. I appreciated the cut because it is simple and hugs my ankles without any or extra room. Def recommend if your calves measure 17-18"

These were exactly what I was looking for. I've tried countless "wise calf" and they either bunched weirdly at the ankle or were no where close to being WC. These were absolutely perfect, for well all the way up and the foot area for like a typical boot. Highly recommend

I wear a size 5.5 and I have wider calves, so, I have a terrible time finding boots. These came really close to being great. The leather was nice, but the proportions just didn't work out well for me.

These boots were absolutely beautiful, but the top part of the shaft was too wide for my leg. They definitely run wider than most wide-calf, so if you need something wider, give these a try!

Simple, sleek, and beautifully made. Unfortunately, the calf was quite a bit wider than I needed.

These boots are darn near perfect. I love the clean look and low heel. The inside is soft and they felt comfortable right away. They are great with skirts and jeans. I usually wear a size 7.5 shoe but wore a size 7 in these. My only wish would be that the top circumference was a bit smaller. I have a 15.5" calf and according to the description these are 17.5" however they dont seem to gap too much. Another reviewer mentioned that the footbed was too narrow. I did not have that problem - I wore them to work for 9 hours with no issues. Definitely worth a try, I love them.

THIS DESCRIPTION IS NOT ACCURATE and is not for anyone with a 16 1/2 calf or larger. It is a beautiful boot and very soft but unfortunately doesnt zip up half way. My calf is a little over 17 inches. Very disappointed

not comfortable ... leather too thick

This is a beautiful boot. They fit my 16.5" calf without a problem. The zipper goes all the way down, so they are easy to get on, but the foot felt narrow. My heel and toes were squeezed. I had a thin pair of wool tights on, which is what I need to wear in the winter. Sad to return such a beauty.

The circumference was much too small. I could not zip them up. I'll be returning them.

The calf measurement is supposed to be 17.5, unable to zip them up so back they go. Such a disappointment as they are beautiful boots and I really wanted to keep them.

Comfortable bottom, leather smelled great, beautiful boot. The wide calf - you could drive a truck between the boot and my calf!
