This shoe has all the great features you would want in a hiking shoe, great grip, water repellent, comfortable, and secure. They are also cute enough to be worn as an everyday shoe. Our little one has only worn them for a month so far but the quality of the material and construction is superb, so we have no concerns about the durability after extended use. Merrells reputation and warranty speaks for itself! Shoe is super secure on the heel with nice room on the toe box. Fit is true to size. If your little one wears a 5 then order a 5. The shoe is very easy to slip on and opens plenty wide enough if the kiddo is wearing big comfy socks for the winter. BUY THIS SHOE

Purchased for my grand daughter. She loves them and tries to wear them to bed. They appear to be comfortable and to fit nicely. The soles give her a lot more traction than was the case with her old shoes.

Love these! Easy to put on, water resistant (good for everyday walks - not for splashing in puddles), and my 2 year old actually asks to wear them!

Ought these for my 3.5 year old. I'm not sure how waterproof they are. We walked through a wet grassy field and his shoes were wet inside. That may have been going in through the top. Overall they seem sturdy, flexible wider soles and best of all he can get the shoes on by himself.

There are great shoes and my child loves them. But they are nothing close the water resistant. Walking through some wet grass makes his socks soaked.

Bought 2 pairs for 3.5 and 1.5 year old. They wore them all over Yellowstone and my 3.5 year old did over 2 mile hike in them with no complaints. I like that my kids can mostly out then on by themselves. So far holding up good. My daughter liked the pink and purple colors!

Would have been five stars but the velcro quit. Other than that they are my daughters favorite shoes.

After wearing for a long time, my daughter complained about comfort. This could be due to not wearing high tops often, however. Great grip. Her walking appeared very stable on inclines and back down the mountain.

I bought them a little too big for my little guy but he'll grow into them and in the meantime I'll be having him wear some used hiking boots with a little more traction. That's the only downside currently is they seem slippery instead of having a grip on the ground.

The Merrells I recently purchased, went to Japan!! They are are gift for my granddaughter who is turning four! Her mom and dad do a lot of hiking with her in the rugged mountains around Takachiho! I'm confident the boots will be great! My own Merrells have never let me down!!

These shoes were awesome for our trip hiking the Red Rocks in Sedona. I appreciated that they came in little girl and big girl sizes so my girls could match outfits and provided more substantial ankle support. They do run wider than regular M sized Merrells but this worked out well with our thicker Smartwool hiking socks so the footwear was super comfortable. I even bought the next size up for each for the future. The bottoms do not grip as well as other Merrell Trail Ridge Jr sneakers we bought with deeper grooves on the bottom, so I would just watch your kids a little more closely on slippery rocks and in icy conditions. In any case, these make great everyday shoes. My kids loved them too and preferred them over their other Merrell Trail Ridge Jr. sneakers.

I really love these, and I think they are perfect for growing feet in the outdoors. They have a good amount of flex to them, while still being protective from rocks and the like. I am disappointed because I bought a half size bigger than what my son is currently wearing in three other brands of shoes, so he would have room to grow just over the next few months...but they are even smaller than his current shoes and just barley fit. I know I could exchange the size but my toddler is in love with them so theres no getting them back from him now haha. But, I do like them enough to order another pair. Haven't tried them for their water resistance yet, but I'm sure they are good just like the other Merrell products we own.

My grandkids had 4 pairs of these. They wore them constantly but the velcro stopped sticking and that was annoying to have the top wide open.

Pros - Wide widths available, water resistent shoulder season boot, easy for kids to put on / take off.
Cons - The velcro strap does not stay closed, the fabric of the toe pulled away from the rubber after one month so we had to shoe glue it.

This shoe is great in so many ways. Unfortunately the velcro and elastic don't last. It made the shoe unusable way before the season was over (they were my kid's main shoe). I'd expect better quality for the price and the brand.

We got these shoes in mid November and they are already coming apart! My son loves these shoes but the strap no longer stays stuck and the stitching on the toe is opening up.

This is our second pair of these shoes where the Velcro wears out within a couple of months. I want to love these because they're great everyday shoes for Michigan spring and fall not too hot or heavy, but stand up to the elements otherwise. But it seems Merrell just can't get the tech right on them, unfortunately. Our second pair is going back.

I bought this product for my 3 year old son who loved them. I was thrilled with the zero drop and wide toe box. He's used them for playing, hiking and just running around. It's now 5 months later and they are coming apart at the seams. They aren't going to last much longer and I will be searching elsewhere for replacement shoes. I feel for the price they should be able to be used for more than 5 months and even more than one child.

These shoes are not water repellent at all. I bought two pairs, once for each of my toddlers. They went outside to play on a dewy morning and their shoes, through to the socks, were very damp when they came inside after just an hour. They weren't even playing in puddles or anything. I like the minimalist sole and wide toe box, I wouldn't recommend these for a northwestern environment. Very disappointed, considering the price point, brand reputation, and the fact that the shoes are advertised as water repellent. Would not recommend!

I bought them a little big because reviews said they last well. Unfortunately the velcro no longer works and doesn't close. The soft loop side lost its ability to catch on the velcro hooks. Only used 6 months before this was a problem.
I expected more from Merrell and shoes at this price point.

Velcro stopped working after a few weeks, making the shoe impossible to wear. Rest of the shoe is in great condition but the velcro won't stick. Support told us we can find a shoe repair company and pay to have them fix it...

I have 3 kids and we have been loving Merrell Baresteps sneakers and boots. My youngest needed the next size up and I ordered these because they look so cute and functional. These run smaller and narrower then the bare steps sneaker style. So the size 6.5 I received is smaller then the current 6 he was wearing. I was so disappointed. I ordered them on a promo and was unable to exchange. Love the shoes but the sizing is all over the place.

Elastic isn't attached very well and came detached on both shoes within a couple months. Definitely seems like a design flaw and would not recommend.
