Almost all my shoes are Merrell at this point and 100% of my boots are Merrell. I was looking to replace a pair of boots that had been discontinued and I couldn't find the product name as I bought them at a clearance outdoors shop. Turns out those were Zions, which I could tell immediately after getting these in the post. I got a pair of Moabs to replace my boots and I've put a bunch of miles on them and done a decent amount of day hikes. They always felt super clunky and almost impossible to cinch the laces tight to support my ankle. There's just a lot of extra padding and weight that don't help the boot conform and gives me ankle pain. I'll be donating those boots to Goodwill now that these new Zions are in my life. The reviews saying they are inbetween sneakers and boots are accurate, and that was exactly what I was looking for. The waterproofing is an added bonus and I'll be sure to watch out for how these perform on backpacking trips in the summer when waterproof boots often get way too hot for me. Overall very pleased I rediscovered the Zion line from Merrell and I'm very happy with these boots. They aren't quite as beautiful as they seem in the photos, but that won't stop me from daily-driving these and using them for outdoorsy trips for the next year or two.
I'd also recommend:
Merrell, Altra

I normally wear a 12, but fit a 13 in these. I currently have a pair of Merrell Moab (size 12) that I've put hundreds of miles on and have been fine with but never REALLY loved. I thought these Zions would win the face-off of the new hiking boots I've been trying in order to replace my Moabs, but I ended up deciding they pressed into my ankle in an uncomfortable way. So far my current favorite of the boots I've tried has been the new Teva Grandview GTX boots.

Very comfortable and no break-in required. Definitely run a bit small. Also, very little offset - Merrell doesn’t seem to provide this info for their footwear, but these can’t be more than 4mm if I were to guess.

Very narrow compared to other Merrell Nova shoes I have, thought I would try other styles but no luck with the width.

I own two pair of Zion Mid Waterproof shoes. I keep one pair at home and the other at the cabin. They are very comfortable and waterproof. I use them for short hikes in the woods and as work shoes on my property. They perform well in the woods off trail on rugged terrain. They protect my ankles from the hidden boulders. The soles are not too stiff like some hiking boots and the tread gives me confidence I will not slip. .

Comfortable, light weight overall good for every day ware. Outer soul could be improved to last longer and give better traction for hiking in the mountains.

Bought a pair of these in May. Tried them on and they felt perfect. Always a guess how shoes will feel after 20 miles on the trail. Since May, I've put about 400 miles on them and they have been superb. 90% of those miles have been in RMNP. It includes a lot of off trail hiking and days spent completely soaked as I spend most of my time hiking to fish. These hold up very well on long hikes, I average 15-22 miles and they are a great mix of supportive and lightweight. I just placed an order for two more pairs to stick in the basement when these finally wear out. They are still in great shape so think viable I will get two more seasons out of them.

Me and my dog just finished a hike, and I was wearing these here boots. The forecast didn't show any rain, but the trail got drenched. Other people kept falling in the mud. Me and my dog just trotted on through. The fits of these are so much better than the Moab ones I tried before. Merrell gave me a full refund after those boots made my feet sad. But the Zion ones are amazing. Highly recommend if you are hiking on slippery trails.

I love these boots. Best boots I've owned. This is my 2nd pair of the exact of the Zions. Looks like they are changing models. I think I'm gonna buy another pair, just incase. We just went on a 28 mile 2.5 day hike at Eagle Rock Loop in Arkansas. 73 water crossings. I did get water in my boot, so not completely water proof. But still love them.

I bought these for spring / summer work boots. I was hesitant because the last Merrill boots I bought were really wide. But these fit perfect! I wear a size 14, and typically size 14s are really wide fot my feet, these are perfect. I've been wearing them everywhere. Very comfortable, good waterproofing, decent breathability. Highly recommend.

After reading the reviews on these and taking into account the smaller than advertised fit POV, I wanted to give them a shot. I'm between a 6.5 and 7, depending on brand, and usually when I select a size 7 they end up feeling a full size larger, depending on brand. So in my case I ordered a size 7 and these fit just slightly smaller than a 7 (which I was hoping for) and am a snug as a bug in a rug with thick socks. I haven't gotten to truly battle test them yet but am optimistic, they do feel very well made and are very comfortable and supportive, but you should plan accordingly on the smaller than advertised size... about a half size difference. Happy trails!

I wear 9.5--10 Women's size in most Merrell boots. Men's size 8 fit perfectly in the Zion Mid. Nice waterproof boot, with removal insole to accommodate custom orthotics. Toe box is not as wide at Merrell Moabs, but OK. The boot has a substantial, grippy bottom sole.

Great hiking shoe. Very comfortable and fit is perfect. I'm a size 12 and bordering on a wide fit and these things fit perfect! And they are actually water proof!

These look great and are as comfortable as a sneaker. They achieve so much traction that i could easily win a tug of war with a Squatch; solely based on the fact that my feet would absolutely not break free from the earth. After being defeated, I would claim his family as my own and continue to live free and wild in the woods. All creatures of the forest would submit to my will because of the awesomeness of these hiking boots and the purest woodland aura that pulsates from these babies.

Bought these after reading a Popular Mechanics article touting them. Those authors knew what they were talking about. Have used them to walk, work, chase cows, and climb rocky escarpments at the the ranch. Pliable, enduring, light, and comfortable. They also allow me to feel the terrain without passing through discomfort; in other words, my steps over rough terrain is more sure-footed. Though my feet get a bit warm when wearing them in Summer, they stay cozy in Winter and other cooler times.

I have a pair of boots and one of the eyelets ripped while tightening the boots. I contacted Merrill with photos and didn't have my receipt. They offered a replacement. Arrived quickly ans I love my new boots. Just in time for our big winter camping and hiking trip. Old style was no longer available. Highly recommend this company.

I love the comfort of this boot. It took no time to break in. After a six mile hike through rocky terrain I did notice the insoles were not up to par, but factory insoles are not meant to be. Swapped out with a pair of Superfeet, and all is good. I abuse shoes with my 225 lbs body and off trail activities. I don't expect to get multiple years use out of these, but I don't care. Comfortable boots are the most important thing in the backcountry.

I used to go on the trail wearing sport shoes, had that mindset that these hiking boot are bulky and will couch my foot. Just got back from 3 days trip driving and hiking few hours everyday. Zion booth is very comfy, gave me stability on the trail I'm very happy with this purchase.

The mid Zion is a great alternative for hiking and hunting off trail when looking for something that's not a stiff leather boot. The Moab was always a great shoe to wear when my feet where too sore to lace up my Crispi or Danner boots, but Moab did not protect me enough in shale and nasty brush. The Zion is perfect in that situation because it's comfortable like the Moab but more protective all around but not heavy.
