I use a pack every day for commuting, and for short hikes on days off. The Ashby's 18 liters of storage has room for an extra layer or light jacket, hat, gloves, glasses, sunblock, snacks and even a water bottle. A bunch of smaller compartments help keep items organized, including a laptop sleeve, key clip and fleece-lined pocket for electronics or shades/goggles.
Loads are easily managed with adjustable shoulder and sternum straps. There is no waist belt, but not really missed with the pack's smaller size. Pack cloth and hardware are well suited to everyday use in harsh environments.
If I had to find a flaw, it would be the lack if a water bladder pocket and hose routing, but this could easily be improvised if needed on an otherwise perfect commuter pack.
Overall very happy with this purchase!

This backpack is the perfect size and shape for skiing or snowboarding. You do not want a thick pack behind you when riding on a chair lift. It is also strap free on the back so it is not possible to snag on the chair lift, which can be dangerous. My old Bass backpack has straps and did get snagged by a chair lift. The material is polyester instead of the usual nylon, which I feel is not as strong as nylon but looks better. The design is simple and practical. I carried cameras, water, phone, and snacks on my ski trip and it worked out perfectly. I chose the blue color because it was on sale, but it turned out to be not very sporty looking. I think the black color would have been better for skiing. Overall this is a quality back pack with simple design, the right size, and impeccable workmanship. I liked it very much as a ski pack.

Great size for a simple small backpack. Will definitely fit water, snacks and layers you need for a day adventure. Surprising sturdy. I do wish there were more interior pockets for organizing small objects.
