Customer Reviews Timberland Mabel Town Tall Mukluk Waterproof Boot

I wanted a boot that was 1. insulated - because it gets very cold in Upper Michigan, 2. waterproof - we get lots of snow, sometimes wet heavy snow, and 3. tall boots - because I am tired of the snow going down inside the top of my boots. These fit with those three requirements. They run about 1/2 size small, like Timberland boots mostly do. I usually wear a 9M in most shoes, except Brooks running shoes, where I size up to 9 1/2. This is the same situation. There were no reviews about these boots, so I took a leap of faith and oredered up. I was glad I did because they fit good at 1/2 size larger. They are a little difficult to get on with the taller shaft, but once on, they have good arch support. These boots have a 14 inch tall shaft, so if you are shorter, these probably are not the boots that you will want. I am 5'09" 165lbs, with a 32inch inseam, and althletic calves. The shaft of this boot is adjustable with laces. this also makes the boot much easier to get on. The insole is removable, so an orthotic can easily be inserted underneath. The sole, in back, looks a little weird, but not enough to send it back. They will require a break in period, as most nubuck leather boots do. The soles seem stable enough for walking, on a packed snow or ice surface. All in all, I would say that if you are tall, want a warm winter boot that looks pretty good, but not run of the mill: this one is about as good as it gets.

I am surprised at other reviews saying this boot runs small. I own several pairs of Timberland boots in other styles but the same size (6), and these are the roomiest pair I have. However, they accommodate thick, warm socks fine, so no complaints. The boots are a bit bulkier than they appear in the picture, but still relatively quite light. I am 5' 1" with average calves, and they don't come up too high on my legs and I can slip them on and off easily without unlacing for everyday wear. Very warm and comfortable. They don't have a whole lot of arch support- not an issue for me, but if you need good support you'll probably want insoles.

The wheat and the black boots do not fit the same... II fell in love with the wheat boots and, based on fit reviews, I ordered a size 9 even though I typically wear an 8.5 in boots. They are gorgeous, lightweight, and cushiony, but the size 9 was too big for me. I think they would fit someone who normally wears a size 9. The heel was very roomy, even with two pairs of socks. So, I ordered an 8.5 and they fit. I also ordered the black pair from the manufacturer in size 8.5 and they were too small. So, in my experience the wheat runs true to size and the black run at least .5 size small.
