I love the style and color! Perfect fit. Use them to run, they are light by a little stiff. Ok for the gym.

I have been on a shoe mission. My very favorite walking/all around shoes are still the Vionic classic walker ... just wish they had better color selection. They have the best motion control AND arch support. Love them. However, I needed something a bit sportier and lighter looking. I bought five shoes all of which I researched including the Brooks Adrenaline. I decided to keep two different pair of New Balance. I love the 860v110 the best even though the 1540 has a bit more motion control and heel support. Both great motion control. The 860v10 is very light so that will be warm weather shoe and 1540 my everyday walking shoes. Love them both. No issues in the heel with the 860v10 that others reported. Highly recommend both these shoes plus the Vionic class walker. Plenty of toe box room although I ordered a 7.5 wide.

I am using this shoe for everyday use. It is a well made shoe, however it has some draw backs. First the laces are a little too short. Second, the heel is not narrow enough for me because I do have a narrow heel. I would prefer a snugger fit in the heel area.

I love this 1540 model and I hope New Balance never stops making them, I own 4 pairs and practically live in them. Unfortunately this one particular pair seems to be slightly defective on the left shoe so I am returning them. I was so disappointed especially since the price has increased by about $10.00 since the last time I bought them. There seems to be a wrinkle across the top of the toe bed. I will reorder another pair and see how they are.

Disappointing such a pricey shoe comes with laces too short to properly lace and tie the shoe.

Finally found a shoe that works for me. Gave it 4 stars because the shoe is little too heavy.

Narrow Review.
At 70% American made, I really wanted to choose these. But, alas, I must agree with the reviewers who indentified the fact (and posted photos proving it) that the tongue is entirely too short. They might be wearable for someone wearing very thin socks who wanted them just for walking and everyday activities. As to fit: The Narrow width is well and truly narrow. Without my partial orthotics, they felt great on my feet. (I wear 6.5-7 Narrow and ordered 7 Narrow.) Becasue of my partial orthotics and could not make the shoes work since the tongue was too short. Returned with regret.

I have worn 1540s for years, but the new laces are awful! They are too short and feel more like plastic. Can't rate them as a 5 for this reason. When you pay this much money for a pair of shoes, they should come with quality laces.

only negative is I wish they still made this shoe as it former 1540 in the white and purple color scheme. I need white shoes for work.

Not comfortable. Have gone back to my original pair. Ordered new insoles for the old pair, hope the insoles bring the old pair back to life. The new shoes don't have enough padding in the heel cup.

I have overpronated high arch arthritic flat feet and finding shoes is a challenge. I was super happy that I I found this shoe in the 4E and I got the polaris trim. For short walks it was so comfortable but long walks rubbed the top of my big toe below the nail. I also ordered the dark grey color. Same size but there is more padding in the tongue of the shoe, the tongue is longer and fits easier under the laces, and the shoe although the same size, it is slightly wider in the toe box. It is more comfortable than the polaris color. Sadly I am returning the Polaris and keeping the grey.

This shoe is cute and the 2E is wide enough for my bunions. My orthotics fit in here, too. Unfortunately I'm returning because the tongue of the shoe is too short. It's the same on both shoes, so I don't think it's a flaw, it's just the way the shoe is made. Since the tongue is so short, the lace rubbing against the top of my foot felt uncomfortable.

I got both the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 20 and the New Balance 1540v3. My foot is narrow and has little to no arch and I usually wear Aetrex orthotics in my shoes. Both the Brooks and the NB came in a narrow width, but while the Brooks felt light and flexible the NB was stiff, quite heavy, and didn’t hold my heel snugly. I might have been able to get the heel snugged in with a lace lock but the laces were too short to manage that. Both shoes surprised me by seeming to control my over pronation without an orthotic, but I’m returning the NB and keeping the Brooks Adrenaline. I’m in love with its relatively light weight, flexibility, and great fit on my hard-to-fit feet.

As usual, this shoe is awesome - great fit, roll bar etc. However the laces were entirely too short! I've never had this problem In the 20 or so years that I've been purchasing New Balance workout shoes and I couldn't believe it when that became an issue this time around. They couldn't lace through the holes and also tie up too. It's the only reason that this gets 4 instead of 5 stars.

I wear this shoe and other NB shoes every day. I do a lot of walking and this shoe is perfect for motion control. I do have a request about this shoe for the future. It would be great if there was a greater color selection.

I've worn the 1540, the 1540v2, and now the 1540v3. They are the only shoes I can wear that give me the support I need, so I am limited and have to wear whatever is available. I miss the original 1540 and tried to buy it from other retailers for as long as I could, but haven't been able to find it anymore. So, I have settled for the 1540v2, which was horrible, but it was all I had. The 1540v3 is much better so far, but I've only been wearing them a week. REALLY wish the 1540 had stayed as the original!

These shoes were beautiful and the fit for my width was exact, but they were so heavy. As a senior, I found it hard to make these my every day walking shoes.

I am recovering from knee replacement surgery and needed a shoe for physical therapy sessions. This shoe is very heavy making it uncomfortable to wear for long periods of time or long periods of activity. The New Balance Fresh Foam X More v4 in a larger size and width than I normally wear was a better choice

Am disappointed that I now have to buy wide.... 1540V3 not made in US ... toe bed in not as wide as 1540V2.... therefore had to buy wide. Unfortunately, the shoe over time will stretch and then wide will be too big. Never wore a wide in my life. Quality is not as good as the 1540V2. I kept because I need the support... pronation. flat feet. Am wondering how the 1540 V4 will be like when it comes out... Wish New Balance was made in US. I never had problems when manufactured in US.
