I really liked these sneakers. They looked good, comfortable, good support. But if you lace them to the last hole, the laces touch your ankle. The tongue is too short. You can see it in the photo. On the left is NB940 and on the right is 1540. Both are laced to the last hole. The 940 has almost 1/2" of tongue after the laces and on the 1540 it ends right where the laces are. Once you start walking or running those laces will start to rub on your skin. Too bad. Sent these back.

This shoe is considerably cheaper-made than the V2. I still have my V2s. The tongue on the V3 is a whole inch narrower, which results in an uncomfortable ridge going right over a bone on the top of my foot. The shoe laces are only 46" as opposed to the 52" standard on the V2. The depth of the shoe is also not as deep. V2s are a whole 1/4 inch deeper, which is much better for the arch supports I have to insert. Overall, the V2 just has more shoe. New Balance clearly looked for ways to cut costs, by trimming down the dimensions, and is charging more. I want a shoe with the old specs.

With arthritis in my feet, these shoes provide the stability to minimize the movement of the bones in my feet that hurt with movement. This reduction of pain has made it possible for me to be more active, for a longer time. I've had them for a couple of weeks now and am excited to put them on in the morning and won't take them off until I am ready to sleep. My feet have gone from a consistent pain level of 5 - 7 to a sporadic pain level of 2. There are some things that shoes can't fix, but I'm not hobbling by the end of the day now that I am wearing these shoes. Since this is the only change I've made, I have to say a resounding thank you to these shoes.

My feet are severely over-pronated and I have full, soft custom-made orthotics. This is one of the few shoes that I can wear comfortably -- replacing the factory foot pad with my own orthotic. There's plenty of room in the toe, and the laces come all the way to my ankle. While I can't wear them for hiking or yard work, because they don't support my ankles adequately, I wear them every day, as well as to the gym. And I'm so happy that they have updated the color schemes. I love the more subtle coloring of the 1540v3; the bright colors of v2 called too much attention to my over-pronated feet.
The ONLY thing I don't like is the shoe lace is too small. Because these shoes allow you to change out the foot pad, I wish they would consider that some people, like me, would use a thicker foot pad. I can't tie the laces tight enough to use every hole. As a result, I have to go buy larger laces, and they're usually plain white, because I can't find them to match the color scheme of the shoe. I wish laces could be offered for sale along with the shoe, so that I can buy the larger size.

Ignore the arch support rating above. I wear a toe to knee leg brace on one leg and a compensating lift in the other shoe so I use my own inserts. I'm always looking for shoes with depth when the insoles are removed to accommodate my brace and these shoes do. Additionally, I need a 4E in a women's size. I've tried the men's but the shoe hits me in the wrong spot at a point where I have a bunion. This shoe fits perfectly. No rubbing. Comfortable from the first wearing. So glad this model is carried in a 4E width for women. Highly recommend!

I purchased this shoe as a replacement to the 1540v2 shoe. The fit and style are similar and a good quality. However I spent $185 including shipping and they sent me a shoe where I cannot tie the laces. The laces are not long enough to even put a single half tie on it. When I phoned customer service, they told me they do not sell shoelaces but that they would give me a discount on some shoelaces through Amazon. Ridiculous. Returning as this is a basic flaw if you can’t tie the shoe. Quit cheapening it down New Balance! Give your customers quality. Apparently no one tried on the shoe?

loved this size/brand for walking in the past (last shoes were over 2 years old. Ordered new (duplicate size/brand) in April 2020 and in 2 months the mesh on both fronts developed a hole, and mesh pulling apart on right side. For the cost, I expect good walking shoes to last 1-2 years, and then usually the support breaks down.

I've been wearing NB running shoes for years now after having plantar fasciitis in both feet. I particularly like them because they are made from a women's last instead of scaled down men's last. They wear like iron. I only wish the AA came in more colors==wearing a narrower shoe reduces options for color choices. I need the AA to keep my heel in the shoes.

Right after a bunion surgery this was the only shoe I could wear that didn’t make my foot sore. They are super comfortable and with my SOLE inserts, I walked in them for days while on a trip abroad without having pain in my feet. I probably pushed these shoes and my feet more than the doctor recommended, but they stood up to the challenge. I can’t recommend these enough. They are a little bulky for my liking but I find myself choosing them over other shoes on a daily basis just because they are so comfortable.

These shoes are very comfortable and supportive, however after 1 month I noticed a small hole happening in the toe box. I don't know if this is a one off problem or not.

I would probably keep these shoes except for the fact that new balance did not include shoelaces that are long enough to tie the shoes. What were they thinking?

I have worn this style sneaker for years. It's the only one that I can wear as I have high arches and neuropathy My only wish is that they could come in more colors. I have the gray and silver and purple blue. Anyone with problem feet should buy these as medicine for their feet

If you do not mind a really hard sole shoe, then I guess this would be the shoe for you. I did not like them. I tried on 4 different sizes as I wear orthotics and it is like trying to find a needle in a haystack with shoe sizes when you wear orthotics. I finally found one that fit but it was the same old story, hard as nails on the bottom of the foot. I don't understand why New Balance shoes with the roll bar technology are so uncomfortable but I think I will stick to Brooks if they ever get my size back! Too bad, New Balance use to be my go to shoe, no longer. I might add, they are ridiculously over priced.

Falling apart after only one month. Started with the shoelaces failing, and then the toe box on the right foot. For the cost of the shoe and the fact it was made in the USA, I am very hurt and upset. At least when shoes were made overseas they lasted 12 months before wearing out!! Don't buy.

I have very wide feet... well foot. Just one of them is wide so it makes buying shoes very hard. These are fantastic. They fit both feet very well and are so comfortable. I've been wearing them every day since I received them about 2 weeks ago (no issues).

New Balance has lost it in an effort to sell low-quality shoes. These running shoes have a very stiff sole and very soft upper with no support. The shoe slaps the treadmill hard as a result - no solution. Done with New Balance. I tried many models - none any good as the old New Balance running shoes.

I was born with feet that turned inward and have developed severe arthritis over the years, making over pronation a bad problem. These New Balance 1540s are the only shoes that fit comfortably, have room for my orthotics and accommodate my leg brace. I've worn all the versions and v3 foes not disappoint. They are kind of stylish too, much better than orthopedic shoes. I hope NB never stops making them and as always, Zappos service is unparalleled.

I like these shoes. I have arthritis in both my big toe joints as well as a bunion. I ordered them in a 10 EE and they fit ok but didn't feel 100%. They are kind of hard on the soles of the feet. So I returned that size and am ordering a half a size bigger because my podiatrist told me to try them this way so that I could add a layer of cushioning in them. I feel that they would be good walking shoes. I have always worn Brooks Addiction walker to walk in however they have replaced their shoe with an even uglier style! So I am on the hunt for another walking shoe. Stay tuned, I'll be back with another review when Zappos delivers again! By the way, Zappos is the best online company ever. I'd be in a lot of pain if it wasn't for them!!!!

I wore the 990s for years and years (decades?). However, the recent version made it impossible for me to wear them. I found these 1540s with the help of NB customer service. They meet my needs for a shoe that provides stability with some cushion; wide toe box; and low profile so that the sides do not keep hitting my ankle, which happens with several of the new NB shoe versions (including the 990s). The negatives: very short shoelaces (NB really should send 1540 owners new, longer shoelaces; limited color options.

I paid $170 for these shoes and I’ve worn them for 3 months….only at my office…not to the gym or to work out. The right show has a hole in it and the left is starting to tear.

This shoe is amazing. By far it is one of the sturdiest New Balance shoes I have worn. It reminds me of the New Balance walkers I used to wear. I need the extra support due to having had a broken ankle several years ago. New Balance will always be my shoe of choice since they come in the narrow width I need and the support I crave.

I use these for walking- mostly on my treadmill. I have the same sneakers for outside walking as well. This is my 3rd pair. Roomy enough toe box for even a bunion. Only complaint is that the shoe laces are too short. I like them on the looser side which leaves little extra lace.
