The pack isn't perfect, but I still think it deserves 5 stars despite it's shortcomings. The Anti gravity sytem and air speed back are game changers. The built in rain cover is a nice touch too. However I do wish the storage was a little better. Some sort of divider in the main pocket would have been nice, I'm basically forced to just thrown everything in there and dig through it to find what I need. There is also no built in storage for an ice axe so I had to get creative. Making the pack modular with little clip points for extra Bungies and straps might be a good idea. Still I'd rather run an AG pack than one of their alpine packs. I used my Mutant 22 on our last trip because of the better axe storage, but it also put too much weight on my shoulders and found it much less comfortable.

Awesome pack for long, dry hikes in the desert where you need to carry a heavy water load. The awesome suspension keeps my back ventilated like no other day pack while the armature and hip belt helps carry the extra weight as well as a backpacking pack. This pack has accompanied me all over the American southwest, Grand Canyon, sierras, canadian rockies as well as my home turf Laurentians and I still use it year round when I need to carry more than my Talon 11 would accommodate.

I finally found a pack that fits, and the hydration design is very functional, well thought out. This is a high quality pack, worth the cost. The trampoline is EPIC, that alone is a selling point for me. I fits onto my back correctly with the weight distributed better than my other packs. I have used 4-5 other packs over the years and the Manta 24 is by far the best! The hip belt is comfortable. The shoulder straps are well padded. The magnetic chest strap is a nice touch. By the way, my wife loves her Mira 22.

Bought this great pack a while ago and haven't had an issue with anything! Really impressed (as always) with the quality and attention to detail. The magnetic sternum clip that supports the built in hydro pack mouthpiece is a nice touch and becomes second nature to use on the trail.

Great pack, first use was a high 80 degree day and a 22 mile hike around Lake Geneva, WI. Strap design, placement and adjustment made for a very comfortable hike. The trampoline style back kept the pack off my back and allowed good airflow. The included reservoir help plenty of water to keep me hydrated.
It has a fair amount of storage even with the Reservoir full.
I did find some of the pocket access a bit awkward but nothing to annoying.
That being said, I definitely recommend this pack.

Great:
Love the hydration system easy in/out. Easily connect different size bladders without changing the hose/byte valve. Rain cover is awesome. Storage is awesome. The pack itself is surprisingly light. The mesh separator and frame make 20-30 lb load feel light. The byte valve hose magnet is great. The harness loops will easily fit a smartphone belt hook holster.
Not so great:
I got the color blue and it gets dirty pretty easily. The front pockets are difficult to open and too small.

First off, this is a great, well thought out pack that is close to perfect! The adjustability of the harness insure the best possible fit regardless of the users shape and size. The way the anti gravity suspension system fits on your back, I could actually feel a cool breeze between my back and the pack as I climbed up a steep hill. This was wonderful and a great way to disperse the back sweat! I was also very impressed that it came with a rain fly, which almost no one provides with a pack!
The few things I would change, are small things that would make it perfect and warrant the high price tag for a hydration pack and I feel the price is high!
I am not a fan of the side entry to the outer pocket. For whatever reason they decided the smaller size (most likely to be chosen for a day hike) gets the side entry pocket, while the larger capacity one gets the more traditional rainbow type zipper entry. I could probably get use to the pocket entry, if within it, in was more compartpinalised. Everything seems to flop around in the one large opening.
I love the idea of the magnet on the bite piece for the hydration bladder, but the magnet used just isn't good enough. They should have used a rare earth magnet or something of similar quality.
Osprey packs aren't the lightest minimalist daypacks, but they are solid packs with the best warranty out there. With that being said, If you're not going to make it super light, why not add a little more padding to the waist belt.
The waist belt pockets still need to be push forward more, so you don't feel like you're at the Chiropractor when you twist to close it with two hands!

Already on sale?? This is a well designed, well executed DayPack with nice features. It's suspension is adjustable for best comfort for a range of body types. The mesh back panel allows air circulation which is wonderful on hot days. The hydration system needs tweaking because part of the water tube is permanately attached to the bag & can't be cleaned. This means liquid stays in the tube & presents a nice culture medium for fermenting bacteria. Recommend with reservations.

I don't consider myself exceptionally big (6'3, 225lbs), but I do know I am on the larger size of things. The fact that I can't adjust the torso length on this bag -- or order based on size -- is super disappointing. Based on the size-guide, I thought this pack would work, but it doesn't. It is super uncomfortable and feels like I constantly need to readjust it -- but I CAN'T.

I like the look and feel of this bag but it falls down in 2 areas that are disappointing and already have me looking for a replacement or fixes for it.
First the thin, junky, waist belt. Your hips/waist are suppose to support a majority of the weight of a backpack. On long treks, this is ultra important. Unfortunately, osprey designers decided to go the cheap route and used ultra thin web cord for the waist belt design, which means it cuts into your waist and hurts after a while. The side belt pockets are awesome, as is the side bottle holders (which is why I primarily bought the bag) as I don't always like to fill a camelback water pack for a short trek. But the waist belt should be at least an inch to 2 inches wide on a bag of this size and caliber. Cheap cheap cheap and poor design overall. I may take it to an outdoor gear place to see if they can make a wider belt for my waist
The second cheap design is the carrying handle. A minor topic of course, but it's also a tiny thin little strip of fabrics that feels like it will rip out of the seams with very little effort. I want a carry handle that feels beefy and that I can hang the bag from fully loaded and know it will never break or rip.

I have hiked 60 miles with this pack the last 5 days (14 miles being the longest). The best feature on this pack is the suspened back panel keeping it away from your back and providing great venelation. Osprey needs more of this style pack. The worst feature is the overall weight and size. This pack needs to be about an 16 to 18 liter with the same susupension and hip belt. If it could be slimmed down 1 pound, it would be the best full or half day hikng pack ever constructed. It has plenty of ways to attach gear, and is narrow in width for tight spots, but when hiking at higher altitudes weight counts. I cut my body weight and gear list to cut weight and they could cut some weight from this pack as well.

Ill start by saying there is nothing wrong with the current pack, except it is too large compared to the old one. I have the older model and it is the perfect pack. I use it primarily for bikepacking. It is small enough to feel secure on rough singletrack and big enough to carry part of my gear on week long trips. None of the other bike specific packs have the built in mesh frame and hip pockets. I wore this one out so my wife bought me the current pack.... and its way to big to use on a bike. Its more like a small backpacking pack. Its a great pack but not for my uses. Now there is no pack in the osprey lineup that fills the void.

I have the original Manta 28 which has been my go to pack for every day hike, long biking trip, big ski days, and carting all the family stuff everywhere we go for about the last 5 years. It's getting pretty old and wearing out after a great service life and several repairs so I joyfully skipped down to my local osprey store to take advantage of their legendary warranty. Only to be confronted with the bloated redesigned version
Here are my big 3 complaints:
This is now a huge, long, wide framed pack, unlike the svelte form of the old manta. Formerly I could use this pack for mountain biking with only the bladder and a jacket and it would sinch down into a tidy form hugging package. Now it just feels huge, despite having 4l less capacity.
I wore it in the store for 20 minutes ( properly fit, with 15lbs in it) after only 5 minutes I had painful hot spots on my shoulder blades where the back length adjusters have small sharp bumps in them from the webbing attachments. The old manta is the most comfortable pack I've ever worn, even after 10 sweaty hours on the bike with a heavy load and a thin t shirt it never gave me any trouble.
The padding on the hip belts is far too short, the padding ends and has thick bumps from webbing exactly on the sharp points of my hips, right where the padding is needed the most.
I've tried almost everything in osprey's range now and nothing comes close to the Swiss Army knife versatility and comfort of the old manta. I'll keep using my faded, patched, torn and repaired manta until it no longer stays on my back, hopefully by then there will be a worthy replacement in the osprey ecosystem.
Rant over.
