Although this is a men's pack( i didn't know when I bought) I, a 120lb 64 year old female, love it. It fits perfectly and feels like an extension of my body. Great pack alround. Only complaint side pockets zip down to close not up.

Used this product for an 8 hours hike in New Hampshire the next week after recieving it. Started early with some heavy fog and occasional rain. I do not have the rain cover for it but it kept everything inside dry including my freinds camera. Besides the sweat, it was a super comfortable pack. I had this pack filled to the brim, and I barely knew it was on my back. It was the most comfortable and usable pack I have owned. 10/10 would reccomend for anybody who likes taking day hikes. The bladder was also great, the magnetized hose came off a couple times from me moving my arms a certain way to climb, but besides that, it worked perfectly. In short, I would buy this pack again, and I plan on using it as my main day pack from now on. Buy this if you need a good 30l pack, you will not regret it for sure! Happy trails!

It's a fantastic pack. I'd reccomend it for anyone who likes to have a little extra space if they need it for those long or short day trips.

I was looking for a new back pack for fly fishing. Needed something streamlined, with lots of pockets. And it had to be light weight, fit tight but comfortably on the back, for wading rocky streams . Fly fishing outfitters offer their specialized packs. But they're often expensive, over-worked, and not-so functional. Came across the Osprey Skarab 30. It seems Osprey created a great little pack for fly fishing, without really meaning to. Here's how it packs: Right hip-belt pocket - two small fly boxes, dry's and nymphs/terrestrials Left hip-belt pocket - nippers, small forceps, floatant, indicator putty, sink putty Right panel pocket - three spools of tippet and spare leaders Left panel pocket - maps and compass Top pocket - head lamp, wallet, keys, cell phone, granola bars Interior top pocket - essential first aid kit Interior cargo pocket - wading jacket, fleece, gloves, knit hat, dry socks, dry base layer (in a water-proof trash bag) Back stash pocket - bottle of Gatorade, GPS, (maybe a net if you think you need it) And just enough lash points for waders and boots. Yes, it comes with a hydration bladder too. But I ditched that. My only complaint is the color; their best is "deep blue". Wish they offered it in olive, grey, or tan.

Love Osprey, and had been looking for a lighter pack with large side pockets. Voila - the Skarab 30.

I got this pack for day hikes climbing in the Adirondack high peaks. It works great for that. Not really suitable for multi day trips, but that doesn't seem to be it's intended use. It's very comfortable and has a great balance between space for day hiking gear and small size so you don't notice the weight of what you're carrying. The hydration hose has a magnet that keeps it attached to the chest strap and close to your face while still being out of the way. I really like that part. The only issue I've noticed, and it isn't much of one, is that it can be a little annoying getting into some of the pockets because there are so many zippers, straps etc. in a small space. Not a deal breaker though. I'm very happy with the pack and plan on using it for a long time.

Love this backpack. It's fit me perfectly and when I have it on I never feel the weight of the gear in it which is a huge plus for long day hikes. Here is the one but....and this is in the other reviews too....the side pockets zip top down. It may not seem like much, but it's a struggle trying to get gear out like a water bottle when on the trail. If they zipped bottom up items would be more accessible and secure. Osprey if you are listening, this is an easy fix....just flip the zipper and make it a bottom up zip. Then this backpack would be lights out awesome.

The hydration system works well, although it would be better if the tube could separate where it come out of the bag (like on the more expensive bags). However, the small strap holding the hyration bag in place is way too short and is very difficult to connect when the hyrtion bag is full. Size of the bag is good. If you hike in humid areas, you will want the upgraded backpack (like the Manta) which has ventialtion bewteen the backpack and your back,

Love the pack. Lots of room in case you need it. Lightweight. It may seem trivial, but the magnetic mouthpiece that attaches to the sternum strap is brilliant - I hate it when it flops around while hiking. BAD: while you have the pack on, when storing anything in either the right or left zipper side pockets, unzipping them is fine, but if you want to zipper it back up, you have to either take the pack off or have a friend do it for you. WHY? Because the zippers zip from top -down and the way the pocket curves makes it impossible to zip them shut with one hand. I love the access, but if you can't zip it up without taking the pack off is not good. Even if it were meant for water bottles, you still want the zipper to zip closed from the bottom up! What were the designers thinking on that one?!? The included 2.5L reservoir is nice, but with the 2 baffles on the inside make them virtually impossible to clean an dry. Bad design.

This pack is nearly perfection for me. Nearly. Love that it swallows everything up and asks for more. Love the straps, quit comfortable. The ONE issue that makes it almost NOT USABLE and UN-RECOMMENDABLE are the left and right side pockets. You CANNOT store any normal water bottle in the side pockets. Terrible design flaw. I weep because of how close this bag is to perfection. =(

I like everything about it EXCEPT that the outside, side zipper pockets(1on each side) zip from the bottom up, thus allowing somethings to fall out when opening pocket or if you have something in it that is taller than the pocket. It's like having an upside down pocket. (on the women's Skimmer they zip from the top down, much more versatile) I use these side pockets a lot for various items I hope you reverse the zip direction of zippers
