I adore these boots, but had to size up to get a good fit. I am a true 7.5- not a half size person who sizes down in some styles and up in others. Every pair of shoes I have ever owned has reliably been a 7.5, until now. The first pair I ordered was uncomfortably tight, with a surprisingly narrow toe box. My fourth and fifth digits were completely curled under, and I had no room at all between my big toe and the end of the boot. I reordered in an 8 and now the fit is perfect. They're wearable right out of the box, but definitely require a little breaking in. I can already feel them conforming to my feet though and expect them to wear like customs in no time. If you have concerns about the width of the shoe, as some previous reviews have mentioned, consider ordering up by a half size. It may remedy the issue for you, if you don't have particularly wide feet. Beautiful craftsmanship and quality. I appreciate fashion, but I live and work outdoors in a very rugged wilderness area. I wear my boots hard and put them through their paces. I was skeptical of the Heritage line, fearing the quality would not compare to Red Wing's work boot standard. Thus far, I'm confident this purchase was a worthwhile gamble. They look and feel as though they are built to last. It's so challenging to find well made womens' boots that manage to be both lovely and practical. This pair seems to strike the balance perfectly. Highly recommended for hard working women who want their boots to be as beautiful as they are durable.

This leather is what dreams are made of! You can’t tell in pictures, but when it bends/ creases, it breaks to a gorgeous copper color, giving rich depth to the leather. (If you don’t care for that “antique” look, the iron ranger comes in an Amber Harness leather that is a homogeneous brown that doesn’t change color as it bends.) Love Love Love this boot, but with they hadn’t “feminined” the toe shape. It crowds my 4th, 5th, and “6th” toe bone. Maybe not so much that I couldn’t make it work, but haven’t decided if I want to bother.

Great brand. Felt like a quality boot (leather, construction, even packaging). Slightly taller (a true mid-calf boot) than a standard 6" boot which created a weird silhouette for me as I have very slim ankles and athletic calves. Its a slim fitting boot (not as bulky as a combat or a biker boot), which was a bit of a problem as well as I have flat feet and worried about long-term support. However, if you have more of a slim leg that doesn't vary too much in width, I think this would be a great looking boot for you and worth the price.

I was so excited to see that Red Wing made these for women now. My old pair is a men's boot in which they stopped making the smaller sizes. I think this is the best quality work boot available on the market. I own a farm and I'm on my feet most of the day. Thank you Red Wing and thank you Zappos !!

Overall I love these boots. They seem like the perfect elegant black boot without too much heel. I wanted a top-quality pair of boots I can have resoled when they wear out. They are quite heavy, which I personally like, and feel substantial. I've had them for about three months and I feel like I'm still breaking them in a bit, though it's winter and I've been wearing them only on mostly dry days. These boots have no insulation at all, so they're not a winter boot. I feel like they're longer but narrower than the other 8 1/2 boots that I have, and at first was thinking of sizing down but just decided to go with it (I'm not sorry). I also tried on the Iron Rangers but the lower tops hit me right in the bony part of my ankle and I felt like it would be a problem. I have one bunion and the narrow forefoot area does not accommodate it well, but they're starting to stretch out and conform to my foot - I love them enough to tough it out. The footbed is not cushy, but is still comfortable to walk on.

Initially I bought these a half size up, as I thought I would need a little extra room for thick socks. Even with my wide feet, I didn't need it--they are true to size but still have a little wiggle room for thicker socks if you need it. SO comfortable and a very high quality leather that will age well. I know these will last for years to come and I'm so happy I shelled out the extra money for them. I initially bought Frye Veronicas but found these to be more comfortable and of superior quality. Plus the hook eyelets on the upper part of the shaft make them easier to lace up than the Fryes, which are set eyelets all the way up.

As a beekeeper on a cattle ranch in Central Texas, I am on my feet all day and like to change boots every day. The boots from Chippewa (snake boots), Muck Boot (ladies tall muddy), and Merrill (hiking) are all size 9. I utilized the Zappos fit sizing application which suggested ordering 9's from Red Wing. The $350+ boots are tight and short...impossible to wear for 10 minutes compared to 12 hours. This is a real problem for me... what is the next best action? Order 9.5 and 10 and 10.5?

Shoes def look better in person each one is a different color but would eventually get dark. I had 2 sizes ordered and love the bigger size but sure it will be fine as all hides are different and will age nicely. Comfy right out of the box. Zappos customer service is awesome and did a quick refund so I can compare size without charging my card as long as u do it within 14 days. Ty ty for making it easy.

Most painful shoes ever! I’ve had them almost a year now and they kill the outside of my feet every time. I’ve tried to break them in and endure it but at the end of the day I can hardly walk and I will take them off in the car on my drive home it’s so bad. They look and fit fine lengthwise. The leather is a nice quality. I feel like they would be comfortable but it’s like the tongue is too wide and gets folded and then digs into the tops and outsides of my foot. I’ve tried it with thin and thick socks but neither provide any relief. Such a bummer since I’ve spent so much money and now I’m stuck with a super nice looking boot that’s like an Iron Maiden on my foot.

These make me look cooler than I am. I will say they are a bit hard at first and hit my ankle as I walk, but it seems like they'll break in nicely.

These are high quality boots, worth the investment. I don't tend to wear my combat-style boots so that you can see the whole ankle - I wear straight cut or boot cut jeans over them. They look awesome in this setup. But... I imagine that for those who love to rock the combat look with a skirt will love them too. :-)

Fantastic boot! A little sleeker than most combat style boots, and wow, so comfortable. (I returned because the height for me wasn't comfortable but that's not the fault of the boots.) If you dig this style of boot, it's worth the dinero!

The Silversmith style Redwing boot has a very narrow toe box. The rest of the boot fits wonderfully . . . but even for a narrow foot, like mine, it was way too narrow. I knew that if I wore them - I'd want to take them off in just a few hours because my toes would feel cramped.

Really expensive and really nice. Exactly what I wanted. Handmade in the USA. I don’t mind paying for quality.

I usually wear a 9 to 9.5. I went with a 9.5 to start and was too big so I exchanged for the 9, and it fits like a glove with a thick wool sock. Comfortable out of the box. Great quality. Looking forward to breaking these in.

The fit is exactly what I was going for. I have a pair of these in the brown color a half size smaller. Those fit great with thin socks in the summer. I wanted a pair that I could wear with thicker wool socks in the cooler seasons of Montana. These fit great with thicker socks.

I am 5'3 and 90 lbs and I am usually a size 6.5-7 in shoes. I was just under a 6.5 in measurement so went for the size 7 so I could fit socks. The size 7 fits perfectly! The first couple of days I wore them they hurt like crazy and were ultra stiff. Today is day 3 and they are already way more comfortable. I am also planning to condition them to soften the leather further. They look great are super supportive and have them most amazing quality of any shoe I ever put on. So glad I bought these.

The leather is good quality. I wore these boots right out of the box for a day of motorcycle riding and a moderate amount of walking . They were stiff, which is to be expected, but otherwise comfortable. They are a bit wide and slippy in the heel for me.

I am between a 7.5 and 8, and I first ordered the 8 which was way to long. The 7.5 still gives me plenty of toe room. I will say that these take a break in process, but they look awesome and feeling better every day.

Beautiful boots, but narrow. I ordered my true to size 6.5. The length is true but I couldn’t quite get my feet to sit right inside the boot due to the narrowness, my foot should have gone further in. Got a blister on my heel. Did not want to size up, they would have been too long for me. So hoped for the best and took boots to a boot repair shop to see if they could be stretched. The leather is thick, and tough but not rigid. Success, they are perfect now, the leather stretched enough so my feet now go all the way in, my heel doesn’t rub. Very glad I did not size up, or return them. Bit of extra work but worth it, for these are extra special boots, that will get better with age and last a lifetime.

Oh how I wanted to keep these boots! The leather is beautiful, the footbed feels comfortable and they are up to par with other Red Wings I own. I ordered a size up based on previous reviews and they were too big. Unfortunately my normal size is out of stock so I can’t do an exchange :/ If you’re concerned about a narrow fit, you can take these bad boys to a shoe repair shop or cobbler and they can stretch them out to fit a little better.

The Red Wing Heritage in Silversmith is a beautiful, well-made boot. In this laced-up style and at this price-point, Red Wing’s version appears a cut above from stitching to heel shape and gentle roundness of toe. Unfortunately, the leather feels too rigid and unforgiving for comfort and long-term wear.

DO NOT listen to reviews that tell you to size a full size larger. I unfortunately did so and am stuck with boots that are far too large for me without wearing 2-3 pairs of medium thick socks.
