I am disappointed. This version is simply uncomfortable. The shoe narrows into the front too much and crams the toes. It also feels like they are cheaping out on the materials. I can see the liklihood of a toe wearing thru the mesh quickly as the leather portion of the toe cap is narrow and stops right at where toenails lift up in stride. Seems like new balance has changed for the worse. I wore 574 and 900 series made in usa for the last 15 years at least. The 574 has become cheaply made and uncomfortable and now the 990 seems to be following suit.

I got to help with sore feet at work, but didn't seem to help. Quality isn't as good as what I hoped for since say made in USA.

The toe box is pointy like a women's shoe and it pinched my toes together. The toe box is too narrow.

The US 990v5 looked good, felt great, but the toe box was slightly too tight side-to-side and top to bottom. I did not feel that it would be comfortable walking in the Florida heat. Most 2E shoes would have fit. I have sent them back. When I receive my credit, I am going to order a X-Wide, which is a first for me.

I use this product to walk. It's great because I can walk in them.

I have purchased New Balance shoes for years as I have a narrow foot (N) and it's hard to find my size. Fit has never been an issue until now. The New Balance 990v5 is wider than my last pair 990v3. I would have bought the old version had it been available.

Much more narrow than my 847s 4e. Not a good fit in the toe box.

I'm disappointed they changed this shoe. I ordered a pair last November and was pleasantly surprised to find that I could wear this shoe without an insert due to the excellent arch support. Just reordered the exact same shoe and it feels like there's zero arch support. My foot feels like it's collapsing inwards with each step. Is the shape of my foot so rare that no one makes a shoe for it? I need a very wide shoe with high arch support if anyone has recommendations. In the meantime I guess I'll spend sixty bucks on inserts to make the shoe wearable.

I love the sneakers but the tongue of the shoes is too small. It slides from one side to the other and is most annoying.

Color faded spot on tongue of shoe. Squeezing of air sound coming from shoes when i walk. Squeaking sounds from outter sole of shoe when walking on different surfaces. For this kind of money , i expect perfection! Or at least slam dunk capabilities and running the 40 in 4.3!

size was good, but the toe box was too low. Width was correct, but it wasn't nearly tall enough, so my toes were smashed anyway. These shoes would fit properly if New Balance made a proper depth toe box.

I had the previous model, worked great. I bought this model expecting the same. After having the shoes for about 7 months, which is actually a great amount of time, but for a shoe this price is bad, the toe box detached from the sole of the shoes and the foam seemingly disintegrated. It was wack, didn't really understand how it happened. Not one star because the shoe is comfortable and lasted more than 6 months. Barely made the cut g.

Not at all what I was expecting. Literally felt like I was walking on cardboard. I'm a nurse and that requires me to be on my feet for a majority of the day so I need something comfortable which this shoe is not. I've bought this brand for years and I can say this was the first time I've been disappointed with a purchase.

Ordered these online in the same size in which I bought some 993s about a year ago (13 wide). The 993s fit; these are too big and they hurt my left ankle where the upper hits the ankle. Don't think I can wear them even after trying for several days to break them in :(

I have bought and returned some shoes with NB but these ones run a little tight in the shoe box. I have owned the 1340s to the 1540s and I decided to try this series. I wear a 6E and it is very hard to find shoes wide enough so the sides do not rub against the edges of my feet. I want to avoid getting bunions and I strongly suggest these run a little smaller. This 6E felt like its missing 1/2 inch in width that being said if you do not need width its a nice comfortable shoe in the heel and its well made!

Ankle cut is higher than the v.4. Runs my ankle badly. Not sure why you changed the cut. Used to be the perfect sneaker for my foot. Have started looking for new options. Bring back the v.4. Please.

I ordered these with high hopes as I am 14 AA. The shoes fit great, especially around the heel and in the front part of the foot.... Unfortunately, they are higher than other NB shoes around the ankle bone and dug in as the edge hit just below the ankle bone. I have 860s in 14B that do not do this and fit well other than being a bit too wide and needing two thick socks or thick socks and added insoles. Also while in some markets you can take returns to the NewBalance store, in KC the store does not accept on line returns (like most retailers), and they did not have any shoes in 14AA, so you have to use the return label - it is not hard, just more bother. I am thrilled that NB makes extra narrow shoes in extended lenghts, I just wish there was another model.

Paid three times the price of two other NB pairs I've found elsewhere. My older pairs of MT481 are 10.5 4E and fit well and have almost enough cushion for me. But this 990v5 Core 10.5 4E is too tight and has not enough cushion and does not have enough room to put a cushion for the ball of my foot. But at first these were comfortable for awhile, so I wore them and cannot send them back.

Way too narrow to be a 6E. Not for wide feet at all! The toe box is wide but the middle is not wide. Very disappointing.

I purchased these shoes for two reasons: made in America and on-line views promoting their comfort and support. Comfort and support are imperative for me. I found these shoes to be very uncomfortable when walking in them, almost hard. I walk three+ miles a day, and after walks in these shoes my feet and back hurt and my legs felt fatigued. My last three pair of shoes were Hoke One One, and I have to admit that I became spoiled with their cushion and support. I think going to the NB 990v5 was too drastic a change, which made their discomfort even more pronounced. I hate to dis on a pair of shoes that are made in America, but this particular shoe is not the right shoe for me.
I'd also recommend:

These shoes are horrible, my podiatrist said I should use the shoes because of planter fasciitis, he must be thinking of couple years ago or something. I did and now I have been off my feet for 2 days with swollen feet and I need cortisone shots. The soles are hard as a rock. I bought 11.5 / 4E and they are a half size bigger than my size 12 / New Balance 1080’s.

I have purchased the variants of these over the years and this is the first pair that has the same issue as virtually all of the other shoes I have tried on from New Balance. For whatever reason, the front part of the shoe gets very tight across the top of it. Basically, there's a ton of pressure across the top of my foot right behind the toes. No amount of loosening up the laces helps this. I wear a size 15 shoe. I did try a size 16 a couple of months ago. That didn't have that pressure, but the shoe was too big as my foot kept sliding back and forth in the shoe. It's a sad day when a pair of Converse has more comfort than these shoes do. I don't understand the sacrifice of comfort for style. This is a complete misstep on their part.

Narrower than the V4. I loved this shoe when it was a V4. I would buy 3 pairs at a time. Expensive but a great shoe. Now the remodel with the V5 has made the shoe narrower and the stitching over large toe joint causes pressure to joint in my foot. The heel cup top was also made smaller. Not sure if heel cup is an issue as I had to send my shoes back. To others this may be the most comfortable shoe right out of box. New changes to shoe have caused me to look elsewhere to replace what was once one of the best shoes on the planet for a wide footed man.
