I was torn between the Acrux SL leather GTX and this shoe for a hiking holiday to New Zealand in April.
I wanted a shoe I could wear everyday in and around town but it had to be able to handle difficult terrain if I couldn't access my main heavier hiking boots (Salewa Rapace GTX).
Initially the Acrux leather GTX looked very smart for the town and capable of semi-rough terrain, but I was worried of reviews highlighting it being a tight fit for people with wide feet like myself.
Then the Aerious FL GTX popped up on the website and even-though my holiday is 2 months away I'm very glad I bought this shoe as most of the black shoes are already sold out!
The black Aerious looks just as smart as the Acrux but has a nice aggressive (but subtle to passer-by's) megagrip vibram grip should I catch myself in tricky terrain with no access to my main boots. Even with my wide feet the fit is comfortable and snug. I don't plan on wearing thick hiking socks with these shoes but if you are I would recommend half a size larger (especially if you have wide feet).
In conclusion, these are the kind of shoes you can wear to work, around town and challenging terrain (not requiring ankle support) without the worry of being caught in the rain with soggy shoes.

These are great trail running, light hiking or just an everyday shoe. They look sleek and simple enough to wear wherever. Super lightweight, breathable and have great grips for great traction. I've worn mine on a several mile hike in the desert to everyday work where I am on my feet a lot and havent noticed a difference in comfort or support letting me down.
The first time wearing them they do feel a little stiff, but quickly got them worked in to my feet within a week.
My only complaint would be Arc'teryx sizing chart seems about a size or so off. I measured my foot and it was at least 1.5 sizes off what I normally wear. The first pair I ordered based off their sizing chart was crazy small, so instead went with what I normally wear and it was spot on. So dont look at their sizing chart, just order what you normally wear and you wont be disappointed.

Same light-weight, sturdy, and fabulous fit as my non-Gortex pair. The main problem is the stitch seam in the back of the shoe has no cushioning and is creating blisters on the back of my ankle at the base of the achilles. Arc'teryx needs to redesign these so that there is padding over the stitch seam. There is padding over the seam on the non-Gortex version. I had to add a square bandage over the stitch seam to make these wearable. I'm recommending with this exception.

I wanted some footwear for walking trails in muddy wet conditions but didn't want to get wellingtons so opted for these. Very comfortable, excellent grip and no sign of water getting in. I tend to re-proof every couple of weeks. Had these for 3 months now and happy so far.

I am always size 11, on 95% of shoes I fit just fine. These were fairly narrow, the fit might be more like an approach shoe. The fabric seems to look worn very quickly as they looked a year old after only a month. They have held together ok so far after 4 months but after reading other reviews am concerned they might fall apart after a year or so. They do look cool, nice simple look is what I was after for everyday use and short hikes.

These are comfortable on my foot (medium: not narrow, not wide), however, they do seem to run on the narrowish side just above the toe box, but not too constricting. Once I've dialed in the string tightness, all good.
Outer soles are grippy on varied terrain both dry and damp. Good underfoot grip going downhill on loose dirt/gravel terrain. Felt sure-footed. They also feel flexible enough, but with enough firmness for energy return and stability.
Crossing streams during a 3 or 4 mile hike in moderate temps wearing merino wool socks, the insides were a bit damp - I couldn't tell if there was water intrusion or sweaty feet. I guess more outings are warranted to know, but thought to mention it nonetheless. I think it was the latter, but not sure.
Strange, but after a couple hour trek on sand dunes, while cleaning up the shoes, shaking the shoes I can hear sand jiggling inside of the tops of the shoes in the lace area. It appears that the sand is lodged inside between the outer and inner layers! I can't shake it out. Surprising b/c I thought these are waterproof - how sand, let alone water seep in between these layers? Very weird.
I wished I'd gotten the mid-tops.

Good pair of shoes, found it had good traction and great weather protection during my hikes in the rain. The sides of the shoe where the fabric meets the cushion felt wet/cold eventhough it wasn't so I would recommend maybe wearing thicker socks. But other than that really comfortable, never felt like I had to break them in or anything.

Picked up a pair of these as an alternative for walking to the Norvan LD's (on my 4th pair of those). They are really more beefed up and stiffer. Feel really nice protected in them when on less prepped ground. And really waterproofness is a big pro for where I live. I have now even got specific prothetics (is this correct English?) for them and they are doing their part in taking care of my feet. So, in the end, a good waterproof hiker, as good as can be expected. (BTW I have not experienced the lacing troubles other mention)

Been looking for a nice lightweight waterproof shoe for rainy days or to bring along while travelling. These seem to fit the bill pretty nicely so far. Fairly lightweight, nice construction, breathable and waterproof. Got the black ones so not too flashy but still a bit of style to them.

Shoes were comfortable to walk around in, but the Gore-Tex lining keeps in too much sweat.

The fabric is extremely light and thin, which might be a good thing for some, and having GoreTex is nice. The sole feels soft with a slightly foamy feel. It does not give much side or top structural support so it's almost like a thin basic trail runner or trainer. A couple things I don't like are the shoelaces on these models always come undone no matter how tight I tie them. It seems the shoelace material is slightly stretchy and the whole shoe seems to lightly loosen over time and find myself re-tying them to snug up the shoe. The fabric and rubber outer material they use is a magnet for dirt and dust. Even a walk on a flat dirt or gravel path the shoes get very dirty somehow and have to wipe them off since the black colour shows the dirt easier. No other black shoe I've owned showed this much dirt on the outside. As well when I got these the inside of the left heel vertical seams were not stitched together properly and there was a slight 1/2" vertical gap in the fabric which my heel could feel. I used fabric seam glue to close it. Not sure if QC should have picked this up or not since the small gap was only slightly obvious.

I bought these about a 18 months ago and only used them for ~3 months because of I experienced some very unfortunate and un-diagnosable blisters.
When wearing these shoes, I only seem to get blisters on my left heel. I cannot see anything physically wrong with the shoe but it seems there's either an issue with the stitching or something wrong in the heel cup. I've tried thicker socks, bandaids, tying the shoes as tightly as possible, vaseline on my heel, etc. and nothing helps. In the end, they're just not worth wearing because of this issue.
Otherwise, the shoes are great. Waterpoof, light, comfortable, etc.

I bought these shoes a little more than one year ago because the fit my feet very good and they are also supposed to keep me dry. After little more than one year of use, and I use them a lot, they leak water. Feet and socks get wet when walking for a while in wet grass or water.

I generally like these shoes, however, the shoe is leaking after just over a year of use. There must be a leak in the seam or a hole worn in the Gore-Tex. I'm really disappointed as I have not worn the shoes that much and I would expect them to last a lot longer. If the liner has worn through they need to make them a lot more durable. I have had similar shoes from other brands that have lasted a lot longer. The sole is grippy on rocks and roots but the lugs are large and flat and not very aggressive. The shoes have really bad grip on loose ground and snow. I have so many other Arc'teryx products that I love but I won't be buying any of their Gore-Tex shoes again.

I got these shoes in a US size 13 in Fall 2019 ahead of a few hikes in the 15-20km range, but I'm pretty disappointed one issue is likely a unit defect, while the other is a sizing issue.
The unit defect has to do with the stitching on the heel of _one_ of the shoes; after about 8-10km, it starts wearing through both socks and my heel, and within 1-2km of this wear the injury gets bad enough that I needed 1-2 days of recovery time.
The sizing issue's weirder, since I've got a pair of Arc Acruxes in the same size that fit perfectly (even in thick wool winter socks), and they might be the most comfortable hiking shoe I've ever owned. The Aerios in the same size are noticeably undersized, and crush my toes even in thin summer hiking socks.

Had these for 7 months now and cannot recommend now that have been used in the winter.
They are a light, good looking and stable shoe that on paper are ideal for light hiking however with the first light snows here in Scotland have failed due to their poor waterproof integrity and are not too grippy on snow.
The inside of the shoes were damp above the side bumper and at the toe, on both shoes. There was also moisture on the footed when I removed the inner sole..
On the plus side though..
The shoes lock in place well, the traditional lacing system is excellent with no heel lift with good padding and shock absorption but they are pretty narrow, even for my standard width fit.
Not a patch on my other Arc kit - and I have allot including LEAF gear which is worth the extra cash no question.
Disappointed

Lovely product but too small . I am a 8.5 uk and all my lowe boots , brooks , other shoes fits perfect but these are too tight . Walked around house for 2 hours as other reviews said to try but just too tight couldn't wait to take them off . I would suggest going 1/2 size up from your normal size . The width is the problem . Had to return but will order a larger size as loved the quality

Loves these but after about 8 months both my low top as well as mid boot versions are suffering from the dreaded Aladdin toe curl where the front toe section bends up making them less comfortable.

These are great lightweight hiking shoes and they have a terrific sole pattern that seems to be surefooted in the wet and dry. They are very comfortable to walk in and flexible so you can climb hills on your toes. The downside obviously is the lack of robustness. They feel more like trainers or trail running shoes than hiking footwear. Objects penetrate the soles and the rands mark up easily. The worst flaw, however, is the lack of waterproofness despite the goretex membrane. This seems to be due to the design - the long tongue, despite being sewn in to the main body of the shoe, collects water and so after a morning of walking in persistent rain, my toes were damp. Not good for UK autumn use!

I tried these for a few days and they have a different fit than the Konseal FL shoes I have been wearing for a year. I ended up sending them back. They felt wider than the Konseal, and no extra hole for the heel lock lacing. I was hoping they would fit the same as the konseal FL , which were great for scrambling around the rocks in Norway and Sweden, while still being a great all around travel, everyday shoe. I figured the Aerios would be better for hiking and getting wet in the long grass with the gortex and a more aggressive treads

Overall a great shoe but with a major flaw. The toe cap area has a thick rubber layer that scratches way too easily and leaves a horrible scar on the shoe. I've only worn it for 4 days (Urban walking commute) and the rubber toe cap area is already terribly scratched. Other than that the shoe is great, love the versatility, comfort and refined styling!

Starting fraying after three months. Usually Arc’teryx gear is nigh on bullet proof and lasts a good long time. These? Not so much.
