Dear Veja: Please read some reviews and fix this widely reported problem! We LOVE your shoe styles and concept, but for the love, please modify the tongue of all of the sneakers. It is unbearably painful for most humans. This is the third style I've tried and couldn't even bear the pain of breaking-in phase. Also, sizing is pretty far off. I went a full size smaller, and could still go down another 1/2 size. So frustrating.

I wear size 6 to 6.5 and got a size 6 in these but they made my feet look long and felt half a size big. Also they were uncomfortable. I ended up buying the v-12 in size 5 and they fit perfectly and look cuter and more comfortable.

The tongue is gouging into the front ankle bone. I love how they look but they left cuts on my ankle. I wore them for two hours hoping they’d break in. Unsure if I will keep them. I was surprised there was very little arch support.

I am a true 7.5 and the EUR 38 fit well, but like others have said the tongue is made of such a hard material it gouges the front of the ankle and makes it impossible to walk for any period of time. They are such a cute style, but they have to go back.

The size was fine. The style of the shoe is great. Everything else is garbage. The quality of your average pair of vans is SIGNIFICANTLY higher than these. The materials are extremely cheap. Leather is hard and almost seems to be plastic. The fabrics are cheap. They’re sewn poorly. They look like cheap sweatshop fakes.

I actually love these shoes. There's definitely a break-in period, but now I wear them everywhere. They were also true to size for me.

I’m a true size 7. I ordered a size 38 (US 7) and it felt one size too big, even with socks on. My feet kept slipping out whenever I walked in them. I ordered a size 37 (US 6) and it felt more true to size. The shoes are hard and it will take some time to break them in, however they look good!!!

These were super cute in pictures. But, this issue with the tongue is very irritating. I am so sad that I have to send these back. I was hoping they would be my new, cute and current, run around shoe. I don’t understand after all of these reviews stating the issue with the tongue, that the company hasn’t adjusted it. The tongue will for sure cut into my ankle. I don’t have time or patience for the long break-in period.?

The leather was very stiff. The tongue was too long and cut into my foot.

Love these sneakers! They’re just as cute in person, if not cuter. I read the reviews about sizing down and so I did. They fit perfect. I’m generally an 8, so I ordered a 37. They definitely needed to be broken in, but after only walking in them for only a few hours around the house, they’re already so comfortable. I love them!

Like others say there is definitely some break-in time. As far as comfort, we’re talking something along the lines of converse. So what you really get the shoe for is the style — and it is worth it, they look great.

Received my Veja's a few days ago. wore them yesterday for the first time. had no issues at all!! they are cute and comfortable. I bought a size down as suggested and they fit well. they are a little wider than I expected but that's fine. very cute.

There just wasn't anything about these shoes that I liked. When I took them out of the box the first thing I noticed was the toe of the shoe! It was pointed, and the rubber sole came way up onto the leather. They were heavy and had cheap shoe laces that did not move easily when I tried them on. Look a the picture of the VEJA Esplar beside the Cole Hann Grandpro to see what I mean about the toe.

Similar reviews to others, worn 3 times and they get more uncomfortable each time. I love the look but sadly will need to return them.

So painful. These cut into my ankles within 2 hours of wear and I can only wear them with bandaides. That’s a sign of terrible shoe design.

Fit was very correct because I checked the size chart and measured my foot (jus then add 0.5cm, precisely the lenght of an A4 paper) --> https://www.veja-store.com/en_uk/size-guide#ESPLAR Comfortable from the very beginning, I needed just a couple of hours of indoor walking. No tongue issues, but I am using socks as it is winter. Not good for walking long distances because of lack of arch support, but the inner shoe sole can be removed and replaced with one providing arch support. The minimalist look of this model makes it good not only with jeans but also with trousers.

Bought these as a gift for my boyfriend and he absolutely loves them. They’re a little stiff at first but now he wears them everyday with no issues! I have a pair also and absolutely love them.

Size 12 is too small for my 12M size. Will try size 13.

Runs 1/2 size big, leather softened in one day! I went back and forth as if I should order these sneakers. I have had stiff leather sneakers before, and I did not want to deal with breaking them in. A major Hollywood stylist I know recommended these, and she’s honestly never wrong... well, after reading all the reviews, I decided to size 1/2 size down and go for it. They were *slightly* stiff the first day, but honestly completely loosened up after a few hours wear. I previously owned the YSL leather star sneakers, and I literally wore those a year trying to break them in... and they never softened. These have a canvas lining, and I wore them with a no show sock, so I had no discomfort. To be clear, these are not like a knit running shoe-type sneaker, the are leather, so their will be some stiffness, but I think the more polished look is worth it. Glad I finally purchased a pair! Love the all white.

Love the fit. I ordered the 37 and normally wear a 7. They’re not super cushiony, but that doesn’t bother me- it’s like wearing a pair of flats with slightly more support.

These shoes were a little stiff out of the box, but within 15 minutes on my feet around the house, they started to loosen up. I wore them to work today and they were comfy all day! So happy with the style and the comfort. I normally wear a 6.5 or 7 and I ordered the size 37 (Women's US 6) in these and they fit perfectly. I am a size 37 in Euro sizes, so I'd recommend going by that number (I never wear a size 6 in any shoe). Highly recommend these for style and comfort!

These shoes look absolutely amazing! The leather is super smooth to the touch, but yes, they are a little stiff as others have mentioned. They are more comfortable than I expected after reading other reviews, but I've only worn them a few times so far and expect them to get better as they break in. My heal does slip just a little, but not enough for me to rate them as "too big". I wear an 11.5 mens, and ordered these in a European 45 (and think a 44 would have been a little small). I plan to wear no-show socks with them, so I don't expect them to rub. The white is extremely white, so be prepared! Overall, VERY happy with the purchase!

I was worried about the fit and comfort of the shoe, but they turned out to be perfect. I wear an 8.5 so I ordered the 39 (which is the equivalent of a US 8). When I put the shoe on the there was noticeable room in the heel area and I considered returning them; but after I laced them up the fit was much better. A lot of people complain about the discomfort from the tongue of the shoe. Since my shoe had a bit of room there was very little friction and by the second wear they were very comfortable. Also they don't cause any discomfort to my pinky toe like my Vans. The shoes are great and are super stylish.
