I believe I have tried on every hiking shoe on the Zappos site looking for "the one". Thank you Zappos for your patience and easy returns. I wanted a lightweight hiking shoe with a fabric top for breathability (I live in the desert). Essentially like a tennis shoe with a hiking shoe bottom, but without the bottom being too bulky like some hiking shoes...I finally found it in this shoe. The bottom of this shoe isn't as bulky as others which renders it easier to maneuver in because it's less stiff than others but still has great stability. It is a bit odd that there isn't the ribbon in the middle of the tongue that you can slide your lace through, but the tongue is gusseted so it won't be going anywhere. I love Keen shoes, but they simply do not make a hiking shoe with a fabric upper and I just don't want full leather. I love this shoe, it is a different color than other shoes, good stability, good arch support, and comfy. I have very sensitive feet so that's saying something.

These are, imo, GREAT hiking shoes and I have problem feet that are now 69 years old -- arthritis, post-bunion surgery, you name it. I tried other more expensive brands, but settled on these the moment I put them on. I normally wear a size 9 shoe, however, I chose to size up to a 9.5 in these because I learned years ago that I need that little bit extra when I walk long distances or hike. I walk 4+ miles a day on uneven dirt paths 5 or 6 days a week and these shoes are just terrific. Also, it should go without saying but I will anyway, Zappos is simply the best!

I have really hard to fit feet. A big bunion on one foot and metatarsitis. Feet are wide and lots of shoes don't come in a wide version. These shoes are wonderful - even by Merrell standards which are really high. Merrell's are one of the shoes that consistently fit me. These were amazing right out of the box. Comfortable, cushy, good support, lots of toe room. I LOVE these shoes. Look cute too!

I tried these on, instantly liked them, and went on a 7 hour hike in the Massanuttens. They are fairly light, and provide good traction. I have wide feet, and these could be a little wider to be perfect for me, but they are already stretching out. Basically love them!

These shoes are amazing! Took them out on a trail today and the support was incredible. Very light weight, good tread to provide stability, and are well made. I bought my normal shoe size and the fit was just right. The yellow isnt AS bright in the photo by the way. Highly recommend these Merrell's!

I really like these shoes a lot. Perfect for the kind of hiking my dog and I do. They were comfortable from the first moment I put them on. Originally I ordered 7 1/2 to compensate for heavy socks but they were a bit too large, so I ordered the 7's which arrived the next day and fit perfectly. Will return the larger ones. Can't wait to go walking in the morning. This is one of the pleasures of ordering from Zappos, fast service and the convenience of easy return.

I love the look, fit and comfort of this hiking shoe. The lacing system allows for a more custom fit to your foot. I happen to have a slightly wide ball of the foot and narrow heel. I was able to adjust the laces on a medium width of this shoe to fit just right. I wore them on my last awesome hiking adventure. They arrived just in time, as I had to try on and return a few different hiking shoes and different sizes before I chose this one. They are waterproof. However, if you get water inside of them from the top around your ankle they will take days to dry completely. Take care or take a spare pair of shoes on your next adventure if that is likely to happen on your hike. These are so comfortable they remind me of favorite tennis shoes I used to have years ago. I plan on wearing these as tennis shoes around town now because I like them more than my current pair of tennis shoes. I also recommend the non-waterproof version of this shoe. My daughter has a pair of those and loves them.

I bought these for hiking with the hope that I would want to wear them for walking and running errands after my hiking trip as well. I have not only worn them quite comfortably for hiking in the spring, but also all summer, fall and winter for walking and errands except in the most freezing or snowy weather. I live in Michigan. One drawback to these shoes is that since they are waterproof, they are not very cool for the hot summer days. When it was really hot I much preferred a breathable pair of slip on tennis shoes I have. The other is that if water does get inside the shoes, for example if you wash them, they will take some time to thoroughly dry out. As for hiking many trails over three days in spring very soon after I bought these, my feet were comfortable and supported. The only drawback then was that after a very heavy rain the soles of these shoes did not grip as well on some very steep, very worn to a dangerous slant, wet slippery steps carved into the rock on one of the hikes as I would have liked them to grip. I slipped a bit, but did not fall. These shoes have worked well for just about everywhere I have been in them without causing me any pain or blisters. That is saying a lot, since I am most comfortable barefoot at home.

I am extremely happy with this hiking shoe. I wear a large size for a woman (11) and find it hard to buy online. This shoe was comfortable right out of the box and I did minimal breaking in before 5 solid days of mountain hiking. It was great and was waterproof with the rain and mud we encountered. I couldn' t be more pleased and would buy this again...although I expect it to last a while!

I'm returning the waterproof Alverstones that I tried and keeping the regular Alverstone shoe which I'll keep waterproofed by spraying it. I wanted something heavy duty and waterproof for walking in Minneapolis winters. But the waterproof models just do not feel as comfortable, pinching my toes and not hugging my ankles. Not sure how they can be so different in fit, but they are. I'm so happy with the regular Alverstones and my thanks as always to Zappos for letting all of us gals try so many different models and sizes!!!

I usually wear a 10 but I was doubtful and order 9 1/2 & 10. I will keep the 9 1/2 and still have room for medium thick socks. Wore them a couple of hours in the house and found them comfortable although on one foot, there was a slight discomfort at the ankle since the shoes go quite high. I’ll try to wear them with a higher socks and see in the field. That’s the beauty of Zappos because I know I’ll be able to return them if this is always an issue.

I've worn Merrell for many years and have worn out quite a few pair. This was the only time I had to order a half size larger than my normal size 9. I always get a waterproof shoe and while they've all been pretty much waterproof when I would spill on them, all of them have leaked at the seam where the sole is attached to the upper. I was really disappointed when after only 4 months of wear, one of the lace holders broke. Now I can't lace them up properly. Hmmm, up until now, even though my feet didn't stay dry again, I would have ordered another pair of Merrells. Now, I'm not so sure.

The shoe fits well, but so far I've only worn it inside to break it in. It's as comfortable a shoe as I've been able to find. The toe box is fairly wide, but the heel support holds well. I can wear it in my size (usually wear 9, fits true to size) with a medium weight hiking sock. They are fairly boxy looking but will be fine for where I was going to wear them.

The removable insole allowed me to use my orthotics, something that isn't always easy to use. They were comfortable enough to wear all day. After summer of wearing lighter shoes, they felt heavy, but I adapted quickly.

Bought this for my teenage daughter with wide feet to take on a hiking trip. She loves the style & the fit, which says a lot from a fussy teen. These look durable and light. Fits true to size. Got it in the black color.

Very comfortable and supportive, but the width was wider then I had expected even with thicker hiking shoes.

I had great hopes for this shoe. I'm not a serious hiker but do like to have a good shoe for walking trails, somtimes relatively hilly/rocky. Unfortunately, on my foot the top of the toe of the shoe seemed to be more shallow than worked for me.

Love these right out of the box! If you need a bigger toe box and narrower heal, these are a great fit.

Boy, oh boy do I have difficult feet to fit....narrow heels, bunions in the front and bony overall. Merrell is the brand that fits me best with a supportive arch and plenty of footbed padding. With thick socks and adjustment of the laces I'm ready for a hike. They're lighter weight than other brands too.

These things felt great and were wearable/hike able right out of the box. I hike in fields, trails everyday, and ALWAYS come home with wet feet. I wore these and came home with DRY FEET for the first time in ages! I can’t speak to walking in actual water, but for my purposes, these are great!

I wish these fit correctly, cause I'd just keep them! I think they were a half size small, so I'm going to try ordering a bit larger. They might still be more narrow than I'm used to. I've been wearing chaco's hiking shoes for a couple years now.

I wish the women's version of this shoe came in WIDE! I loved everything about this hiking shoe: attractive colors, wonderfully lightweight yet with a terrific sturdy not-too-bulky sole, and just-right tread for Colorado's trails, and it's waterproof! They look more like athletic shoes than clunky boots. These are all things I've been searching for to take as my ONE pair of shoes for traveling (plus one pair of sandals). I usually wear 8 or 8.5 wide, but after reading a number of reviews that mentioned these worked for "problem" feet, including bunions and arthritis, I decided to try them. To be fair, I knew they came in Medium width only (as opposed to the men's Alverstone Waterproof, which comes in Wide), but I can sometimes wear Medium shoes and these looked wide with a flexible forefoot. They ALMOST worked. I ordered an 8.5 M and wore them in the house for 4 hours before I had to admit defeat. They are truly lightweight, a good length, and very comfortable, but I need a Wide after all, so I returned them. I hope Merrell will make this perfect lightweight waterproof hiking shoe in women's WIDE. For those with more typical medium-width feet (or maybe just medium-wide), these are terrific!
