Finally! My new go to hikers! I have one bad foot (tendon problems mean I need crazy good arch support) and the other is just a little wider in the forefoot...and I have skinny heels so shoes slide off. These shoes are amazing—the only hiking shoes I’ve ever tried (and there have been A LOT of shoes go through this house) that I don’t have to add anything to—no arch, no insole, no nothing! Wore them straight out of the box for an entire day of yard work and hiking. No break in required. The lacing system means they don’t slide and there’s enough padding in the sole to hide the roots and rocks on the trail. But the ARCH SUPPORT! I’m in heaven. If you need good support, a roomy toe area and no sliding on your heels these are for you! (And my DH says they’re “cute” which is great but WHO CARES because they’re SO COMFORTABLE!)

These may be the best shoes I have ever owned. I had worn Merrells for years, and then the quality and construction of the shoe changed, so I switched to Keens. I purchased a pair of more sneaker like Merrells about a year ago, and I have been pretty pleased with them. I first looked at the Merrell Alverstone because of the outstanding reviews - and I am happy to say I can add to the collection. I have been dealing with terrible knees for years...I am currently waiting to have a second total knee replacement. My first replacement made my right leg straight again, so I am a little over 3/4 of an inch "taller" on that leg. I have to wear insoles in my left shoe - which has unfortunately limited my footwear options. These shoes are lightweight, extremely comfortable, and even accommodate the lift in my shoe without making me feel like my foot is coming out of the shoe. I wore them the first day they arrived to go on a walk with the husband and our dog - while I am limited due to knee pain, my feet were certainly comfy. I am on my feet on concrete floors all day in my classroom - the shoes are really nice looking (I have always preferred the look and feel of hiking shoes over regular athletic shoes). I was so hesitant to wear them to my classroom - I teach ceramics and didn't want to get them dirty just yet. They are so comfortable that I decided if I needed, I would buy a second pair. One that could be my dirty pair and one to wear out when I am not planning on hiking. Seriously can't say enough good things about these shoes. Arch support feels great, footbed is plenty comfortable for me. I am super picky about my shoes. As I am typing I think I am going to send back the other pair of more sneaker-like shoes that I also purchased and go ahead with another pair of these. Of course, Zappos makes ordering and returning shoes a total breeze. SO grateful for a company that "gets" customer service.

I generally do not have good luck buying shoes without first trying them on. I had a pair of Merrell's that I literally wore out so I took a chance and ordered a new pair from Zappos. Not only did they arrive the very next day but they fit perfectly. I have plantar fasciitis and these shoes work well for me. I do a lot of walking in Florida and during hot weather in Virginia. These Merrells are strong enough to wear every day but lightweight enough to wear in high heat.

Everything is exactly as everyone else said. These shoes are definitely accommodating for people with bunions and white feet. It has a narrow heel grip so it’s comfortable there too. The arch support is strong yet comforting.

I accidentally wore them for ten hours straight on the first day and they were marvelous. Truly exactly as they are described. Solid shoes, not a lot of flex, but roomy inside (even for a wide foot).

I am returning this size 9.5 for a 9. I am normally a 9.5, and usually buy up a size in dress boots, and sometimes heals. I have never has a pair of Merrell's so am hoping that the smaller size will do the trick because I really want these for hiking!

I bought these because my husband and I started taking very long walks (5 miles+) every morning to avoid crowds - after the stay at home order started in March. Everything I owned became very uncomfortable after a few miles - sneakers, walking shoes, etc. I have now been wearing these every day - so I estimate that it's been almost 100 days. They are AMAZING. I don't have even one criticism. I could walk forever in these wonderful shoes.

I normally wear a 9, sometimes 9.5 depending on the shoe/brand. I ordered a 9 and it's perfect - like this shoe was designed especially for my feet! It's perfect for fall hiking on uneven woodland trails where roots and rocks are hidden by leaves. They felt good right out of the box and are roomy enough for the wool socks I knit. The arch support is excellent. I'm very pleased. I will definitely try Merrell again.

If you have worn the original Merrrell's "Sport Siren" hiking shoes (before they changed the fit and styling to it's present day version) and loved the old comfort, appearance, feel & fit as I had, you will LOVE the Alverstone. I kept looking for another Merrell style that would be closer to the original Sport Siren and I FINALLY FOUND IT with this Alverstone. The fit, arch support and appearance is as close to my old favorite as I think I will find - it was a total winner for me. The toe box is ample but the heel fit is snug. If your foot is slightly on the wide side (say a "C" width) these will fit perfectly. It is well padded and has a good arch support. They were comfortable right out of the box. I wear my Merrells for both trail & street walking on my morning hikes with my cocker. They also will work for a off-roading hike or a week end of camping. My only suggestion would be to have them come in more fun colors . I've just ordered a second pair as a back-up.

These shoes are great right out of the box. There was no break-in period at all. I have had issues with plantar fasciitis for years, so I need good arch support. These provide great support. Sometimes a new shoe causes my PF to flare up at first, but these did not. Super comfortable, well made, and attractive.

I have been wearing Merrell for over 10 years and have always gravitated toward the Moab. I normally take 7.5 but recently have had some difficulties with the Moab 2 as the width does not feel as wide as prior years. However, the Alverstones fit great with very good arch support. They had more cushion than the Moab and are much more comfortable. Will be keeping these shoes!

Perfect! This lightweight, flexible shoe has the sturdy support of a hiking shoe with the comfortable feel of a sneaker. Ideal for a day hike with a light pack or just trekking around the city, these shoes will make an excellent travel companion for excursions from the pavement to the mountains. The sole provides superb traction while being flexible enough for daily wear, and the toe box is roomy so your feet don't get cramped and tired by the end of the day. I foresee the Merrell Alverstone as being my number one choice for traveling throughout Europe with a backpack of camera equipment. The streamlined style is very attractive and doesn't scream, "hiking shoes," so they are absolutely fine to accompany any casual attire. I purchased the charcoal with the pretty teal mesh upper and the color goes nicely with whatever you're wearing. The biggest debate I had was weather to get the waterproof version or not, and opted for no waterproofing to maximize breathability during the upcoming warmer months. When the weather turns colder again, I'll most likely purchase the mid cut version with weatherproofing. These amazing shoes will not disappoint!

I LOVE these shoes - I’ve been having trouble with plantar fasciitis, and these shoes make it feel so much better. Sooo supportive and comfortable. They’re not going to win a beauty contest, but they’re fine casual shoes with jeans or leggings. I would, and probably will, purchase again.

Super comfortable. Granted, I have yet to take a loooong hike in them but they fit my feet great. I have a medium width 8.5 size foot and I hope this shoe lasts and lasts. at 80.00 it was a great price too.

I love these hiking boots. No breaking in necessary and great support. I have had surgery on my foot for plantar fasciitis so I know to wear good shoes with support. Merrill’s and Vionic have NEVER let me down!

These are very, very comfortable Merrells. Somewhat lighter than other hiker models, but that's what I was after. I bought the shoes for walking on cobblestone streets in France, and I think I'll have all the support I want as well as insulation from uneven surfaces. Heel fit is very secure too.

I love these new Merrell's! I have plantar fasciitis in one foot. When I wear these shoes I have no pain! They're a good color and they are lightweight. I would buy another pair in a heartbeat. Planning on wearing these on a trip to Israel, where I know we're going to be doing a lot of walking.

The shoes run a little small, so I had to reorder a half size larger than usual. Very comfortable, roomy fit, and I love the styling and airy fabric.

I bought this style of Merrell [Alverstone] after wearing the Merrell Moab Ventilator for many years. 3 pairs in 8 or 9 yrs. Sadly it is has been discontinued and the Moab Vent. 2 wasnt the same for me [a story for another day]
The Alverstone is super comfy and has the same feel as the original Moab, it's just a teeeeny bit sleeker which is ok.
It has great traction. The fit is true to size with wiggle room in the toe box.
The only reason i gave it 4 stars in the "Overall" category is because i really dislike the shoe laces [easy fix] Theyre slippery nylon-ish material and require a bit of double looping and double bowing to keep them from coming undone.
And the heels are a little squeaky...but i think thats because there's so much bounce/cushion in the heel.
It doesnt bother me. The comfort and style of this shoe PLUS the totally reasonable price out way the couple minor issues that i mentioned.

These shoes have odd arch support, molded into the lasts right at the arch. Feels stiff. I have high arches, so I want support, but these just didn’t feel right. I was puzzled that the pair of WP shoes I received a few months ago in this style didn’t feel this way, so I took them out of the closet to compare. (They had arrived in a plain brown box, with a note that the original had been damaged.) Comparing the style and the soles, I realized the older ones were Moab Vent—not Alverstone WP. I also realized I like them much better. So I’m returning these.

women's alverstone shoe- smaller than true size 9, with a weird uncomfortable incline to shoe. The shoe is also VERY heavy and boxy. I was very surprised because Merrell is my 'go-to' shoe for comfort and fit - OOPS swing and miss on this one.

I bought these shoes a year ago for a vacation where I knew we'd be hiking about 5 miles/day. They worked out well right out of the box. I have high arches and lower back issues as well as a tendency to slip or trip on trails. These shoes helped me hike longer and safely even on dusty hilly trails. Only thing is they tend to be just OK when walking around the neighborhood on harder surfaces like pavement and asphalt. Not as padded as my sneakers and I notice that I have a slightly sore back and foot fatigue a lot sooner than if I had worn sneakers. Otherwise love them for trails.
