I've been wearing Merrells for at least ten years now. These shoes have the all quality and robustness that I have come to expect with the Merrell brand. These are a great everyday summer shoe as they let your feet breathe and aren't ruined by the occasional summer rain. You can wear them with socks or without-- although at first I found driving with no-show socks for long periods of time to be a little uncomfortable due to chafing on my achilles tendon. This is easily remediated by wearing either no socks or ankle high socks and it also has reduced significantly as the shoe has broken in. Otherwise, these shoes fit well and are very comfortable when walking/running/lounging.
For outdoor trips like rafting and kayaking, these shoes really shine. They have plenty of grip on the river bed and on the mud at the river side. The shoes dried quickly and unlike a pair of old Merrells that I let dry rot, are good as new after being submerged. I wish these had a elastic band instead of laces as my shoes got untied a few times in the water, but double knotting also works.
Overall I would recommend these if you want a good looking, versatile, and durable shoe.

The description said that these shoes had bungee lacing but they are regular laces. I need something that will not come undone and possibly trip me. I’m returning these but otherwise they fit great

Good shoe for flat trails and near water. As this shoe is quite light weight, not so great for rocky trails (not enough support). I use mainly when walking dog in flat, open fields that are often wet, and so far, they have held up well.

I bought this shoe because I love water sports and hiking with bits of water along the way and I don't like wearing socks. Took it on a camping trip with fishing, white water rafting and hiking included. Very comfortable, lightweight and dries quickly. In fact I would wear this shoe for even more day to day use if I wasn't concerned about the removable liner. It doesn't seem very durable and always tries to come out with your foot when removing the shoe. The liner bends at basically the same place when taking off the shoe so I'm concerned it wont hold up very long because of the material used (kind of a spongy foam material). If Merrell improves the liner, I will definitely buy a new pair once mine wear out! Please let me know if you do fix this:)

these were a half-size large from my normal size (likely due to the fact that i plan to wear these WITHOUT SOCKS). if you do plan to wear socks, they were exactly the correct size.
I didn't wear them for more than enough to determine this, and returned for correct fitment. The construction and overall quality seemed decent.
i also have a narrow heel, and these were... a tad loose in that area, so i may wear a sock-liner that can quick-dry if any blisters were to occur.
waiting on replacement size and will either update or re-post new review with additional details.
being in seattle area with rocky beaches, i wanted a sturdy shoe-like "water shoe" with good traction and ability to prevent those little rocks/pebbles and barnicles on them from getting between sandal supports, so the mesh here is perfect application for kayaking, SUP, and beach strolls. I have high expectations, so i hope these live up to the Merrell standards.

This is my first pair of Merrell shoes and I have to say that I am impressed. I live on a creek and wear these frequently. High quality. Water, mud, grass, rocks, no problem. Also, these seem to dry out faster than my previous pair of comparable water shoes from a competitor. I have skinny legs so small gravel gets in the shoe from time to time around the ankle. 4 out of 5 stars since there is no way to adjust or tighten around the ankle.

I typically wear size 13 in Merrells and 14 in most other shoes. This style in 13 is quite large, and I have considered requesting a size 12 for comparison. Other than that, I used them on a trip in Glacier and they performed great. I would just like to have a more secure feeling fit.

Good shoe but need a wider size. Hoping they break in some but on first few hikes feet feel uncomfortably squeezed. Grateful to take them off again. Got these to replace 12 year old Columbia water hikers I had that always felt great. Disappointed Columbia no longer makes them and that my Choprocks are so tight.

These shoes have a rich feature set and seem well-made, long-lasting and suitable for their purpose. However, I can't wear them because their medium width is too narrow for my extra-wide feet, even when ordering up a full size. (My feet always have been extra-wide but the effects of weight and gravity have made them wider and longer as I have aged.) I'd like to challenge Merrell, in a good-natured way, to make these shoes in wide and extra-wide versions and also to make extra-wide versions of their wide shoes. After all, Merrell footwear would be a great alternative to the other brand of active footwear that I buy because made for men like me. If women are right (and they are) that it's time for people to stop expecting them all to have model-like figures, then it's time for shoe manufacturers to stop expecting all men to have only medium or only medium and wide feet. Stop the foot-shaming!

I bought this shoe for our trip to the Black Hills, SD area. It worked great for grip and feel. I did end up with quite a bit of sand and small rock in the bottom of the shoe the few times I was in the water. I found myself taking the shoe off to rinse out because of this. I would prefer fixed laces vs. tied and as with most Merrell's I've had, the support at the back of heel is pretty stiff and can rub the skin on long days (even with socks on). If your after a breathable, snug fitting shoe with lots of grip this shoe is for you.

I love these shoes for the ability to go in and out of water, The reason I gave them a two star is because one of the shoes digs into my heel so bad that I cannot wear them.. They have been like this since I bought them and figured once they are broke in they would stop. Unfortunately they have not stopped digging into my heal and have become a Dust magnet in the garage.

Bought size 15 and they arrived with a few other models. Size is a 16 and I may send them back. I posted a picture next to the same size Yokota. The Yokota's seems small. Merrell usually has the true to size but I think their quality is dropping off.

I got these shoes as replacements for some Merrell Capra rapids from a few years ago which I loved but can't find currently available. The Capra rapids were very comfortable walking on dry land or wet. With or without socks. These choprocks on the other hand are not comfortable on dry land at all especially without socks. I am also not a fan of the insole pulling out or bunching up every time I pull my feet out of the shoe. These shoes do not have a conventional tongue, instead the construction is more sock like with leather like webbing for the laces. The lack of tongue is probably to help keep rocks and debris out of the shoe but it fails and only makes it difficult to remove the shoes even when the laces are loosened. I would be very nervous and hesitant to rely on these shoes full time on a hike like havasupai or the narrows in Zion NP which I used the older Capra rapids for without blisters or discomfort.
One pro that the choprock has over the Capra rapid is the grip on the vibrant sole is much more aggressive. But that is the only thing I like about these shoes.

A nice fitting shoe and the toe cap is a great feature. The downsides are the low collar at the back of the heel - my foot slips out easily, also the band at the same area digs into the back of my foot. Best part of this shoe is the grips, I use them for scrambling and they cling to most surfaces like glue. I was disappointed that the upper lace grommets frayed and broke after one summer season of use. Seems poor quality given the price. Overall some very good features but not worth the money due to problems mentioned.

First pair of Merrell shoes and I have to say I am not impressed. The look and fit were very good at the store and I was excited to wear them, but within the first 1/2 half mile of "break-in" I had heel blisters so bad I had to stop and change shoes. The heel is not padded at all and the stiffener to pull them on is as hard as a rock. I would return them if I could at this point. I have never posted a negative review for anything and I am disappointed this is my first.

Bought for canoeing. Was looking for a quick-draining shoe with a hard toe cap to protect toes when I have to get out and drag in the rapids. I don't want all the openings in the upper that sandal-type river shoes have, as that lets in more pebbles/gravel/sand, that then gets between the sole of the foot and the foot bed of the shoe, which is painful, and can necessitate having to stop and take the shoe off to empty it. These shoes seemed to fit the bill, although I would prefer the toe cap to be a bit harder/thicker, and to come further back. I do like how the tongue is integrated into the rest of the upper, which will help to minimize the aforementioned entry of gravel. My major gripe, which would have actually caused me to not purchase them had I known/noticed, is the lack of quick-tightening bungee-type laces. These just have regular old shoelaces that you have to tie and untie. I mean, who doesn't put the bungees on a river shoe?! Very disappointed, and the reason for two stars.

My Choprock Sieves let me down. They were great last summer. This summer, three of the lace loops broke, two on one shoe and one on the other. I looked for this shoe on line, and they weren't there this year. Discontinued? Design flaw?

I bought these shoes thinking that they were an excellent idea combining water and hiking shoes. Unfortunately the shoe is actually the worst hiking shoe and at the same time the worst water shoe I have ever worn. When using as a water shoe, dirt easily gets into it and does not flow out even when completely submerged. When using as a hiking shoe obviously dirt will get in but that's the forgivable part. The shoes have a sewn seam in the heal making them impossible to not get heal blisters when wearing without socks. Get the trail glove and save your feet

Very disappointed with the performance and comfort of these shoes (they're not low top hiking boots). I would classify these as a casual or leisurely activity based, low performance, water shoe. I selected these shoes to utilize when I kayak and for hikes where rivers and stream crossings are prevalent.
Blisters, blisters, and more blisters. I've never experienced such uncomfortable shoes - I was unable to wear these shoes without some sort of foot covering (Lycra water socks when in watery conditions or socks when not in water - defeats the purpose of this type of shoe).
The insoles, midsoles, and Vibram outer soles provide minimal Support and Protection. Unfortunately, You can feel rocks and roots easily. These are shoes, not low top hiking boots. The toe box outer rubber covering almost works - it looks like Merrell went for design over function. More rubber would actually protect one's feet/toes when walking rivers, banks, and trails.
They functioned adequately when kayaking as they move water quickly out of the shoe. I think this is probably the only function these shoes were pretty good at. But, once out of the kayak, walking in the rivers and trails, carrying my kayak demonstrated that these shoes are Not designed for carrying a load through rocky terrain or walking long distances through rivers, river beds, or roots.
Needless to say, I will never consider using these shoes for a river hike or extended trail hike. These shoes may be ok if you want to casually wade in slow moving streams or ponds

Bought these for canoeing and portaging in the boundary waters. I wanted a good brand of shoe for comfort and quality. after purchasing i tried them on and they felt good and i was optimistic. After get into the water and walking my first shorter portage about 150 feet i had some discomfort in my heals and there was a substantial about of small sand in the shoes. after another short canoe and portage i had to take them off and inspect my feet due to strong discomfort. At the point i was only wearing to shoe a couple hours and walk a short distance with a combination of hiking rocky trailer and shallow water accesses. Both my heals had dime sized blisters. after reading other reviews after on purchase i see this is pretty common. So basically i just purchased the most expensive shoes of my life and and i would have been better of going bare foot. and i cant even return them now....DONT BUY THESE

Pros:
*Stitching seems to be really strong and the material seems high quality
*Fits to your actual size
*Really really good tread, great for hiking boulders and would be good hiking shoes overall but...
Cons:
*There's some hard plastic sewn into the back of the shoe that will bloody up the backs of your feet, right above the heel. 15+ miles of hiking and walking and that's still happening. Can't figure out how to get the plastic out without unsewing the backs of the shoes, which I don't want to do. Can't return them now but can't keep using them either. :(
*Absolutely no arch support. Almost the opposite of arch support. Fortunately inserts from my old Merrells solved that
*The stretchy part where you put your foot in digs into my leg. Can cause "cankles" since it squeezes your ankles so tight, even without tying the laces
*Oddly enough, even with the tight stretchy part, little rocks still get into the shoe when walking through water and have no way to get out
*The shoes are difficult to put on and take off, so when you do get rocks in them, they're a pain to get off (esp when wet) and put back on
My last pair of Merrells were the best shoes I ever owned but Merrell no longer makes them. Unfortunately, these shoes aren't great in water and the plastic chafing makes them unbearable for hiking. I wanted shoes that I could both hike some tough terrain and then walk in a lake at the end of the hike. These just didn't work out for me
