Because I had been wearing trail shoes with broad heels, it took me a while to appreciate these great shoes. On rocky descents they felt tall and tippy. Also, they looked tall and tippy compared to my Salomon trail runners. Feet are much better protected with Spires. When I day-hiked in Salomons I finished the day foot-sore. My feet were the least sore parts of me after similar days wearing Spires. So, the Spires got used a lot. Now, when I wear broader-soled shoes, I'm wishing I wore the Spires if the trail gets rough. Sorta like the transition from roller skates to ice skates, the Spires seemed tippy at first. Now they are not tippy at all, and my broader soled shoes seem clumsy. A broader sole just means finding a broader place to step. The Spires stay dry inside while wading along trails after heavy rain, dodging surf on the beach, walking on slushy melting snow. They are the least sweaty of the GTX shoes I have owned. I'm walking, not running, and looking for a shoe that let's me do more and keep going. These are the best I've found.

These are very sturdy shoes, which offer excellent support with regards to pronation. Arch support is fine - but that is mostly a matter of which insole you select. The tread is excellent for hiking, and they are also fine to wear around the city. The reason I'm giving them a low rating is due to the width of the toe box. They are simply too narrow to wear for long periods of time, and result in squished toes and hurting feet. They are fine for a few miles, but anything longer is not comfortable for me. I tried going a 1/2 size up, but the larger size was simply longer and no wider in the toe box. Note I've never had this issue with any other shoe in the past, and I consider myself to have narrow feet.

Seems like a tough shoe, but just ultimately too bulky for anything other than gnarly trails or hiking. Wearing it for a jog on the paths near me or for any other kind of activity seemed unlikely, as they were too heavy and stiff.

This is my third pair of these trail hiking shoes. They fit me very well, feel snug when I tighten them offering plenty of support. I hike on granite scree trails which eats up any lug sole so I have to replace them every two years. But, that would be true of any shoe. My only complaint is that the Gore-Tex inhibits breathability. Wish they came in a version w/o Gore-Tex. Otherwise, great shoe!

I recently bought these as a lighter shoe to accompany the Mid GTX I bought last year. This shoe is fantastic and checks off many boxes for me. I appreciate how light they are, the sturdiness is very noticeable, and the traction is fantastic. The heel construction allows for a very easy & natural gait, which I appreciate. Great shoe and recommended!

I bought my pair on a trip to Iceland recently in the only clothing store I could find open on a Sunday in Reykjavik, and they saved my feet for sure. The next day I climbed a steep, rocky path to visit an extinct volcano, the day after that hiked up a glacier to drink direct from the source, and over the next several days climbed up and down many hills to visit waterfalls. I was expecting blisters; I had none. I knew nothing about this brand prior to buying these boots (I don't do much hiking and don't know much at all about hiking boots), and my choices frankly were limited to what brands this small store carried and what sizes were available. I can't believe my luck finding something that fit so well, required zero break in, and was comfortable from the moment I put them on. They are lightweight, kept my busy feet from drowning in sweat and, as they're a low-slung model, avoided any ankle-bone chafing that has irritated me in the past with brief encounters with standard hiking boots. I admit that I went to Iceland unprepared for just how rigorous it would be (Hoka sneakers are fine for all the walking I do in the hospital, but Iceland demands proper boots). These boots saved me for sure. I hate to think of how my much-anticipated trip would have turned out without them, and I know what'll go in my bag first for my next adventure.

women's Spire GTX Is the best shoe I have ever put on my feet! They saved me in Switzerland and Italy! They were amazing on the mountains and on the cobblestones. I never want to take them off!

Just bought my third pair. My everyday shoes for work and trail. Fit like a glove and offer great support/stiffness. Last me about a year. This third pair is running a bit smaller than the first two.

Purchased these after poring through reviews for technical low hikers/approach shoes. I wore them for a week and immediately purchased a second pair I liked them so much. I rarely do that before gauging a shoes durability but was convinced within a week that I would be replacing them with the same shoe. They do run very large so I had to send a few back to get the right fit. They're very roomy as a technical hiker/approach should be for carrying loads so that caused me to size down a full size. One of the most breathable if not the THE most breathable goretex shoe I've owned. Fantastic low boot.

This is a hiking shoe, not a running shoe. My current #1 choice for backpacking. Best if you have a narrow foot and ‘standard’ arch, imo. Gore tex is nice on wet/muddy trails but a slow to dry if you are crossing creeks (compared to a non-gtx shoe). Build quality and soles are durable. Heavy compared to running shoes, but very supportive with good protection on rocky trails. I prefer the LS mutant for day hikes and scrambles.

I am not sure what took me so long to write this review, but I must say that I absolutely love these shoes! I bought them in early 2019 for a hiking trip to Spain (the Camino de Santiago) and have since used them extensively for hiking through the mountains and hills of California. Even though the tread on the soles is a little worn at this point, they're still as comfortable as they were on the first hike I took in them. I use orthotics for my flat feet and bought them a half-size bigger and they've been great! No blisters or hot spots ever! This is especially important due to the fact that my wife bought another brand for our Spain trip and had blisters after day two. I am in the market to get a new pair of boots/shoes and will definitely get another pair since I know they work well for me.

I've had several pairs of these great shoes. My last pair gave me 2,056 miles of use. I started wearing them April 9th, 2021 and just retired them March 20th, 2022. These shoes have been on all my journeys and at work every day. I've hiked in the Rockies and Wasatch mountains. They have been my constant companions in slot canyons, washes, and canyoneering. About 310 miles of the 2,056 miles were hiking and adventuring. They are still comfortable and have never cause a blister. If the uppers were not ripped and tattered, I imagine that I could get another 100 miles of comfort out of these bad boys!

We recently developed a live for hiking and trail running but found the right shoes was essential. After much research my husband found the Spire GTX-Carbon. I bought a pair for both husband and son. This is a hiking shoe but is light enough to use as a trail running shoe. The grip is amazing as well as the comfort.

I bought these shoes several weeks ago ahead of a big backpacking trip on the AT. I just got back from the trip and enjoyed these shoes so much I felt compelled to give a review. I am a college student who does a decent amount of outdoor activities and wanted something versatile that could handle everything from day hikes to big backpacking trips. This shoe definitely met and exceeded my expectations. The biggest selling point of these shoes for me was the waterproof capabilities. This Gore-Tex stuff is incredible. I wore these shoes to class in heavy rain to break them in and my feet stayed dry all day. Same goes for when we encountered small springs or creeks on the trail. The waterproof material keeps all water out as long as it stays below the top of the shoe. I was really impressed with the grip of these shoes. There were some times on the trail where I wish I had the extra ankle support of a taller boot but the vibram grip on these still kept up really well. Just make sure you're very conscious with your foot placement and you'll be good. I personally really like the design of these shoes. I know the bright green isn't for everyone but it's used in moderation here and I like the green accent. The the outside of the shoe has held up really well so far and they are super breathable even while being waterproof. The mid-grade nature of these shoes means that they're not super heavy or bulky but they're still pretty tough, waterproof and provide all the necessary means for hiking on tough trails. Yes, these shoes are a bit pricey but I think its a worthy investment when it comes to an activity like hiking/backpacking where you don't want any doubts about your gear. In the future I will continue to use these for day hikes, backpacking trips and even walking to class on rainy days. They're great, versatile shoes and I highly recommend them.

On the more expensive side, but I consider this the Porsche of shoes right here. So glad I finally got this pair of shoes. I feel like a boss and they are so comfortable. They work great on the trail and I feel like I am in total command with the extra grippy Vibram soles. My only regret is that I didnt buy two pair cuz I'd like to keep these shoes forever. Defiantly my new all time favorite pair of shoes!

This is my Thursday pair of LA Sportiva - I've generally bought trail running shoes. I bought these and within a week it's my fav. They are hiking but, I work as an RN and need phenomenal support. They are stiff at first. My feet have never not been sweaty in a waterproof shoe till now. As far as waterproof - It rained 36 inches yesterday in Houston and my socks were still dry. Very happy. Wish had a lacing system other than just laces. I added the Solomon lacing system and now I'm a happy camper. Easy on easy off. I don't mind paying the price because the pairs I have had in past still look great. They just last and last. Quality is cool! In a world. Of throw away culture the difference is clear. Don't hesitate to try a pair. I generally find REI to have a nice selection. Thanks for reading. Fit seems just right and very standardized. In Nike I wear a 10.5 to 12. In these 11 no matter what. Which makes me less apprehensive to order on line.

I purchased these shoes for work. I spend a lot of time in the mud, poor weather, heat, on concrete so on and so fourth. I wear these 18 hours a day four days out of the week and I've never in my life had a more comfortable and durable shoe. I also get on the trail once a month or so and they are just as wonderful there. Killer in the gym for training. To add on, I have very flat feet and the support here is second to none. In my business I use harsh chemicals that have made many other shoes and work boots fall to pieces in a couple of months. These on the other hand are out of this world. I have purchased a pair for my father and best friend because I love both of them and they should be able to be as comfortable as I have been. Best shoe I have ever purchased.

I have worn these shoes everywhere from the Italian alps to hiking trails in the mid-west. I cannot say enough great things about them. After over a year of abuse and international travel they barely show a scratch. I have used them in mountain snow in Austria and my feet stayed warm and dry. They breath great even in 110 degree days in the California desert (though they were obviously still hot, cause everything is hot at 110 degrees). I paired these with a good pair of wool socks and hiked over 25 miles and my feet were still comfortable. I have logged over 500 miles of walking in all conditions and the cushion and support are still as good as the day I bought them. These are my go to shoes and I will bring nothing but these on many of the trips I take because they are dependable and comfortable day after day. Lightweight, comfortable, breathable, waterproof, and bombproof. I was willing to pay for top quality, and these more than delivered.

I love how light they are, and the grip they get. Hike a lot of level 4 scrambling, and have great confidence in these shoes. Only downside is the price, though am expecting durability will offset this.
