Took them out of the box brand new for a 19-mile hike in the White Mountains (NH) with 6,600' of elevation gain. Extraordinary shoes. I wear size 9 and the 9.5 was a very good fit. The shoes can be very precisely adjusted for tightness with the laces, which stayed in place without double-knotting. They were perfectly comfortable from the first step, no chafing, plenty of room in the toe to descend steep inclines without discomfort. Very light weight, but rugged enough to withstand the nasty rocks on Mt. Washington. The soles gripped rocks and roots tenaciously even when wet. Worth every penny.
I have never reviewed a product before, but these shoes are A+.

La Sportiva makes a great product. These look even better in person than in photos. They have a sticky sole but still feel like the rubber will last a while. The toe box shape is more of a true approach/light climbing shoe but without the toe box feeling cramped. The tread is quite aggressive and could definitely be used for more rugged terrain (unloaded). Also the design is mellow enough that they can be worn as casual shoes with a pair of jeans if you are so inclined.

The “width” rating does not tell the whole story. These shoes are great for feet like mine that are medium to wide in the forefoot and narrow in the heel. They also are very accommodating in terms of low-volume feet and a big toe that points upward a bit. As far as length goes I would recommend ordering one half to one full size larger than usual. It is awesome to find shoes that offer a good amount of room in the toe box yet also fit snugly everywhere else. I will be using these primarily for general trail/light-hiking needs.

Loved the TX4s until the area where the rand meets the sole wore through to the leather after about 6 months of wearing them approximately once a week on day climbing approaches. This was especially disappointing since the rest of the sole and uppers are still in great shape.

This approach shoe was a perfect fit and feel. The laces can be adjusted nearly all the way down for each individual comfort level. They took one 5 mile hike to break in perfectly. Used them to hike approximately 35 miles in Yellowstone over a few days. Extremely impressed with the comfort and support they provided. The sticky sole allows extra grip while scrambling and the toe box rubber allowed the toes to be wedged into nooks without damage.

I have a wide foot with a high arch. In a running shoe I purchase 4e when possible. Finding an approach shoe to fit was a challenge and I am thankful that Zappos provides such a wide array of offerings. Of the dozen or so shoes I tried on these were obviously very capable and well made. They were not a good fit for the architecture of my foot however. My eventual purchase was the Scarpa Zen Pro.

a great approach shoe for mixed alpine adventures, this shoe does it all! Its been a reliable and comfortable shoe for day hikes, and for more demanding adventures which involve trail and low 5th class rock climbing. I used this shoe on my climb up the Grand Teton on the recommendation of our guide, and have sworn by this shoe ever since.

One of the best approach shoes on the market. These shoes are durable, sticky, and super comfortable. I've had several pairs of these shoes and have climbed cracks in them, walked through snow, logged miles of approaches and the rubber wears out before the materials fails every time. I'm not sure what other folks are doing in these shoes that cause the shoes to fall apart like Ive read in other reviews. I feel like I've put these shoes through some serious abuse and they have held up well. I would definitely recommend these to anyone looking for a solid approach/wall shoe.

I got the same size I wear in most shoes. Toe box has a really nice shape if you prefer a little splay room. Excellent build quality yet instantly comfortable.

Made in China, not Italy, but seem well put together. Make sure you purchase a full size larger or toe may hit the end; especially with Morton's toe.

I bought these about a year ago an love them! I use them for everyday use, hiking, and scrambling across or up rocks. They work very well on slippery situations.

Full disclosure, I love La Sportiva shoes and I own several pairs. The TX4 is the best shoe to date. Yes, it is an excellent approach shoe, but it also an excellent all around shoe for the gym, light hiking and around town.

The perfect rough trail shoe for my wife and I. I have used the low and the mid version throughout Alaska and the PNW. The durability is phenomenal and the sticky sole absolutely perfect as an approach shoe is large boulder fields. Perfect toe protection. Perfect grip in all but sloppy mud. We always keep an extra new pair in their box fearing they might not keep the suede leather version in production. Don't change this shoe LaSportiva !! It is perfect.

Best shoe I've ever had for hiking. I went a 1/2 size up than my normal size and they feel perfect. The toe box does not feel cramped like some other brands I've tried. They also do not feel bulky or heavy. The sole has a great grip. I'll be buying more.

I typically have to use a custom insole to support my arch but it restricts the spreading of my toes. The wide toe box in these shoes allows me to use my whole foot to balance and go over any terrain. I was looking for a shoe that could deal with wet rocks. So far, I'm elated with it's performance. It's sturdy, fits like a glove and is flexible. It also breaths well, my feet don't get hot in them. I was looking for a shoe that would work well in every day situations and also off trail. It's a winner! True to size.

These shoes are extremely comfortable and well made. I use them as my everyday shoe and they preform well in the woods. Traditionally I have been very hard on shoes and usually blowout the toe box. These shoes have been very durable ! Highly recommend.

Don't judge me lol... was going stir crazy bc of COVID and not being able to fully unwind (yes I believe it's REAL real). Anyway figured I'd only have to really worry about my feet. These boots worked out nicely bc they allow flexibility and feel, while also providing the all important quality -- warmth.

These shoes are comfortable right out of the box.....no break in period needed. They are very functional as well. The sticky rubber sole is outstanding. Favorite shoes for hiking and wearing around town.

I spend most of my summers on remote trips bushwhacking, big walling, ridge traversing, and generally abusing my gear. Before I found the TX4, I was easily going through at least a pair of shoes a season, but the TX4 lasted three seasons of gnarly coastal conditions before I got a new pair. I initially bought the TX4 because they had a wide toe box that allowed for all of my toes to comfortably spread out, which I find important for long days in the mountains. These are hands down the most comfortable approach shoes I ever tried. I have never gotten a blister wearing them, even on the longest of days. The TX4 is also quite rain/water resistant. If I am stepping in small puddles or walking in a light rain, my feet stay dry. They have all the perks you would expect from approach shoes: great rubber, rugged tread, they are well suited to climb and scramble in, nice for basic toe jamming, and clip in points on the back for a carabiner to attach them to your harness. The real selling point for these shoes is the durability. The leather is incredibly durable. You can tell that the shoes are made in a way that is built to last, whereas, by the end of a full season, I normally found holes and delaminating rubber in my other shoes. The only wear and tear I had on my old pair of TX4s was on the tread, the shoe laces, and the eyelets. This is all usual wear and tear that happens over time anyways.
I wear size 43.5 in these shoes, which is what I would normally wear for my street shoe. Overall they are a great shoe and I would highly recommend getting a pair!

Great fitting shoe, comfortable all day long, sticky rubber for talus hopping, and they look great (when not covered in mud). It's everything I want in an approach shoe, so I bought 2 pair.

I absolutely love this shoe for it's all around versatility. I climb in the Canadian Rockies and the crag approaches are pretty intense. Hour plus hikes with a lot of elevation gain and loss, loose scree, scrambling sections, river crossings, you name it. These shoes are burly enough to take the punishment and reduce the impact on my feet and legs. They're also a great climbing shoe. I've climbed 5.10 multipitch routes also done a lot of forerunning in the gym in TX4s. They're pretty comfortable too and I wear them around the city as well.
