trekked around the south island of new zealand for two weeks in these and they proformed flawlessly. great waterproofing, great arch support, sturdy laces and solid soles. aslo super lightweight! feels like a backpacking oriented speedcross. one note- there isn't actually that much ankle support despite what it looks like, so if you're looking for more of a classic hiking boot with a lot of support I would choose something else.

great boot, super light with no compromise when it comes to supporting. I took them for a 9 hour hike the first time putting them on and was worried I would have horrible blisters. the shoes supported my feet perfectly and I walked away effortlessly with no blisters.

Doubtful that you will find a better support/weight ratio in a hiking boot. Why 4 stars? Material starting to come apart on both sides of the toe caps after 15ish miles off trail and 100ish miles on trail. If it was on one side on one boot I would attribute it to abuse or a miss-placed step but in this case the separation is equal indicating adhesion failure. Otherwise the boots have been durable and would buy another pair.

This shoe is perfect for hiking, both fast hiking with a small backpack or for multi day trips with heavy backpack. Water resistent, light and comfy!

Excellent boot. Covered a total of 55miles through the hills and flatlands during the 3rd rifle season of 2019 hunting elk in north western Colorado. These boots preformed exceptionally well with great traction in the snow and the loose gravel covered hillsides, both ascending and descending. The GTX did its job well, even when deer hunting in the Virginia Swamps - these are my go-to boot for all things "wild". Why 4/5 of? 1. the laces continually came untied even double knotted and tucked inside. if i didn't have to stop to constantly tie these, id give it a 5/5. 2. while the majority of the boot is constructed well, the tradeoff for having a light boot is "toughness". The plains of Colorado are covered in cactus, some with small spines and others with not so small spines. One such not so small spine found its way through the fabric material and into the arch of my foot. Unfortunately, this happened on multiple occasions. Understandably, this is not a leather snake boot, but being that it is an "OUTback" boot, a little added protection on the arch side of the boot would be a nice feature. Still a great boot and exceptionally comfortable for all day wear. Highly recommended.

First got these, all I can think of was how stiff and binding they felt. First issue of binding was partly my fault, was lacing too tight after the pinch keeper buckles, remedied by lacing loose after pinch buckles and was much more comfy. After break-in of about a weeks time, fell in love with these boots, they are light on feet, resist water/rain well, and my hooves feel great after wearing all day.

There's not much padding around the top. Took quite a few miles to work the stiffness to where they didn't rub my leg. They're fine now and I'm happy with them. The fit is generous, as advertised, which makes them very comfortable for my feet. They definitely wouldn't work for people with slender feet. I am hoping they hold up longer than the Ultra X 3 Wides that they replaced.

Wow what a sleek, comfortable boot, until I started hiking. The only issue I can say these boots have is the rubbing of the collar on my upper ankle. After an initial 4 mile hike, it left red abrasive marks on my lower leg through my wool socks. I am hoping I just need to break these in, but very disappointing as the rest of the boot seems flawless... will happily change to 5 stars if the ankle rubbing reduces during future use

The shoe is basically great. After putting it on for the third time, the right shoe is perfect, while the left shoe has a pressure point on the instep / big toe. This is very annoying and unpleasant. I hoped with the "break-in" it will be better, but unfortunately not. I think that I have to replace the shoe.

I purchased these online, loving the look and specs. The first couple of days were great until, the creases started to form in front of the bottom lace where the shoe bends. My right boot is fine, but the left crease is "deeper" and creates a terrible hotspot at the big toe top of foot area. I love the boot, but may need to switch these out.

Had these for 2 months and have used them for daily walks - clocking up 60 miles a week in that time. The good things first - lightweight, look great, comfortable, excellent grip (as always across Salomon range in my experience), waterproof and easy to clean. All very positive however I have quickly found them difficult to get the laces tight across the entire foot - with the lace slipping as you try to tighten and only the final 2 eyelets giving any grip/security to the foot - not sure this is due to the materials being used or the eyelets but unless I put some effort into tightening the laces for the full length of the boot they can feel lose on my foot - not a major issue I suppose but have been walking in Salomon for last 10 years never really had the issue before. The more worrying issue however is the seam already starting to fail on the rubber toe protector - this happened after a month of walking and whilst as yet has not got significantly worse it is only a matter of time before they start to fail (see photo). This has happened before on my last pair of Ultra Wide GTX but it took 2 summers of walking to occur not 2 months. Will see how they last but am already browsing for new boots.

I've only had these boots for a short time now, and during the winter so I haven't been able to take them on any long term excursions. But here's what I think so far. The best part of these is that each eyelet is metal, leading me to believe that they won't fail anytime soon (I've had other Salomon boots with fabric straps and they have ripped rendering lacing up impossible). The lace locking mechanism eyelet looks a little weak but it seems to be holding up just fine and is quite a convenient feature. I like it very much. The boot has minimal seams which leads me to believe it might be fairly durable. The Cordura fabric that the boot is layered with is breathable and flexible and feel tough. Time will tell whether it can hold up. My favorite backpack actually is built from the same Cordura fabric and it holds up very well. Lastly, though now the boot has some dirt and grime on it, when these were new, they looked very formal under a pant leg. If you're into the looks of a boot, these aren't too bad to look at. I tend to beat the heck out of boots so after a summer season, I might have to come back and give it a longer term review.

I had bought these shoes last spring (2019) and a month of casual hiking around the backcountry of alaska they were no longer waterproof, the front trim where the gortex and rubber flap met ripped on both feet. Prior to the shoes falling apart (and i say shoes because no way would a boot fall apart that fast) they were an amazing light weight, comfortable and extremely grippy tool. My prior boots, which i had to go back to, lasted me 3 years and 1,000's of miles backpacking, hiking, and working. I think if you can find a way to make this boot more durable it would be the best boot in your arsenal. It was so light weight it felt like i had a foot condom on ready to grip anything and kept my feet dry. Im being honest here because id love to see these boots turn into something awesome. Maybe instead of just glue you can try stitching or extending the materials a little more across the boot because it began separating right where my big toe bends.

I've had these shoes for 6 months and they already have multiple rips in the fabric and are coming apart at the sole. I had the QUEST 4D 3 GTX PHANT for two years prior to these shoes and would definitely recommend them over this set. I wouldn't recommend as a long term robust hiking solution.

I am very much a Salomon enthusiast and have owned many pairs of their shoes. These however have started to Frey where the fabric meets the toe cap and the insoles don't stay put. Not my favorite product.

Bought these 3 days ago. Tried them on in the store after about 6 other pairs of boots; as soon as I slid my foot inside I wanted them. The fit and amount of cushioning is perfect! The weight is perfect except for one major flaw: when my foot bends upward and the toe box bends the cordura creases and pushes into the tops of my feet pinching uncomfortably. I cannot see myself walking for any aount of time in these especially when walking a steep grade that requires more energy pushing off the tips of your toes. Havent seen any other reviews w this issue so maybe I got a bum pair?

Absolutely gutted, love these boots but both sides have started to wear at the point where the foot bends, rest of the boot is fine. Most comfortable boot I've owned so very disappointed. Previous Salomon boots have always been fine.

The boots that I am trying to replace where a Saloman winter Boot I used then year round and loved them But after miles and miles of use and years being uesd and my feet are getting wider I needed a new boot. After trying every boot on at REI. I decided that these felt the best. But after a few short hikes it was apparent that these boots are too hard on the soles of my feet. Instead of being able to hike 7 to 10 miles with almost no foot pain. It felt like I was strapping a brick to my foot and walking on it. The good thing about these boots is they are very light and have good support for your ankles and they have good traction. Unfortunately they have no cushioning in the sole like an old jungle military boot.

I bought these boots hoping for a lighter weight breathable boot. I've owned many Salomon before and have been happy. I wore them twice. The fit is terrible my foot slides around the boot and it just feels sloppy. They are not breathable even with a wool sock. Contacted Salomon to see if they could help but since I technically wore them I'm out of luck and out $200. Bonus for me I get to keep boots in my closet that don't fit at all. Won't be buying Salomon again.
