Customer Reviews Blundstone BL1609 Classic 550 Chelsea Boot

Looking at all the reviews, I really had a hard time gauging the sizing problem, especially when comparing other brands I wear. The solution is to go to Blundstone website and use their sizing guide. Trace your bare foot on a piece of paper and measure from tip of toe to back of heel. Then convert the measurement using the guide. I measured about 9-7/8" or 251 mm. I like extra width so I ordered the US women 10.5/US men 8.5/AUS 7.5. These arrived in a couple of days and they actually fit perfectly. I really love the wide toebox. I tried them on with medium weight wool socks, first without the extra footbed. Later I changed to lighter weight sock and inserted the extra footbed. They feel great either way. Now that I've worn them a couple of days, they feel good with the extra footbed even with thicker socks. I have big calves so to begin with the upper is a bit tight but after some wear it has loosened up as well. The 1609 Antique Brown is a beautiful chocolate brown. I have scuffed them up already, but I do wear them to work in and around the shop. For other reference sizing, I wear women's 10 in Sorel boots and Nike running, 9.5 in Altra and Hoka running and Danner boots, 9 in Chaco and Birkenstock. As always, Zappos is best at fast shipping and customer service. I will purchase again.

-Size. I wear a US women's size 7.5, and after ordering an AU size 4.5 and it being too small, I sized up to the equivalent of a US women's size 8 in these (AU size 5), which fit well. -Color. I prefer this antique brown color to the walnut as I like the matching stitching color and the walnut is too dark, plus I don't like the contrasting lighter stitching. -Style number. I wanted 550s in antique brown but was unsure if BL 1609s are 550s. I went to Blundstone's website and confirmed that 1609s are indeed 550s, in antique brown.

ORDER LARGER! This appears to be the smallest fitting Blundstone based on my research (thermal + dress boot) and I don't know why Zappos suggests "true to size" + recommends your actual size when it should be 0.5-1 size larger. For example, measurements for a US womens sz 8-9 foot would be a 9.5"-9.9" length foot (based on zappos size chart, other charts tend to say 9.625"-10"L), however the Blundstone size chart lists a US 8-9 =AUS 5-6 =9.33"-9.68". And the 0.5 sizes are the same length (just wider) so you'll need to jump whole sizes if you're looking for more accurate L measurement. As someone who measures a true 8/narrow, the Zappos' recommended AUS 5 seemed fine on despite my big toe feeling much closer to the end than any other 8 I've worn (figured it was the intended fit, Blundstone recommends 0.25" space which is probably what I had). However after walking in them, my feet were cramping up from them actively avoiding rubbing the tip + heel of the boot with each footstep. It felt very off and finding the Blundstone size chart measurements being so off too validated my fit concerns enough to return and size up to an AUS 6/US W 9. Long story short- for classics/originals, ignore the Zappos recommendation and the absurdity of ordering a full 1-1.5 size larger than you're used to, measure your foot and check the Blundstone inch/mm size chart to avoid tedious returns/repurchases (especially since Zappos stock fluctuates so unreliably).

So usually i wear a 7.5. I ordered an 8. I am keeping the 8 because i like my shoes to fit. Not be loose. I also have bunions....they are a little tight there....but the leather is gorgeous, color is awesome and they will certainly stretch. The chelsea boot is a different kind of boot to get used to but i love them and cant wait for them to get better with age.

I sized up to a 7 from my normal 6.5 based on the reviews, but these were too wide. They felt clunky and looked a little funny on my feet because of the width. I'm not sure a smaller size would have worked because the length was fine. These would probably work for someone with wider feet. They are a little difficult to get on and off, but that would likely get easier as they are broken in. I also ordered the Blundstones with the heel and those are a little more narrow and I like the appearance much better.

I had initially purchased the boots in an 81/2. They were too tight with socks on so I returned them for size 9, which are perfect!

There’s another reviewer on here who had similar experience I did. I am a 7 and I need to accept that I will almost be a 7 no matter how much I think a leather boot will stretch. The 6.5 I originally ordered I tried to justify that it would “mold to my feet” but that is just not realistic. It rubbed my heels and made my toes numb and it was too small. I exchanged for a 7 and I couldn’t be happier. Took almost no breaking in. I now have the wear everywhere Chelsea style boots that I wanted. I can’t speak highly enough of Zappos customer service. They are so patient with me and are why I order from here.

On third pair trying to find my size. First tried size 11 (in womens ) by following chart and they were waaay to big. Now I have both a 9 and 10. 9 just a tad bit too small (toes just touching the front of boot). 10 too big. Picture for size difference. The 9s look unisex (good look for men and women), but the 10s get so much wider and look like shoes just for men. I wish they did half sizes. Looks like I have to return them both :( The size 9 (women) are beautiful though!! Wish they fit!!

Careful. The completely wrong shoe was delivered. Color supposed to be antique brown — what was delivered was the walnut color. Size was supposed to be US women’s 8.5. The number on the bottom of the shoe is the AU/UK size - not a women’s 8.5. Returning today. I bet they’ll be awesome when I eventually get the right pair!

I wear a 7.5, so after reading reviews I decided on the US Women’s 8/AU 5. These fit fine with thinner socks. Since I will probably wear these most often with thicker, more cushioned socks, I exchanged for the US Women’s 8.5/AU 5.5. As with most reviews, this also added just a touch of extra width, which is nice. I don’t typically wear wider shoes/boots, but with thicker socks, I would recommend the extra room for fitting. I can also add an orthotic if needed for longer wear. These look great and can’t wait for all the future adventures!

These look cute & seem good quality. The antique brown is a nice darker brown. I wear an 8 usually, sometimes 7 1/2. I ordered the womens US 8 and they are too small. Maybe a 1/2 size to full size too small. I will try the 8.5 & see. The width is wider than the Sorel Emilie chelsea. The extra width is nice if you have foot issues or bunions. There doesn’t seem to be much, if any arch support. I plan on using an orthotic to help with this issue.

I absolutely love my Blundstones! They’re super comfy, they look great and they seem like they will hold up really well over time. I usually wear a 7.5 or 8 but thought I should size up as I intended to wear these with thick socks for hiking in Scotland. I got an 8.5 US/ 5.5 AU and am definitely glad that I sized up. I had ordered a pair of the BL550 model in walnut, also in a 5.5 but oddly couldn’t even get them on my feet. Anyway, they take a bit to wear in but once done, they’re so comfortable! I like that you can hike outdoors with them but they still look nice enough to wear in restaurants and such- it made packing much easier!

The Classic is way more comfortable than the Original! I wear a very average 7.5, with a slightly wide foot, high arches and a high instep. My ankles are a bit on the wide side, too. The Originals never softened up over the top of my foot, and I ended up giving them away. These Classics were comfortable right out of the box, no break-in discomfort. Slightly softer footbed, but still firmly supportive. I wear them all day and they're terrific. Love the Antique Brown. Will be getting another pair for sure.

I finally found them! I have been on a quest for the past few years to find the perfect Chelsea boot and this is it. Super comfortable right out of the box. I tried them with a pair of Dr Marten’s, which were much clunkier looking. I am an 11.5 women’s and I like the fit of the AU9. There is no arch support, but I added a power step insole and it’s great.

These are my first pair of boots with this brand. I normally wear an 8.5 but did order up to a size 9 for my high arch. There is some wiggle room in the toe bed for heavier socks and the 1/2 size larger accommodates my arch. These do need some break-in time. They are comfortable, durable, and quality made boot. Great investment!
