Finally ... a tall boot I can zip up and wear on day one without having to break them in! In the fall, I practically live in tall riding boots. For reference, I'm 5'4" with average length legs, small ankles, and athletic 15.5" calves. 'Wide' or 'extended' boots are generally way too wide on my legs and look ridiculous, so I usually purchase standard width boots and then have to break them in. Every time I buy a new pair of knee high boots, I have to go through the same tedious process of spraying them down with boot stretch spray, sticking them on a boot stretcher for a day or two, and wearing them around until they fit comfortably over jeans. Imagine my delight when I took these boots straight out of the box and zipped them up over a thick pair of thick leggings without any resistance. In addition to the fit, these boots are a gorgeous, classic style without a lot of embellishment. The leather is soft and appears to be good quality. At 16" circumference, these boots aren't too wide and fit my leg nicely ... just as a riding style boot should fit. On me, there is a small gap at the outer top edge of the boot, but not so much that it takes away from the overall streamlined look I prefer. I definitely recommend this style if you have athletic calves, but your overall leg is not large. I am so glad I made this purchase and I'm sure I'll wear the heck out of these boots this season!

This boot is the very first wide calf boot that I have been able to wear. My calves are big due to the way my legs are built. Even after zipping up the boot, I still have room and the boots don’t fall. I did buy 1/2 size larger so I could stretch the width since they don’t come in wide. They fit perfectly after stretching the width across the top of my foot and I can wear them all day long. They are extremely comfortable and look great!!

Cupra's Born brand, tall shaft (even taller in the front), rich brown leather, and great reviews got my attention. The deep, burnished look of the brown leather is just what I was hoping to find. The boot looks and feels well made. The toe box is big enough for fairly thick wool socks on my medium foot and there is ample cushioning and arch support even for my high arches—something I haven’t experienced before in a riding boot. They’re really comfy straight out of the box. I also appreciate the rubber tread on the bottom which will provide both better traction and hopefully longer life of the soles. The only thing I would change is the synthetic lining. Yes, it’s soft and silky, making for easy sliding on and off and might add a little insulation (though synthetics doen’t insulate very well). But my feet respond to anything that doesn’t breathe well by sweating. When I look for shoes on Zappos I usually filter them for breathable or natural-fiber linings. That wasn’t possible with riding boots and it doesn’t really matter because I only found two pairs of brown leather riding boots that fit my other requirements for fit, quality, and style. This was the clear winner, so I can’t be any more picky than that. Wool socks and cool weather should prevent too much damp-foot. I wear a 10B and I have longish legs with 15.5" calves. This has eliminated a lot of riding books from my list of options. But seeing the listed circumference of the regular calf-width of only 141/2" pushed me to look for a wide-calf version. I ordered the latter, which was listed as having a 16" circumference. Sounded perfect. But when it arrived, there was room for me to pull them over regular (not skinny) jeans and still have room for my entire hand extended down my calf. I didn't ever bother trying them on with tights or leggings because I was swimming in them. This is partly because the width of the shaft increases slightly toward the knee. I looked like I was trying to be a swashbuckler. So I ordered the regular calf size. These are snug over jeans, but comfortable and they look tall and trim on my 5’9”-145-lb frame. Very excited to start wearing these. In short, these are true wide-calf boots, so if you're on the margin, the regular width might be ample enough.

Bummer. I can't wear this boot because the shaft is too high (I'm 5'2" tall) so I'll have to return it. Everything else about the book was perfect.

I love these boots. They are super comfortable and I can walk in them forever. The calves are wider than I was expecting so they do gap at the top of my 16” calves. The toe is a tiny bit pointier than I would have liked, but that’s a style issue more than a comfort issue.

The shoes look amazing and will be a present for my spouse. I know they fit perfectly; because I was out with her when she tried them on but decided not to buy them because of the price. She has full legs so the wide calf will allow her mini tree trunks to fit comfortably lol. No, seriously she does have thick calves and only this brand seems to fit her. I'm excited to give them to her as a gift

After trying what seems dozens in varying styles, brands, and sizes I finally have a WINNER! Although it was difficult to get to this point, I am glad I persisted. And thanks, Zappo, for all that free shipping. I did go up half a size in these but was able to stick to the M width. I am wearing a medium weight sock. The leather is really beautiful and the lining is soft and feels like it will wear well. My feet are cozy and comfy in these. The wide calf works well on my wide calfs and I think most people will find that true. Have been wearing them around the house all day and I forget that I have new shoes on. Still, would break them in more if planning to walk a long distance. Others I have tried are La Canadienne, Rockport, Trotters...

Very pleased with these boots! My calves are 16 inch circumference and I can wear these over my jeans comfortably without them being overly wide or too snug. I generally wear either an 8 wide or 8.5 medium and the 8.5 medium in this boot fits perfectly. Very comfortable right out of the box. These were a good investment.

These boots are the most comfortable boots I have ever worn! My calves are definitely athletic - 15 3/4". I was concerned the calf circumference may be too wide at 16", but they fit like a glove and look great with leggings, skirts, and jeans! And they are soooo comfortable! I have worn them most every day since receiving them!

I LOVE these boots! They are my first pair of tall leather boots. The leather is so soft and they feel great on. I am very pleased with this purchase!

The wide calf isnt really wider just has a belt in back you can undo

So far, Born's are the most elegant of all the knee high black boots I've tried from Zappos as I try to replace my beloved Ecco's (why no more wide calf Ecco?). Leather is excellent quality, nice & soft (but not bulky) lining. I'm 5'2" and they hit right below my knee - would be perfect for someone just a couple inches taller. Unfortunately, my narrow heels slip too much, and there isn't enough room across the toes for an insert which would help both the slippage and provide better support for my high arches. Very sad to send these back because they looked great on.

These are really beautiful with a pretty color and soft leather. The calf circumference said 16 inches and I they were way too large, but my Born Mayall boots say 16” and they fit great. I am returning and ordering the regular calf width to see if they fit.

Overall the fit is great except in my upper legs area its a bit to wide for the look I like so I will be returning. Outside of that the item feels great.

The boot is gorgeous and fit true to size. I'm a 7.5 or sometimes an 8, and the 7.5 fit perfectly. The calf was tight on me when wearing tights, so there's no way I'd be able to zip up with jeans. Sadly, I'll have to return them and continue my years-long search of the right knee-high leather boot for thick calves. If I had a smaller calf I would definitely keep these boots.

This boot was pretty good, and fit my 16.5" calf well. It flared a bit at the top, but would have been a keeper had I not tried on a pair of Earth boots the same day at a local shoe store. I decided I liked the Earths better, so will be returning these. Other than that, they are comfy and seem very well made.

They are lovely boots, and the boot itself is true to size; however, the calf was much too wide at the top for my 15" calves.

I tried this in both the wide and narrow- I am 5'1". Shaft was too tall for me. Struggled to zip up the narrow over my (we'll call them athletic) calves. The Wide shaft was a great boot, just too tall- the top was not snug to my leg- they kinda of stuck out. I did not like that at all. I will wait for Born to come up with something like this that is meant for shorter people. Maybe in a round toe as well. I prefer that.

I have had BORN wide calf boots before and they fit perfect. Lately it seems they run a little more narrow in the foot & heel, and overall width. The shaft doesn't seem as wide either. Lastly, the leather seems a bit this & dull for the price point, not that it's cheap looking but it seemed a little stiff. I'll keep searching for a pair of wide calf boots that are good quality leather and (classic) fashionable (read not too many bells & whistles).

Very disappointed with these boots. The heel has this very thin coating on it. Not sure if I hit my heel on a stair but a found a big dig on the back of a heel after the first time I wore them. I was not walking anywhere where I would have thought this would happen. The “leather” thin coating had pulled away and the white plastic heel was showing. I was so mad at myself I had unpacked the boots, tried them on and I had thrown away the box. If I had not thrown away the box I would have returned them. I have filled in the divit with a sharpie and will use them as my throw on boots this winter. Not what I expect from Born. Much better experience with the Ralph Lauren boots from two years ago the heals still look fine unfortunately they were not available this year.
