READ THIS ENTIRE REVIEW: I had my eye on these boots for a long time, but I was concerned about all the reviews about heel slippage. I finally decided I had to try them for myself. Sure enough, right out of the box the heel slipped so bad! I packed them back up to return, thinking what a pity because the boots are gorgeous. BUT THEN, as I was searching for another pair of boots to replace these, I came across a very helpful review on the Veronica Short style. As the reviewer mentions, if you do a quick internet search on proper fit for a pull-on style cowboy boot, you’ll see that the heel SHOULD slip – this is actually an indication of a good fit. When the boot is new, the soles are quite stiff but over time as they become more pliable, the heel slippage should reduce. Also, as the boot molds to your foot, your heel should sink in creating a snug fit in the heel. I decided to unpack the boots again and wear them an entire day indoors. As the heat from my foot warmed the boot, the leather started to soften around my foot like butter and I could already feel my heel sinking into the sole. By the end of an entire day of indoor wear, the heel slippage was reduced by about half. Encouraged, I decided to bite the bullet and wear them outside for a walk. The sole was so stiff and I could feel my calves having to work at it while I was walking! But again, as the heat from my foot softened the boot, I could feel the sole gradually becoming more pliable. And here is the crazy part: as the sole started to bend, the boot started to “roll” with my step and lifted up with my heel on each step, reducing the heel slip even more! And as my heel molded deeper into the sole, it sort of “grabbed” the boot to my foot helping the sole move along with me. I know that sounds weird, but it’s true. After a week of wearing them, the slip was hardly even noticeable anymore. It just gets better and better with time. Buying a high-quality boot like this requires a little more patience and commitment than a normal comfy-out-of-the-box boot, but it is SO WORTH IT. Do some research, be prepared to commit to break-in period and I promise you won’t regret it! These boots are sure to be one of the best pairs of boots I’ve ever owned.

Fit was okay. Poor quality material compared to past Frye boots. I have bought Frye boots for a very long time now -- maybe 20+ years. My oldest pair was not even repairable any longer which was incredible since the boots had new soles and heels over a twenty year period. So, I ordered the Veronica Bootie which was the closest style to what I had been wearing. I was so struck by the change in quality of Frye boots. Mine had been made in Mexico. The new boots were made in India. The leather was totally different and not what I associate with "Frye", at least not until now. The leather was much thinner and of an inferior quality. I like the thicker leather and the chunkier feel of a boot. So anyway, I was disappointed and sent them back. This review may not be important to many if you are new to the boot. But, if over the years you have had the boot made in Mexico, you may notice a real difference. Hope this helps.

I am grateful for the other reviews about the heel. It does slip a bit but the rest of the boot fits perfectly so I was hesitant to order down. I normally wear a 7.5 to 8; and with boots more like a size 8. I ordered an 8 in these and they fit great except the loose heel. After wearing a very short time inside (warm boot/warm foot), I could feel it change and cup my foot....it's happening. I have a narrow to medium foot.
This was exactly what I was looking for with a distressed bootie for casual....one I will wear for years.

After reading reviews I was highly hesitant to consider ordering this beautiful shoe. Your excellent rep convinced me to try for myself. Yes, heel slips some, but I tightened the strap and instantly it diminished. I have a narrow foot and this fits well. I take a 9 or 9.5 or sometimes even 10 and the 9 is just right. The leather is gorgeous, tan. It does not look distressed (or at least it did not tell me it was :)).
Most reviewers said that it took serious breaking in, so far not for me. I really have no great desire to take them off, but will not wear outside until completely secure after some days. My one objection is that they are made in India and I wanted made in Mexico (kind of USA for Frye), but they are beautiful and you kind of have to trust Frye to know what they are doing. I will not buy made in China and would have gone back if that were the case, no matter what. They measure up the same as my 9.5 and 10 sized shoes, so they run on the larger side and a 9.5 would have been too big and probably too wide. I hope this is not too many words, but.....if it helps good, if not so be it. :)

Depending on shoe style, I am sometimes able to wear a size 9 and sometimes need a 9 1/2, so I tried both sizes in the Frye Veronica. I also have a wide foot, even post bunion surgery, which always complicates things. The size 9 1/2 was too big, especially if it stretched at all, though I appreciated the extra width. In the end I kept the size 9 and opted to stretch them to make them slightly wider. The leather on these boots is soft and supple, (unlike a lot of the other Frye boots) and this seems to be working for me. So far I have only warn them around the house to break them in, so I haven't put many miles on them. I love the style, and the arch support is good for me. I usually need pretty good arch support.

Sadly, these were pretty disappointing. I have several pairs of Frye boots, all size 9, and these ran about a half size small. Worse than that though is the description of the color and distressing. I ordered the Full Grain Black Brush Off because I liked the broken in, scuffed up look and the pair I received didn't have a scratch on them. They are also brown with some odd mottling on them but they are definitely not black. At all. Come on Frye; you can do better.

I own the Veronica Shortie, same model but the top is higher. I wanted to share what I found out about the heel problem. I was going to return them but I found out that if I buckled the strap a little tighter there was no longer any heel problem! I can wear them all day without any problem, very comfortable. My advice: don't forget to play with the buckle to get the perfect fit!

LOVE THESE BOOTS! There was a short break in period but after about 3-4 days of wearing to an office job they are so comfortable. I'm usually a 9.5, sometimes a 10 and the 9.5 feels great.
The Stone Washed Oiled Vintage color was very different in real life - no distressing or color variations at all. I sent them back and got the Black Full Grain Brush Off color and love it. It tends more towards black/brown than true black, which is perfect for what I wanted.

As a proud owner of half a dozen or more Frye boots and shoes, acquired over many years, I splurged yet again on these booties and am quite pleased. I ordered my usual 71/2 that felt quite snug and difficult to pull on, as other reviewers also mentioned. I cruised around the house a bit and they seemed to loosen up. I did order a size 8 for comparison and they were definitely too big. So I took the plunge and went for a 21/2 mile walk with my dog! The boots feel great, will take a little more time for break in but they seem very sturdy and well made and... so cute!

Maybe it's just me, but I always use a boot/shoe horn to put on my boots so I don't break down the backs. I had no problem getting these boots on that way. (Yep, I even have a shortie shoe horn that I keep with me in case I need to put them back on while at work, etc.). That said, it would be very frustrating trying to get them on without a metal boot/shoe horn. These boots re extremely comfortable!!

I've wanted to purchase these boots for some time now. Finally, did it! I am very happy with the size, they run a bit narrow however widen with time. My foot is wide so most boots feel narrow. My heel slips as others have mentioned but this is common with a boot and is not bothersome or painful. Even though the heel slips the shoe does not feel too big as one may expect when you hear this complaint. The worn leather is really nice. Boots are easy to get on and off. They are classic and versatile. I can wear them with anything and are adorable with sundress....you will not regret this purchase!

These are some bad a** boots. After reading reviews, I ordered a half-size down. They were too narrow in the forefoot to wear a regular sock (tried with very thin ones) and loose in the heel. My heels slipped so much in them that they were red and raw just wearing them around the house. I returned and ordered my usual size. It took a couple of wears to break in the forefoot, but now that I can wear the shoes with regular or even thicker socks, I have very little slipping in the heel. I wouldn’t run a marathon in them, but I’ve worn them all day and had no problems with rubbing or blisters on my heels.

Returning this boot because the soft leather at the top came very rumpled and wrinkled. It was so significant I didn’t want to wear them even once with the hope the leather work would straighten out. I tried working the ripples out with my fingers and stuffed them with rolled towels, letting them to sit for over a week. They look exactly the same as the day they arrived. I’m very disappointed because otherwise, I think these would be great boots. These are expensive boots in my opinion, but the wrinkles makes them look cheap. Photo attached

Loved loved loved this boot but they need to make it in a wide width. Tried a size up and a size down but just too narrow for the stiff lower part of the boot.

Love the pull on style and high quality leather. Unfortunately these were very narrow in the toe area and much too large in the heel. Unfortunately they didn’t work for me or my daughter who has a more narrow foot.

I have the veronica in tall in black and brown, size 8.5. Love them, can walk all day in them. Decided it might be nice to have a short pair. The 8.5 was too big. When I matched the short pair up with my tall pair, they were 1/4-inch longer. Zappos has amazing customer service, so no problem returning and reordering a size 8. The length was perfect, but I just couldn’t keep them on my feet. I have a high arch, but a low instep so I put a 3/4 insert in all my Frye boots and still couldn’t keep these on. So bummed : (

I have several pairs of Frye boots and was excited for these. I usually am a solid side 9 but size up a half size with Frye. I ordered these in the Redwood color and was disappointed that they weren’t as reddish in person as they are in the photos- see my pic. My heel slips a little bit but I like clunky boots and will add some inserts if necessary. I don’t dislike the brownish color enough to send them back, just wish they were a little more red. Style is very cute. The leather around the ankle area seems a little over waxy but the residue wipes off. Also, disappointed to see these were made in India and not in Mexico like my previous Fryes. The leather quality has decreased over the years.

I am so disappointed, I usually wear a 9.5 or 10 and have a wide foot, I ordered these in a 10 and couldn't get the boot on my foot. There is no zipper, no tabs to help pull the boot while you stuff your foot in, and it seemed to get hung up at my instep. It seemed like my foot should have fit into the bottom, but couldn't get my foot in far enough to be able to press my heel in.They look amazing and I've been wanting a pair for so long, I really wanted to love these.

I am shocked by how small these were. I normally wear a size 9 so was worried they would be too big at a 9.5. I could hardly squeeze my foot into them. I worry they mislabeled a size 7 as a 9.5. What is going on with Frye?!

LOVE these booties—the leather is gorgeous and for me the fit was perfect—enough room to insert a “half” arch support, and even wear thicker socks. There’s a little bit of heel slippage but it is in no way bothersome—it just feels like the boot is built that way. These are gorgeous with jeans and leggings—I have been building outfits around them to wear them as often as I can!

Smaller and more narrow at the ankle than expected based on the reviews. I could not get the boot over my ankle, I will be sending them back.

This boot is AWESOME! I have the taller version, which is the disc boot, and wanted something a bit shorter. I LOVE my disc boots so I was hoping to love these just the same. YES, MA’AM...THESE ARE FABULOUS! As with my disc boots I knew I had to break these in as well. Took only a day of walking around my house and they formed my foot perfectly. It’s going to be a great autumn with these boots and skinny jeans!

OH I am so bummed out! These just came and I knewI was taking a chance on the size 8: right foot is just right left foot has a bunion and the boot is so very painful on that foot. The gray metallic is just what I was looking for.... I have Ariat ropers in 7.5 C (wide) and they fit great but plain black & brown. I wish Frye made wide width boots....because the styles and colors are just what I want. I previously returned the Veronica Harness boot, same problem.

First, let me say that these boots are beautiful and well-made.
The problem, and why I am returning them, is that the right boot feel as if it's a half size smaller than the left. I have other Frye boots and I've never had this problem before!
It's really a shame.
The customer service rep suggested having it stretched at the shoe repair; my thought is that, while a good idea, shoes should fit well and not have such large discrepancies in size.

These boots are cute but not comfortable. They are slim fitting and run small. I’m always a 7.5 in all my Frye boots but I had to exchange for an 8 in these. the 8 fit but I decided to return based on the thin soles and that the topper leather liked cheaper and crinkles when you pull them on. The leather around the ankle is nice quality but the topper is not the same. Unfortunately a dip in quality seems to be a trend with Frye boots these days.
