I had mixed feelings about this shoe. I liked the support it gave, although I found it more comfortable with a less arched innersole from a pair of Altra Paradigm 3.0’s I own. That was surprising, because I have flat feet and am always adding arch support, not making it less. The stability control and the raised inside edge of the heel is so good in this shoe that the pronating associated with flat feet was greatly helped even without the included arched innersole. Where the shoe fell short for my purposes was that it was less cushioned than I liked. The insole I replaced it with was more cushioned, which definitely helped, but not as cushioned as my Paradigm 3.0’s. To clarify, I use these as everyday shoes for walking, not running, and I keep them on for probably 6 hours a day. I have an energetic young puppy and use them for walking him at least two hours a day, and the rest of the time i have them on I’m on a tile floor. My hunch is unless you’re in need of a lot of cushioning most people would find the cushioning in these sufficient.
For the sake of comparison in terms of fit, if anyone happens to be familiar with the Paradigm 3.0, the Provision’s run larger. I have both in 8.5 and my Paradigms are so short I can barely fit even the thinnest sock in them. Also for comparison, the toe box in the Provisions isn’t as roomy as that in the Torin 3.0 (although the Torins offered zero support, even with the well arched Aetrex innersole canted for over pronaters),

This shoe has a shorter overall height than other Altras and when I put in my orthotics, the sides of the shoe were too low.

Disappointed that shoe is already falling apart and I’ve only run a total of 10-20 miles (no terrain running)

I rated this moderate for arch support, but for pronating feet, this shoe has excellent support to mitigate pronation. I could feel this support as soon as I put the shoe on. So, overall the support is excellent. The wide toe box, which does not force toes into an unnatural position, is another aid to comfort and stability. I really, really like this shoe. Even with the good comfort features, the shoe looks trim, and it is styled very well. It does have the bumper heel of athletic shoes, but I feel it is fine for everyday wear around town which makes it a versatile shoe. I bought it for wearing at the gym--it is supposed to be a running shoe, but I don't run--but already I've worn it several days in a row just living my life. If you are looking for a supportive, comfortable and stylish athletic shoe, I can't recommend this too highly. It is a great shoe--one of the best I've bought anywhere for my difficult feet. And now a couple of minor things for Altra to fix: the shoe is hard to get on a foot and the laces are about an inch too short and they come untied sometimes. Other than that--they are a great shoe. I'm wearing my pair right now.

This is the 3rd pair of provision Altras I have ordered. The last 2 pair were 9.5 but 3.0 version. This pair was 9.5 but 3.5 new version and they are too big. Now I need to order a 9.0, see how they fit and return one pair. Unfortunate ALtra changed the sizing

Unfortunately Altra changed the paradigm shoes to be too narrow with the newest model. I tried switching to these and they are still too narrow in the arch and toe box and the material is stiff on these and when I push off it rubs on my upper tox box area. Will sadly have to return them.

I have a bad ankle and a bunion and I need good support. I had been wearing the Altra Paradigm for one and a half years (I know that's way too long to wear one pair of shoes). I emailed Altra and asked them what would be the best shoe for my foot problems. They suggested the Paradigm or the Provision. So I decided to try the Provision this time and it's great! It provides me with enough toe room for my bunion and enough ankle support. My orthotic fits well inside. I am very pleased with my purchase.

Just bought my third pair! These are rear athletic shoes and good for just walking around and being active. The black color definitely looks more hip than the grey or blue I had previously. I love the room in the toe box. I get many good months out of each pair - like a year of wearing virtually every day. Really worth it.

I usually wear 1 size up in my Altra Torins and these Provisions are the same. I can feel a real difference when it comes to overpronating in these shoes-these definitely keep my feet from turning inward which none of the previous Altra shoes I've worn in the past have done.I am not a runner but have worn Altra shoes for work for about 5 years/ working in healthcare on my feet constantly. I really appreciate the toe box as I have really bad feet and toes.Love these!

If you're a person who "over-pronates", you wear out your shoes on the inside of your foot rather than the back (neutral pronation) or the outside of your foot (under-pronation) these are the shoes for you. I'm fairly neutral, so I noticed right away that these wouldn't be good for me. They're REALLY comfortable though, so I'm going to look for a different Altra shoe. There's room for your toes! And the Zero Drop feels wonderful!

I'm on my third pair of Altras. I always size up from 8.5 to 9 and the fit is perfect right out of the box. A well made, comfortable shoe.

I like these shoes. I love the roomy toe. The fit feels true to size, I am a 9. However the heel slips a little bit. The insoles are removable for another insert. Thumbs up.

I love these shoes. I have a hard time finding shoes that fit. I've had ankle problems and my ankle has been fused. I love the zero drop Altra Provision 3.5 for this reason. Very supportive shoe for my pronation problem too. I wish they offered them in a wider selection of colors.

I need to update a previous review I wrote regarding the Altra Provision 3.5. The company suggests it is best worn without an orthotic due to how it is constructed for overpronators. A heel cup would be okay though to add into the shoe, for example. The Powerstep Pinnacle Plus doesn't work well in this shoe. The first Altra shoe I ever wore was the Provision(ess). After being away from it from a few years, I am now back to this old familiar foot friend. A previous review mentioned perhaps sizing down a half size from your regular Altra size. Thank goodness for that review! The reviewer seems to be correct. I just sized down a half size. Back to the size I first wore with this Altra shoe. Like both the black and the grey versions. Thanks Altra! Thanks Zappos! Happy feet everyone!

I have been wearing Altra shoes for five plus years. The orthopedic foot surgeon recently suggested the Powerstep Pinnacle Plus orthotic insert (which you can also purchase here on Zappos). The first Altra shoe I ever wore was the Provision. The combo of the Provision plus the Powerstep Pinnacle Plus may just be that new awwwwwwwwwwwwwwww moment for my myself and especially my feet! Thanks Zappos!

I love the wide toe box these shoes offer. There's definitely no lack of room in the toe box area so that your toes stay happy throughout the entire duration when wearing these shoes. However these shoes offer more stability than a neutral shoe. It is immediately noticeable and I would compare it to the Brooks Adrenaline and maybe the Brooks Beast or Brooks Ariel. They almost felt more of a motion control shoe. That is the only reason I return the shoes. Because I didn't need the stability these shoes offered. But if you're looking for a great stability shoe definitely try these out!

This is a perfect shoe for me...in men's size 7. I wear a women's 8 to 8.5 in a shoe that runs to wide and Altras do not. After trying several styles I ordered first the Provision 2 in a men's 7 and it was wonderful. I tried again with women's size when Altra went to Provision 2.5--still too narrow but the men's...yes! So today I'm ordering my 5th pair of these shoes but not in women's sizes. I'm an over-pronator and I also need the wide toe box. I don't have orthotics but the arch support and stabilizer are enough to keep my feet happy in day-to-day activity. I'm not a runner but for walking and everyday wear I love these shoes. I'd like to see Altra offer a wide option in a women's shoe but till then I'll keep buying these black Provisions from the men's department.

I needed a new shoe to fit my custom orthotics and to help get my foot back to running shape. I had to take some time off from running due to posterior tendonitis. If anyone has had this, you know the deal. I had to take at least 6-8 weeks off from running in order for the tendonitis flare up to go down. I knew i wanted to have a shoe that would give me the support and the zero-drop design paired with the intuitive fit so that my feet had enough room to splay while running was essential! I chose these to get me back to running. I've felt wonderful! They fit my orthotics great and from anywhere from quick 1 mile runs, to tempo runs, and stair climbs to my long runs, these have fit the bill! Way togo Altra! :)

These are the most comfortable shoes I have ver owned from Altra. I have a fallen arch and my feet over pronate and these helped tremendously!! As always the ZeroDrop and FootShape are amazing and are the reason I will only stick with Altra as my shoes!! These shoes work great for road and some light trails. I always feel supported in these shoes and get excited to put them on!! Thank you Altra for your best shoe!!

Great shoes for running or everyday use. Gives lots of support plus they're light weight. Does require some breaking in time with the stiffness, but they just get better and better with each mile, and the stability and traction is amazing. My husband wishes they had the same silver color scheme for the male version.

Finally - a comfortable, supportive shoe in WHITE for the summer! I was so tired of all the flashy neon and dark colored shoes available in the zero drop shoes. The shoelaces and soles are bright but that I can live with. I have lots of foot issues including neuromas. This has been one of the most comfortable so far in the month's time I've worn them.

I have overpronation issues and battle sore toenails after long runs so I have been looking for a running shoe that helps with both of these things. A friend who hikes long miles wears Altra shoes and told me to try them--I am hooked! I often run on both road and trail and I was able to keep the little rocks out of my shoes that come from trail running. I like the weight and the structure. My one complaint would be lack of variety in colors for the shoe.

I was in need of supportive shoes for my over-pronation. My old shoes were wearing thin and every time I would wear them, my knees would hurt. These shoes are not the prettiest on the market, but I could immediately feel the support. If you pronate, these shoes are great!
