I have used 3 pairs of these shoes over the past two years doing 50km, 50 milers and 100 km races. Great overall shoe for varying conditions and dries out quickly after river crossings. My concern is the durability of the upper on rocky terrain. It has ripped open on all 3 pairs I have used.

This is probably the most stable Salomon I've had, and offers more support than the sense line (both ride and pro). It's still light and agile. My only concern is on the support wings on the side, I like the added support and feel, but within my first few miles on the trails I already had mini rocks and pieces of wood stuck in the wings. Also, the added elements in the upper make the Salomon lacing system harder to adjust. Too much going on for me. Still a nice shoe that I will keep and use for a while, but probably won't buy until hopefully they get rid of the wings in the next edition.

I've used these for several thousand miles of cycling and rugged bikepacking. For flat/platform pedals with aggressive pedal spikes while spending hours crossing streams, pushing a bike up mountainsides, this is the best shoe I have found. I have bikepacked across New Mexico and Arizona numerous times with these including 100+ degree desert, dust-choked forest roads, and rocky singletrack in the alpine. These are stiff for power transfer, but flexible enough to walk around in, the lugs and flat sole are great for engagement with the pedals with litte/no slip, and the bottom material is tough enough that they haven't been torn to shreds by pedals studs. I also appreciate the quick-laces which mean they won't get stuck in pedals and the lack of waterproofing is always preferred for breathability and adaptability. My feet are wide (Altras are what I use for backpacking), but I found these decent for my bikepacking without feeling too narrow. Improvements could be making a wider version, increasing last/sole width for better pedal engagement, and maybe more mesh for even better dry times after water and mud submersion.

Although I am a fairly serious trail runner and ultra distance runner, I have to admit I only bought these shoes for their looks (Speedcross is my go-to for trail running). I use these ones for travel, shopping, getting lattes, and otherwise chillin' in the trendy parts of town. I got the red ones, and they go well with my stylin' hoody and track pants. So far, no blisters.

These are my go-to long distance shoe I've done a number of ultras wearing the Ultra Pro and they are always up to the challenge. Room for the foot to swell slightly, good protection underfoot (rocky terrain isn't an issue) and good grip on technical terrain. However, I feel like these shoes fall apart slightly on wet mud and boggy conditions (i.e. UK during late autumn to early spring). The Ultra Pro lacks lug depth which means I can't get any good purchase on slippery mud my feet just slide all over the place. I recently ran in Scotland (December) and although it was relatively dry, I felt like I was running on ice because of the lack of traction on muddy sections. Therefore, I wouldn't agree with the description that the Ultra Pro is good for "all types" of terrain. That said, no trail shoe is perfect for all conditions. These are definitely suited to drier and more technical surfaces, whereas a Speedcross is better for those muddy adventures.

After running in the Sense Pro Max, I decided to try out these Ultra Pros. Overall I really like the shoes, there are a couple tweaks I'd love to see, but for the most part these are now my favorite shoe to run in. The sole and traction is great on all of the conditions here in Colorado. Though many don't like Speed Laces, I'm a huge fan for a snug fit and the ability to tuck the laces away in the garage. The only two quibbles I have are the lower profile in the end of the toe box and when I first put on the shoes the heel cup feels small initially. After running for a mile or so the shoes seem to "open up" a little and there's plenty of room in the toe box and the heel settles in. But when I first put them on at the store, I was pretty concerned that the heel was certainly not going to work. I've done several 15 mile runs in them and haven't had any issues so far. Once the upper gets more formed to your foot, they are very comfortable and have just the right cushion for trail feel while not beating you up. I'm really looking to see how they do for the 30+ mile days in a month or so, as I'm still building my mileage back up. I've become a big fan of Salomon shoes the last few years, and I'm looking forward to getting a couple more pairs of the Ultra Pro to knock out some big miles and adventures this year.

These are the best all around trail runner that I've used from Salomon. They are comfortable out of the box and a little wider in the toe box compared to other models that I've worn. The have have a good feel and responsiveness to them so they are great for shorter runs as well as hold up over longer runs. The only room for improvement is that I wish the tread was more grippy as we get a lot of wet terrain where I run. I wore three pairs of these as I trained for competed in two 50km races in the summer of 2019 and the shoes held up well. Will buy these again.
