Once you realize that this one jacket can replace 3-4 other jackets then the price seems much more reasonable. First, it's the only noticeably breathable waterproof layer I own. I have many Gore-Tex layers, and in my heart I believe they vent better than other options, but they usually don't *feel* that way when I'm exerting myself, they just feel hot. Shakedry vents much better and more quickly, and this is absolutely noticeable when running. But then this jacket also insulates a bit better than anything that's at least 2x its weight, so on very cold day, this jacket can stand-in for a thicker, heavier outer layer. The sleeves can cover my frozen, clenched fists if I forget my gloves, and the hood can keep my head warm if I forget my hat. Then this jacket is also a windbreaker, so it's perfect on a stupidly gusty day. And finally, it's seriously waterproof, so it works well as the lightest and most packable rain layer possible. When I go backpacking for the weekend and I need to plan for running in some combination of cold, wet and windy weather, I can bring one single jacket that covers all the bases, and it packs down smaller than a can of soda and weighs virtually nothing. This is my desert island jacket. It is more versatile than any other layer I own.

Had this jacket only a short while , has proven to be totally waterproof, extremely light weight, has become my favourite bit of running kit .

This jacket line has the potential to be expanded. I hope Arcteryx will consider adding a jacket with hand pockets. I also hope that Arcteryx will consider adding rain pants to this outstanding UL line to increase its depth as well. Thanks for delivering this outstanding jacket offering!

It works great in my Hawaii trip where it may rain at any time. The jacket is So light and small that I can carry every day.

I bought the Norvan SL Hoody a few months ago and it quickly became my favorite Arc'teryx product. The Gore-Tex with Shakedry tech. is so thin you hardly notice anything when wearing/carrying this jacket. Super light, extremely breathable, well done Arc'teryx!

I was contemplating the Norvan SL vs Norvan SL insulated. I used this almost every single day this winter for trail, road, and track running. So lightweight that you forget it's there, but keeps you completely dry, and warm from heavy winds. I live in North Vancouver, and I'm happy I didn't get the insulated version. I'd say you only need the insulated if you're running in weather colder than -5c. I warm up pretty quickly once I'm actually running, so I'd just change base layers depending on temperature.

Bought this for the wet weather but ended up using it throughout the Ontario winter. Great piece that kept the weather off.

I've had this for a few months and i can't get over how good this jacket is. I read other reviews prior to purchase and took the risk despite the 'zipper issue'. In my experience, having ran for up to an hour in torrential rain the zipper didn't leak at all. Again, only my experience of running in Northern UK but this holds up exceptionally to the weather. The cut is athletic, so if you're carrying a few extra winter lbs be aware of this. Otherwise, the sizing is correct. The jacket absolutely billows sweat away when you're working hard, again the gore-tex doing its job well. Seams are all taped and you can see the care taht has went in to making this garment. All in, the best running jacket i've ever owned

Bought in time for rain season in Vancouver. Repels the rain easily, and I don't feel like a sauna on the inside.
It's mildly noisy if you're running w/o headphones, but its light and easy to move in.
the only thing I personally would have liked, was a small plastic clip on the inside hem so I could attach the stow away bag. This jacket has no pockets, hence I never have the stow bag on me if I need it.

Bought this 2 months ago!!!! Simply amazing, as a trail runner weight is everything and this is my go to..... packs crazy small, and this cuts wind and keeps you dry!!!! Only downside I would say is price but get what you pay for and it is delicate so gotta be carful on trees and sharp rock

Finally a shell that lives up to all the claims. On my first rainy run it was light, breathable and completely waterproof. And at the end I literally shook it dry. I'm 5' 10" 200lbs and the fit is perfect.

I've had one ot these since 2017 and been very happy with it. I live in Denmark, where the weather is usually wet and windy - so i use it a lot. I've been running for +20 years and this is by far the best running jacket, i've ever had. Last month i did around 300 kilometers. All of them in the Norvan.
Because its so light and packable it usually bring it with me in case the weather turns sour or i have to bike home later. Its pretty neutral in the design i have no problem using it as a casual jacket as well. My girlfriend steals it whenever she can for the same reasons.
For all the use it has seen, it remains in great condition.
I do have a few suggestions:
* A strap (not sure its the proper word in english) in the neck, so its easier to hang the jacket. The hood works, but it would just be more neat - and probably just 1-2 ekstra grams
* A build in bag for stowage like the one i have on my Cerium SL vest
* Interior pocket that can hold a modern phone. You've probably done this already
Thanks again for an amazing product.

I cannot stress enough - this is the most fantastic product I have purchased in 2020. During the pandemic, it is not possible to use the gym. So, how does one workout when it is raining and windy? Simple solution: Norman SL Hoody. When I wear it as a top layer, I feel like Superman/Batman/Incredible Hulk all in one. I can feel Mother Nature around me. I feel dry and warm at the same time. This is the product to get - if running everyday is important to you. At first, I was not sure if I could purchase an expensive shell which did not have a pocket. But, it is totally fine. It makes the product light-weight. The hood is excellent - completely wraps my Calvus cap. I supplement with Venta gloves. I was comfortable in fall and now am all set for winter. Happy holidays!

I bought this jacket in the summer leading up to the fall rainy months. I ended up wearing it on cooler evening hikes and bike rides. This lightweight flick dry Gore is amazing at shedding water but also breathes super well, which is incredibly important for uphill biking in the rain. I used to get soaked from sweat in heavier weight Gore jackets. The price is high but worth every cent!

I bought this a month ago after it was released a year or two ago. Finally pulled the trigger to buy it after the new colour options - Aeroponic is so sleek and a subtle colour. It is so much lighter and more breathable than my old Norvan jacket. When I wore the old jacket, my back would be drenched in sweat after that made me uncomfortable after my run. With this SL, my back is hardly sweating and I feel so free in my runs in the rain. My hood is also perfectly trimmed and comfortable so I can listen to music while I run and it's never blocking my sight.

Minimalist design. So it's not great for storage or anything. But light right and breathable rain coat, it does great. Fits long in the sleeves and torso which is nice and appreciated as in 6'3"

I've commuted with this jacket and a backpack 4-5 days a week throughout the winter season and there are no signs of wear on the shoulders or around the waist. I'm very impressed with how it's held up as I've used it hiking, backpacking and mountain biking as well. Also, given the jacket's smooth surface, it doesn't snag on things
However, a fall or a tree branch could easily puncture a hole in it.
The only flaw I could find was the non-stretchable reflective strips on the stretchable cuffs. This caused the reflective strips to break apart.

This is a great piece of gear as expected from Arc'teryx. There are other options when it comes to rain/ technical gear but you really do "get what you pay for", it is expensive but you get the top of the line materials and best of all the athletic cut of this jacket allows you to move freely. You simply will not find another goretex shake dry that compares. I literally ordered them all to try, Gore wear sells a similar "shake dry" but don't plan to be active in it...
I am 6' and 165lbs, I ordered a medium and it fits great, I ordered this to keep in my golf bag for the unexpected rain or wind. Being that I only plan to put this on over an athletic golf shirt, I chose the medium since I don't plan to layer underneath although I have with a light mid-layer.
If you plan to use this in colder weather and share a similar build as me, I would opt for a large. I like the jacket so much I will most likely order a large as well for a ski jacket layering system!

Review for Zappos VIP Points(What's this?)
I love this lightweight running jacket! I will also use it as an emergency back up in my back pack for a couple of hiking trips I have planned this spring. I am a large, and found this jacket fits true to size.

This jacket has exceeded all my expectations. When I unpacked the jacket I was suprised by the substantial feel of the jacket. At 120 grams I expected a much thinner material but it feels quite durable. This is the first waterproof jacket that really keeps me dry when moving at a steady sustained pace. It is totally waterproof, the shakedry works as advertised and it is quite cool to shake of the water droplets. The zipper issues with the previous version seems fixed with the addition of a subtle windflap so no leakage there.
Fit is trim, I am 180 cm and a medium fits met perfect witht sufficient room for a light layer.
I can't stop being impressed with this jacket. Compliments to Arc'teryx for designing such a focussed product, finally a rain jacket with no pockets! For me this is a non compromise high performance piece which excells in conditions where I always struggled to get it right and never really stayed dry.
The only issue with the Norvan SL is the size of the hood. Even cinched up at the back the hood is still too big for my medium sized head which is annoying in a headwind (I have the same issue with the Incendo Hoody).
This is by far one of my more exciting gear purchases and it is a pleasure to use, makes going out in the rain enjoyable. That alone is worth the high price tag to me.
