Had the jacket for 3 months, and so far I have mainly used for dog walks, out in Victoria BC we see a significant amount rainfall this jacket has held up superbly to all weather conditions, and has kept me bone-dry by the end of our walks (up to 2-3 hours at time), and have found the pit zips perfect for venting while we lightly jog. I plan on using this for the ski season, mainly coastal PNW mountains, the fit is perfect for layering to stay warm on and off the hill. A lot of comments have been focused on the drop-hood but I like the look and design of it personally.

I'm not sure who decides the colour choices, but they sure don't get skiing. Wearing a slightly brighter jacket can be a positive safety issue these days. This jacket will blend in with the trees and isn't a particularly flattering colour.

It's perfect hard shell for winter activities. But for "AR" purpose, it's a little too hard and make lots of noise use in other seasons. The sleeve is just too long compare with any other brand.

Obviously great quality, in material and fit. I didn't expect it to be so light, which is nice in summer and spring months. However it does suffer from the gore tex shuffle sound. Dont expect to be too stealthy in this.

Love this jacket!! It's my go too for whenever I do anything outdoors and also acts as my shell for winter season. With a decent down puff jacket underneath the heavy gortex shell can really help keep the cold air and wind out.

Good jacket that kept me dry in Sweden and during Caucasus trip through the mountains. Sizing is very weird - size S (which I have) fits perfectly on the body, but the sleeves are too long, size XS doesn't fit body at all (and the sleeves are still long), size M is too large.

The jacket itself is great, but it's let down by the hood. Others have mentioned the sleeves are long - they're perfect if you're stretching upwards, but about 2" too long the rest of the time. You can tighten the Velcro at the wrists but that also makes the jacket warmer. The hood, though .. if I tighten it up enough so that I can see and have it turn with my head, the face is quite exposed - badly enough that water runs down my face and inside the collar. If I loosen it up so that it moves forward and protects my face more, I have to turn at the waist; if I turn my neck the head doesn't move and I'm left looking at the inside. It also catches any wind coming from the front, offering little protection. I actually find I stay drier and warmer not having the hood up at all - just tighten up all the shock cords so that it's snug around my neck, and wear a hat of some kind instead. It feels like it'd work well over my mountain-biking helmet, though.

I really like this jacket - this is the first I've own. I've always went with North Face but wanted to try this jacket on. The jacket is warm, waterproof from rain and has Goretex materials. The only issue with this jacket is how expensive it is (almost 25% more expensive than regular Goretex jackets) and the limited warranty (North Face offers warranty for a longer period of time in case of unusual rips and tears due to the manufacturing)

Bought this jacket for the Laugavegur hike in Iceland - weather can be brutal so wanted a really solid mountain shell that would still pack down easily when not needed. Definitely a classic piece of kit but as with most Arc'teryx gear, priced accordingly. I consider them the Apple of outdoor apparel - beautiful designs, solidly built and work well but pricing (in UK at least) is often far more than comparable products from other high-end brands. Often 100 more than the comparable Mountain Equipment Lhotse, for example. Would have liked to see a two-way zip to make impromptu comfort breaks and harness adjustments easier but my main issue is the fiddly hood drawstring design. Hard to find the front drawcords by touch alone, and that's with bare hands. Becomes completely impossible with gloves on!

This jacket lives up to its advertising. Most wind and waterproof jacket I've ever owned and very lightweight. Has kept me dry in some monsoons. Not insulated, so there isn't much warmth other than keeping the wind off. I was right in between sizes. I wanted this to wear year round, which includes hiking, climbing, canoeing, camping, football games, snow sports, etc, so asking a lot out of the fit. I'm 5'9", 175, 32" sleeves, athletic build. The medium fit great with no or light layers, but was too snug in the shoulders if I really layered up with my down jacket, so I went with the large. The fit is good but the sleeves are very long at 35". This is a plus when climbing or hiking and need to reach, but definitely bunch up with arms at my side. The hood has great options to make it fit with or without a helmet. The quality is superb, but wish the sleeves weren't so long. This is a great jacket that hopefully will last many, many years. It ought to for the price.

I am 6'2" and 200lbs. Age 26. I lift weights and thus have a slightly bigger back and chest. The XL sleeves are way too long and baggy and the L is too tight on the armpits with a cerium lt down jacket underneath. I am not too sure what to do but I will be exploring other hard shell options since the XL sleeves are no joke way too long and way too baggy.

I have had this jacket for over a year now & I must say it works exactly as it is advertised. It works very well in the cooler spring/fall weather & keeps me dry when I am outdoors. With ample layering, this jacket works pretty well with the harsher winter conditions here. The jacket fits slightly on the larger size so you have plenty of room for layering your base/mid-layers. The only flaw I've seen through wearing this jacket through owning it for a year is that the tape seam inside the hood has starting to peel a bit. Other than that, it is a great shell jacket suitable for many conditions.

Tried this on in a store. The fit and colour (pomegranate) were great. I love that the hood is separate from the hood so I can zip up around my neck when it is not raining. I did find the length a bit short for me (5'9"). Overall, a lovely jacket.

The Beta AR is a great product, looks exceptionally durable and has all the features I was looking for in a shell. I purchased this product as my go-to shell for everything from skiing and hiking to walking my dog in the city. My only con is that the sleeves are very long compared to other Large Arc'teryx products I have purchased. I own a Cerium LT and Kyanite jacket, and they both fit perfectly. The Beta AR has room for layers as it is intended, but the sleeves are abnormally long.

Bought for skiing as an update to a 10+ old North Face. Great jacket! Perfect in the snow and wind.

First - my compliments. The Beta Ar is largely a superb feat of clothing engineering. Amazingly designed and accounts for the technical uses it is specified for. The material is remarkable, albeit a little stiff, by being both wind resistant and breathable. This jacket is my go-to in most outdoor activities, as a shell in winter and on its own in rain during other seasons. My circa 2004(?) version still looks new. My picadillos mostly have to do with being short. Trying to layer for skiing/winter means that i've inches of fabric at the wrist, that bunch under gloves. This on an arm that already has less length to accommodate any bulk. Paying top dollar for a piece of technical gear had always been a heartache for this 5' body. While the extra length is to allow for overhead movement, it is more than enough for the shorter statures. The second pain point - quite literally, is from the chin guard when the jacket is zipped up. The stiff fabric rubs my chin raw. Customer service explained that the hood was designed to be used with a helmet. ...ergo shouldn't rub when the hood is over a helmet? not true. For this shorter gal, wearing a ski helmet means the chin piece is hiked up so high it's almost over my nose. Which also gets chafed raw from the stiff tab at the top of the neck piece. Hence the four, not five star rating. I enjoy the jacket when I don't need it in the most dire, technical situations, but find it misses the mark a little for my size when I really need the details it was built for. Sometimes that's almost more disappointing - It's within reach, but just out of my grasp.

I'm a 6'3, 230 lb broad shouldered ex athlete (have an XL, generally a XXL in most other jacket/sweatshirts) and I like the length of the jacket compared to other Patagonia shells I had that stopped short near the waistline/butt. It has got good articulated shoulders and hood that allow mobility while casting a fly/rowing drift boat. I work in the field for construction services and the climbing helmet specific hood also fits nicely over a hard hat! I wash it on average once a month using Nikwax GORE-TEX specific wash and spray down with Nikwax DWR refresher and that's huge - if you want an expensive piece of equipment to last you've got to take care of it. Layer w/ a nano-air (patagonia) or atom series (arcteryx) and cotton/merino long sleeve for those November WY trout or winter steelhead fishing expeditions in MI and you're set!!! Now go do something fun.

Really good allround jacket, really good for rain but works well as windstopper and just to keep some warmth as well. Makes quite a lot of sound, but that decreases a bit with use. The red color is great.

This Beta AR jacket is great! It stands up to abuse, is super light and packable, is a great colour for areas where visually standing out can mean life or death (search and rescue, heli operations) and overall looks amazing! I get a whack load of compliments on it. I wear this jacket out mountain biking and hiking with a large heavy pack on. It is not bulky and I have seen no wear at friction points (shoulders) it gets pelted with dirt all the time when I am working with the helicopters, and it stays fairly clean. Its also easy to pack away once its warm out and no longer required. I find the greatest pro to be the colour, it really stands out when you want it too out in the backcountry, heaven forbid you have to be located by SAR or from the air. Wish I could afford to buy all the colours!!!

Zwischenbewertung nach 2 Monaten regelmssigem Gebrauch: Ich habe mich von der Beta AR hinreissen lassen, weil ich ein 2017-Modell zu einem guten Preis erstehen konnte. Farblich (grn) ist sie jedoch fr mich keine Augenweide. Ich besitze seit 2008 ein MX Gamma Hoody der ersten Generation und seit 2010 eine Atom LT der ersten Generation. Von beidem bin ich restlos berzeugt. Doch die Beta AR ist etwas anders gelagert: Plus Passform der Jacke - bei Krpergrsse 183 cm und sportlich/krftiger Natur (breite Schultern) trage ich blicherweise eine XL mit dem Nachteil an zu langen rmeln und zuviel Stoff am Bauch. Die Gamma, die Atom sowie die Beta habe ich in L gekauft und bin absolut zufrieden. Genug Platz fr Mittelschicht und nicht zu salopp wenn solo getragen. Zudem Stadttauglich. Die eher kurze Hftlnge kommt mir beim Fliegenfischen sehr zugute - nicht zu kurz, damit ein Hipp-Bag noch darber passt - nicht zu lang, dass sie nicht gleich im Wasser hngt, wenn Mann mal etwas tiefer watet. Beim Fahrradfahren ist die Krze auch gerade noch ok. Material - wie von Arc erwartet gibt's hier keine Kompromisse. Absolut perfekt. Minus Passform der Kapuze - macht Kopfdrehungen ohne Helm nur schlecht mit und kann aus meiner Sicht um Einiges schlechter justiert werden als bspw. bei der Gamma. Ich trage in diesem Fall immer eine Basball-Cap unter der Kapuze, was das Mitgehen beim Kopfwenden sehr vereinfacht. Mit Helm passt und funktioniert die Kapuze nahezu perfekt. Platzierung der Reissverschlusstaschen - vielleicht ist das nur bei mir so: trage ich einen Rucksack, verlaufen die Rucksack-Riemen beidseits genau ber die Reissverschluss-Garage, so dass ich nur mit Fummeln und -wenn eisig -nur mit ausgezogenen Handschuhen den Reissverschluss bedienen kann - was mitunter sehr, sehr nervig ist. Kein Zwei-Weg-Reissverschluss - fr eine AR-Jacke, die fr Hiking, Snowsports, Climbing und dergleichen deklariert ist, ein absolutes Must. Nachholbedarf! Keine laminierte rmeltasche - gerade beim Skifahren vermisse ich diese, fr Arc ansonsten so typische, laminierte rmeltasche auf der linke Armseite - was habe ich das bei der Gamma MX schon zu schtzen gewusst. Das sollte meiner Meinung nach unbedingt berarbeitet werden. Fazit: Passform und Material top (5*) - Funktionalit fr eine Allround mittelmssig (3*).

La veste beta AR est une excellente coquille a utiliser au quotidien comme dans les expditions les plus demandantes, Je l'utilise a chaque jour en vlo , en randonne 4 saisons, en ski hors-piste , en tlmark et a l'occasion en mtro , L'impermabilit est suffisante ( ne vous attendez jamais a avoir une impermabilit parfaite avec le gore-tex) la ventilation est suffisante, la coupe de la veste est vraiment excellente , toujours confortable , peu importe les couches intermdiaires on est toujours confortable et on a assez d'amplitude de mouvement. Le gros point ngatif de ce manteau est l'accessibilit et L'utilisation des glissires de ventilation sous les bras, Presque impossible a utiliser avec des gants, il y a toujours un plis dans la glissire qui les rends presque trs difficiles a ouvrir 100% sans enlever le manteau ou demander de l'aide, rsultat : des glissires toujours ouvertes a 80%. et oubliez pouvoir utiliser ces glissires avec un sac a dos , il faut l'enlever chaque fois. Finalement, aprs 2 ans d'utilisation soutenue incluant 2 lavage par mois , attendez-vous a de la dlamination et a un dcollement des panneaux, Heureusement , la garantie couvre cela mais on aimerait tout de mme que le produit soit plus prrein, car ce dernier est quand mme cher ... en plus de ncessiter l'utilisation de plus nos ressources limites chaque 2 ans.

If you have a standard body shape and need one jacket to protect against wind, rain, and snow, the Beta AR is for you. Unfortunately for my 40L and 175# frame, the sleeve and body lengths are shorter than other medium-sized Arc'teryx jackets I've owned (Aphix and Stingray, e.g.), and the athletic fit leaves little room in the chest for my triangle shaped torso. Unless I open the pit zips, I cannot rotate my arms through a full range of motion without the fabric pinching my shoulders, and if I lift my arms, my belly button shows. It makes sense that the lengths would be shorter than the Stingray, a whiteline snow-sports jacket, but I was surprised by the Beta AR's relatively high hem and the tightness across the chest compared to the medium-sized mid-layer jacket I already own (that the Beta AR is theoretically designed to layer over). That said, if you have a more standard body type, the fit will be slim but functional, and the new hemline should match the hem for newer generation mid-layers. Ultimately, the design poses a problem for 40Ls and a blessing for 40Rs.
