The throrium AR was purchased by myself after the cerium lt and cerium SV. If I were able to redo my purchases, this would be the only jacket I would have purchased. Firstly, the outer fabric, while heavier than the cerium's, is far more durable for using it as a mid layer on cold days without precipitation. Hiking or skiing with a pack on shouldn't require a soft or hardshell jacket to protect a jacket's durability, which is the case for the other two jackets. The jacket's fabric, based on use, does a better job at keeping the down feather distribution in the baffles. After a year and a half of use, my cerium lt baffles appear deflated from use unless I spin them in my dryer, and my cerium sv gets cold spots in high areas of movement, such as the shoulders and elbows. The thorium also function better as a casual layer, easily layering over casual shirts and flannels, while still fitting nicely under shells. The outer fabric's construction has led to far less feather loss than the cerium's, especially the lt, which consistently has small white feathers poking through the stitching. Instead, most feathers, which are few, are larger and poke through the fabric in the middle of the baffle, which are much easier to massage back in without cursing and finger twisting. However, this jacket is without flaws. The hood is roomy and fits well, but the coreloft is less flexible and fits less well than the cerium's down hoods, which are also warmer. The stitching seems less durable, with many small threads coming undone. This is minimal in impact, but questionable. The jacket also might fit too large, but this is also practical for layering and creating extra warmth. The jacket is certainly warmer than the cerium lt, but obviously less practical in the autumn (although any aerobic activity with down is a lose-lose situation), but is more durable than the cerium sv. If arcteryx could make one new down jacket, it would use the thorium ar's outer fabric, but the fill weight and hood design of the cerium sv. This jacket would be so much better than either current edition.

I like wearing this jacket between zero degrees C and to minus 15 degrees C. Beyond that temp I wear a longer parka coat. This jacket is light in weight, warm and I like the hood. I wear it as an everyday jacket.

I layered the Thorium AR hoody under my Theta AR and spent 10 hours ice fishing exposed to the elements in temperatures ranging from -22 F to 0 F and stayed comfortably warm. I had an Atom LT with me in case I needed to add another layer and I didn't need it. I was very impressed. I wear a large Atom LT and Theta AR. The large Thorium AR hoody is just slightly small in the torso and sleeve length for me. Not enough to make me return it for an XL. It does fit easily as a midlayer under my shell since I don't have a lot of excess bulk in the torso. The material seems durable enough but time will tell. So far I love this jacket.

Recently, I need a new insulated jacket for the winter. I considered three things before buying. The first is style. Second, it should be light and packable. lastly, wide use should be possible. There are various insulated jackets made by different brands in the market. But most of them made me look fat. I hate that, and that's why I chose acrteryx. At first, the products that I considered buying were atom ar hoody. It have the advantage of being very useful and easy to wash. But for me, packing size was a problem. My wife and I take our old puppy with us when we go hiking and trekking. Every time I have to carry food, water, and jackets(hardshells, softshells and insulators) for my wife and me because she carry a our puppy use her backpack. Weight and size are very important to me because I have to put things for two people in one backpack. So the next thing I considered was cerium sv hoody. It was enough to be worn outside and very warm. But I couldn't wear a my beta lt hybrid on it. Because it was too bulkier. That moment, Thorium ar hoody came into my eye. Frankly, Thorium ar hoody has not been on my list. Because I had an early version of Thorium ar and it was very disappointing to me. The problem with earlier versions is that it lose a lot of feathers. The old version had already lost a quarter of its feathers when it was shipped to me, and by the time of winter, half had disappeared. So I looked for a new model's review and Finally found out that the feather-loss problem was solved. Thorium ar hoody was exactly what I was looking for. When I first wore it, my wife told me it was like an tailor made. She was absolutely right. I am 180cm(5'11"), 89kg(196lbs) and has 44" chest, 33" waist athletic body shape. I bought a large size and it fits me like a my tailored made suit. It was a little bulky than cerium lt, but a little skinny than cerium sv. That means I can wear it on mid layer and at the same time under hardshell jacket. It may also replace mid layer. So it can be used like atom lt or cerium lt. Not long ago, I went to the mountain behind my house. The weather was -10C(14F) with strong winds. (So the body temperature was around -14C(6.8F)) My backyard Moutain was only 153m(500f), so I only wore Thorium ar hoody on the bass layer and it was warm enough. Thorium ar used 30 deniers material. It also makes me satisfied that it is more durable than ceriums(used 10 Deniers). The important point is that this new Thorium ar hoody does not lose its feathers. My new Thorium ar hoody traveled by airplane and truck from a store in New Jersey for a week and arrived at my home in Seoul, Korea. Nevertheless, surprisingly, not a single feather escaped. Also, to this day I have not found any feathers that have escaped. Acrteryx fixed the only downside of thorium ar, and I was very impressed with it.

Recently picked up this jacket to help keep me warm in the Canadian Winters. Super comfy and I liked the zipper much more than the Cerium LT I was also looking at. Works perfectly as part of a layering system. (unfortunately, my shell is not Arc'Teryx... Maybe my next purchase). I am so happy with this purchase as I have been with my other Arc'Teryx purchases.

I purchased the Thorium AR down jacket because I was looking for a warm, but lightweight down jacket (with a hood!) to wear under my Arc'teryx Beta AR shell. The two jackets work perfectly together. The Thorium was also attractive to me because of its durable face fabric. I like the cut and silhouette of the jacket as it doesn't add unnecessary bulk to my frame. The back dips/curves down for extra coverage (preventing chilly updrafts) and the jacket is adjustable around the waist. Aesthetically, I think the matte finish is more attractive than shiny-faced down jackets. The jacket is really warm and comfortable (with the hood coming in handy at night or when the wind picks ups). I opted for the Crimson, which I think is a super versatile colour, working with a range of hues (blues, blacks and browns). I am thoroughly pleased with this purchase and hope it lasts me a long time.

I have had an eddie Bauer down tha tI have had for the past 7-ish years that I am absolutely obsessed with. In a backcountry excursion last season it finally blew up and since then I have been eyeing this jacket. I finally pulled the trigger a month ago and so thankful I did! My partner and I were traveling from the west coast to the midwest and came across a range of temps and this jacket was perfect for all of them. From literal downpours on the west coast to below zero temps in Park City, to a full blow 8 hour resort snowboarding day this thing has held up. Not only that but it's extremely warm and comfortable. I am an athletic build, 5'3 165 lb gal and I went with the Large. It's a perfect fit for me because I carry a lot of my weight in my chest. Anyone who maybe has a smaller chest/not as broad shoulders, a Medium will definitely do.

It has been a cold winter here in the San Francisco Bay Area. This is my thickest puffer and find it very warm and light, so you don't feel bogged down by an equally heavy wool coat. I use an RHO LT under layer with an Atom SL vest, to keep me warm when getting indoors after arriving at my destinations. I took a chance that this was too puffy, but was surprised to only get compliments everything I wear it.

This jacket is amazing! It keeps me warm when outside but regulates when I go inside. The hood fits and adjusts easily with hats. The arm length is perfect and the cuffs have a little extra cushion and padding to them which is really nice.

I have appreciated Arcteryx as an outdoor brand since the 90s, admiring their products, minimalist style, and an assortment of down and fleece offerings. I was always broke and needed more money to justify the cost. And a few years back, I did pick up a Cerium, but it didn't quite capture what I wanted, which was to find the best balance of a lightweight down jacket and warmth. I was aware of the Thorium, but it never hit me at the right time, with the right price, and the right color, to get me to pull the trigger. I like Arcteryx's colorways and the aqua-blue color I picked up. Sizing is always a concern with down jackets. I have a hooded fleece from Arcteryx that I love, and it fits perfectly underneath the Men's Small Thorium. A tremendous warm-weather combo. I'm 5'9+, 138, reasonably slim, and the Men's small fits beautifully. I could get away with a Medium if layering were critical. I want to try on the new Thorium parka, which appears slightly longer and provides a little bit more roomguessing on that. The Thorium is now my new jacket from here on out.

Great quality overall. The fit is supposed to be regular but in reality is fitted. I typically wear large jackets and the large from Arc'teryx basically clings to my body. Warmth - it's warm. Just t shirt underneath is ok down to 0 C. Below zero I wear thin fleece as base layer.

I bought this jacket a month ago and made a right decision. I needed a jacket for walking my dog in the winter and this jacket is perfect. You can pair it with insulated pants and you are ready for a nice winter walk. So far I've been wearing it when the temperature is -3 C and it's quite warm. When it gets to -15 then I will just add a warm sweater. It's quite roomy as I bought a size bigger. I usually wear a XS for Arc'teryx jacket and parka, I bought a size S. I love all Arc'teryx quality products!!

I have had the Cerium Hoody, more light weight than this one, for many years. I wear it through fall and spring every day. I'm a walker and it will keep you warm, regulated, never feels too warm. The Thorium is the same jacket but for COLD days. It's perfect for outdoors, into the wood, adventures in winter.
