This is a walking shoe but it is too hard. My legs, knees, and the sloe of my feet ached so bad. So i need to return and select something else.
I'd also recommend:

I an returning this shoe because I primarily wanted a waterproof walking shoe. I live in Portland, OR (need I say more about rain?). I should have read the reviews by others who said it was not really waterproof. I have problem feet, very narrow heels in a size 7 or 7.5 and have to wear a custom orthotic. I have both bunions and arthritic knees. I used to wear New Balance all the time 20 yrs ago (before either of those problems surfaced), but have since gone to ASICS for regular (non-waterproof) fabric walking/running shoes which are great. Even better are Brooks Addiction walker, which I cannot say enough good things about! I walked around my carpeted home and up and down stairs with these New Balance shoes - they are not as well fitting in the heel (a bit too loose) as they should be. And when I had the Addiction walker on one foot and the NB on the other (both with orthotics in), there was no question which was the superior shoe. I would have put up with a slightly less perfect fit in the NB, but the reviews complaining that these are not truly waterproof prompted me to return them. (I don't need to walk in puddles with them, but some of the reviews said just 2 min in drizzle got them wet; I have to walk my dog and need shoes that can take a 15 minute walk without getting soaked).
I'd also recommend:
Brooks Addiction Walker, Clarks Wavetek (WATERPROOF but no longer made in N sizes!!)

Thankfully, I only need this shoe for work days *walking* in the rain. I can't imagine running in them. They are uncomfortable. I don't feel a lot of stability. I just feel like I'm walking on rocks and I have orthotics in the shoe. Sitting in my vehicle, it feels uncomfortable resting my foot on the ground near the pedal. I have not had a pleasant time shopping for NB shoes in the last year and a half between the decrease in quality and the overall style of their shoes, especially with size 11-12 feet (depending on orthotics.) The NB shoes I'm wearing (1400's), which look(ed) great and small (not bulky) on my feet, developed holes in 3 months, which is really unacceptable. Usually, the NB shoes I have gotten have lasted 10-12 months. Lastly, most of their shoes in my size, I have to purchase, have them shipped and then return them because they don't have them in the store to try on. Then they take 2-3 weeks to refund my money. I have given up on New Balance now.

Lightweight and comfortable with sturdiness NB is known for! From the moment I put them on we became old friends! I also love the removable insoles

Extremely comfortable and stable, very important as I get older. I like them even better than the 1300's I have worn for several years. I thought they might be a bit clunky cut I have gotten several compliments on how well they look.

I ordered another pair & will order 1 more. That's because you keep discontinuing the style I like. Not a bad thing.

I was buying from another store and read a review about not buying from them and coming to this site, that the shoes were different. They are! 100 percent! I have no idea why but they are! The Fresh Foam shoes are comfy but not hot. Lots of support, my back stopped hurting! I don't mind paying more to NB for better shoes. Our feet are the foundation. Bad shoes, bad ankles, bad back..... you get it! I will purchase again. Thank you New Balance

I enjoy daily walks along the shore. Some parts rocky and others sandy. I wanted a good sturdy waterproof sneaker and this is it. This shoe has great support and keeps my feet dry. Just what I was hoping for!

As an old lady walking on gravel roads--no pavement within 2 miles--these shoes are awesome! They hold my ankles firm and steady! Comfortable from the first day out! I ordered size 9 instead of my usual 8.5 because I wanted plenty of room around my toes. It worked!

I purchased these shoes for walking. I ordered the shoes a half size bigger than my regular shoe size to accommodate wearing heavier socks. The fit was perfect. I was impressed with the arch support too.

Narrow in the heel and enough room in the toe box. A very cushy insole and proper arch support. And solid black! I like them.

The shoe felt larger in length than other New Balance, but I think a half size smaller would be too short. But these will do fine with heavier sock, which is what I plan for winter walking! Can’t wait for rain to try out!

I have only these a few days, but like the fit. They are a little big, but I don’t think a smaller size would accommodate my wide foot. They feel good with a moderate thick sock and they do not weigh my foot down like other brand trail shoes...looking forward to wer winter!

Awesome shoes, but I wish I'd ordered a half-size smaller. Shoe sizing is so different depending on the style. Very comfortable shoe - wearing with a heavier sock works fine!

slightly tight in toe area, will not be able to wear thick winter socks, might have ordered half size up. but they do fit, am keeping them. I usually order 6 1/2 in this brand, which is what size your computer wanted to send.

I tried 8 1/2 EE, my usual size. The toe box is quite a bit narrower than the New Balance sneakers I'm used to wearing and the heel area seemed wider. I'm returning them unfortunately, because I really need a pair of low waterproof shoes.

Seems like very sturdy shoes and I liked the look of them, but they slipped off my heel when walking. Reluctantly returned.

It's a weird feeling shoe. I wanted to try this newer sole. It is light but feels hard, very little cushion on the inside. They do grip the road, so no slipping. I probably won't buy them again. I have been wearing NB for at least 20 yrs.

These were returned. I ordered wide width but they were too narrow and hurt at the toe box.

New balance doesn't account for the space that the gortex liner takes up in the shoe. You always have to order a size wider and 1/2 size longer. I wish new balance would get it together and size these appropriately to account for the space that the gortex liner takes up in the shoe. I was ready to go to a podiatrist because both my little toes were hurting so bad, even bought toe cushions, only to realize it was being caused by these shoes. Two weeks of not wearing them and my feet have been normal ever since. Plus three were heavy and looked very clunky. So I can no longer wear these because I had ordered my normal size. I did size up in the 1400 boot from a normal D width to a 2E and those have been comfortable for years.

I need to replace my Asics Gel Kahana trail running shoes which have served me well for many years. Wish Asics still made that shoe - the cushion in the Asics Kahana, as old as those shoes are, is still better than the shoes I have been ordering from Zappos, trying on, and returning. The process is becoming quite frustrating. I tried this New Balance WW1350W1 Walking shoe in two sizes - size 8 Medium, and 7.5 Wide. Both felt quite stiff, hard, and not much in terms of cushion for the foot. Also, it felt clunky, and looked clunky also. My usual size for shoes is a 7.5 Medium. The 8 Medium was fine for width, but too long. The 7.5 Wide fit like a 7.5 Medium, length was fine. I returned both of these. I decided on keeping the Asics Gel-Venture 7, size 8 Wide. It seems that shoe manufacturers are making shoes narrower than the stated size. This is unfortunate and confusing to customers. With the world population becoming heavier in weight, I cannot imagine that our feet are getting smaller or narrower.
I'd also recommend:
El Naturalista, Keen, ASICS, Miz Mooz, Pikolinos, Bogs waterproof leather

I returned these after testing them several days in doors - hoping that the heel slip would change with different socks, but nothing helped. Was concerned that blisters would prevail eventually.
