Got this hoodie for dealing with those crazy Spring temperature and weather fluctuations, especially as the evening progresses. (Ex. working outside, watching the kids at soccer pratice, etc.) I did "cheat" and try this on at a retail store so I knew what size to get and the advice I can give is that Carhartt seems to run slightly big. It may just be a function of them wanting more ease of motion as they make "working" clothing (vs other brands that do it for vanity sizing). I've worn it at least a dozen times and I love it. If it's warm out, I can unzip. If it's chilly, I can zip up. If it's cold, I can use the hood. And the pockets have done a nice job keeping my hands warm. I also appreciate the secondary "phone" pocket. Just nice to keep small stuff with you but out of the way. Oh, and there is an inside breast pocket - another bonus. I haven't tested the water resistance but I know it'll happen and I'm confident it will perform well simply based on it's been great on all other counts. And to clarify for folks - the sleeves are not puffy sherpa lined but smooth and that's how they're supposed to be in hoodies like this. It's so you arms don't snag.

Bought 2 - However I sent email asking if had Sherpa lining down the sleeves Email stated yes. WRONG it does not have sherpa lining in the sleeves. VERY unsatisfied. Would not have ordered if information would have been correct!

This Hoodie is really something! It is extremely warm and comfy. I bought it to wear for working in the rain. I’m 6’1” and an XL fits perfectly. Very durable and well made. Also, The inside material on the arm sleeves is not lined with the same Sherpa material, but it’s not a big deal. Still totally worth it.

Carhartt Rain Defender like most Carhartt products has an oversized fit. The satin lining in the sleeves is great, especially while wearing long sleeve cotton-made undergarments as it allows for an ease of arm movement without the bunching of sleeve-on-sleeve while you work or move. The faux sherpa material does provide an added layer of comfort in the cold but only lines the torso and hood. This hoodie is definitely comfortable in cold weather (just wore it in 40º F October Midwest rainy day) and it blocks wind but not overtly so as I had to wear my Carhartt hooded coat over it to truly block the moist wind chill. Style is basically on par with all Carhartt tops: it is big and oversized through the torso. While this might be great for really burly men with big bellies, it is also a hindrance for someone such as myself (5' 10" and 150 lb.) while working as it is basically a lot of excess material that gets in the way when working with your upper body. The "belly" area basically pouches out making it easy to catch on something or be in the way if working close to the body. So if you own Carhartt and know what to expect in terms of how the style of sizing is with their tops then there isn't anything new. For smaller bodied, skinnier folk such as myself Carhartt really needs to get with the modern era and create a line of "slimmer" products. The materials and craftsmanship of the product is great but are really geared for heavier set people.

I'm wearing this in south central NM in temps 30-40F. Certainly more than adequate for this temp range.

Love everything about this jacket! And would give it a 5 if it wasn't for the nylon lining inside the sleeves, waaaay to cold on the arms. Unless you wear another jacket or a long sleeve your arms will freeze. Yes I could have sent it back but I wanted to like it so I cut out the lining and now it's feels much warmer, maybe my arms may not have as much protection but what's the point of wearing nothing to be also warm yet feel cold

Fellas, Sent this back and ordered a new one. This jacket is still nice. I've owned a couple of these for work clothing. The only difference is that my last one was made in Mexico and this new one made in Vietnam, the sizes are different. My last one (made in Mexico) was a Medium and was plenty generous to layer underneath and still be comfortable. This new one (made in Vietnam) was way too small to do that. In fact it was snug with a tee shirt on. If it's made in Vietnam get a size larger so when you wash it, it will fit. For reference I'm a 6' 3" 200 lb guy.

I wish I had the chance to actually try it on before I selected size large. I always wear size large in everything, so I didn't give it a second thought, but these do tend to run a little big. I think a medium would have been perfect for me.

This sweatshirt is awesome. Very warm. May have to consider throwing my jacket away. That warm!! Have not had the opportunity to wear it out in the rain yet. That will be the next test. Probably should have bought a large instead of extra-large. I don't like tight fitting sweatshirts but XL very roomy for 6-foot 200-pound bod.

Super comfy and warm. Wearing it to deliver packages even in below zero weather. Not crazy about the extra little pocket as it is a little cumbersome, but overall I love this.
