I almost didn't get this boot because of the lug sole and odd shaft height. However, once I received it and saw how sleek and cool this boot was, I wanted it to work in the worst way. It just didn't fit. I usually take a 9.5 or 10 in boots. The 9.5 fit great in the width, but my toes were mashed against the front of the boot. The size 10 was way too wide and my foot sloshed around. I tried three different insoles to correct the width, but they made the boot compress my big toe (ouch). I even tried a half length insert to prevent said toe mashing, but then the instep was still too loose. I have been searching for a comfortable/wearable/walkable waterproof boot for an upcoming trip to Europe--of the gazillion booties I've tried, these had the most comfortable footbed. I have high arches and 50 year old lady feet and am a freak about comfort (but am too vain to sacrifice style). I loved the edgy look of the sole. These boots not only flattered my athletic legs, they looked great with skinny jeans, wide crops, and straight legs. I hope they work for you!

These boots are incredibly comfy. I have bunions and the fit is good. I don’t have wide feet so they are a perfect medium width. I also walk a couple miles downtown between offices and so far they are still incredibly comfy. They look great with skinny jeans. Someone wrote they aren’t warm. I disagree. It’s 20 deg right now. I have on dress socks and my toes are toasty. So worth the money!

I have the black leather, and my usual size fits well with light socks. For more support, I did replace the Sorel insole with an Aetrex insole. You should probably size up if you are planning to wear heavier socks. Great boots for walking in the fall, winter, and spring. The shaft height is attractive with leggings, the heel height is perfect, the soles are grippy, and this boot is waterproof. Sorel, if you make an additional version of this Phoenix Zip boot with a shaft about 5 inches higher so that it could be worn in deeper snow, I will buy it.

I needed a waterproof leather boot for casual dress, with great walkability. These fit the bill. Practical without being boring because the sole makes them look current. Very comfortable out of the box. I am usually a 9.5 but bought the 10 because I wanted to wear a wool sock for comfort. Best uses: a rainy day w/ lots of errands, travel, a day in the city. I'm not typically one to write reviews, but thought this boot was worth the words! :)

I have been searching for some time now to replace my Teva De la Vina’s (which Teva replaced with a newer, cuter, but much tighter and not as comfortable style) - looking for comfort, style and something waterproof which is tough to get all in one boot. I have plantar fasciitis and comfort is my top priority of all three... Just received in black and the grayish color... the Phoenix Zip which is extremely comfortable, with a nice shaft height that is not rigid, and a funky sole to boot! Other reviewers said they got lots of compliments and I can see why. I do prefer the gray over the black, both because of what I typically wear but also because the black looked like it would more easily show ceasing and age, versus the gray which has a weathered look. Only challenge was that the left and right foot seem different. The left has creasing above the toes and the color is slightly different. Ordering another pair in hopes that they match ? Wanted to also add that I ordered the Sorel Emelie as well which were beautiful and very similar in style (aside from the sole style and zipper placement) and these were 10x more comfortable; the footbed is more absorbing of each step (assuming because these have a more substantial rubber sole and the Emelie’s are a flatter boot with rubber but also something hard), the zipper is much easier to pull and the boot shaft on the Emelie was very rigid and dig into my shin.

I had my fingers crossed for these because I needed a waterproof stylish boot PRONTO. And they seem to be working out! Cushy footbed, comfy comfy. A little boxy, but hey, they're waterproof leather. I ordered two different sizes beause of the reviews and took my usual size so I think it depends on the width of your foot. I am a narrow 8.5 and the 8.5 was perfect. I am really happy with the grey because they are a super-neutral. I heart the Sorel Phoenix!

I have somewhat narrow feet. This boot was nice looking, but my heel slipped up while the toe box was too tight. I was wearing thin socks for trying on and ordered my usual size. This will work for a less narrow foot, but I would order a half size up for a better fit.

I usually wear an 8W, but an 8.5 in these worked great. They were a little loose in the heel/ankle, especially considering that the top of the boot is relatively narrow, but a 3/4 insole added some padding and arch support, and filled in the space. They have been great for this icy, sloppy, MN "spring"; grippy on ice, waterproof, plenty warm above 20, and cute.

I love these boots; they are comfortable, stylish, and practical. However, I just got them a few weeks ago and it appears that the leather is already starting to peel on one of the toes. For the amount I spent on these boots, I expected much better durability. I am a stay at home mom so it’s not like I overuse them. They should not be wearing out like that already. Very disappointed.

This shoe ships with a cardboard ankle support, BUT also a cardboard toe insert. I tried on the 6 and couldn't believe how tight the toe box was and returned the shoes for 6.5. Reading reviews online I saw many reporting the same. When I received the 6.5 fit was good....until I realized I hadn't noticed the toe insert!! I am sure that is why the 6's were too tight. I felt like an idiot, but I do wonder if this shoe gets tried on with the very stealth toe insert in place with many people.

These fit true to size from my experience. I ordered my usual 6.5 and can wear them with thin socks or thicker ones when it gets colder. I can wear them for light hikes out with professional clothes. I am enjoying them and think I will get alot of wear out of them considering Sorel’s quality.

After trying at least 10 pairs of shoes/boots (thanks Zappos) for a trip through Africa, I settled on these. The leather is soft, the shoes are well-made (I own a pair of winter Sorel boots that have lasted for years). They are comfy and very flexible; my feet don't feel caged in, yet they feel protected. I was worried the shoes would be heavy and bulky when I saw the soles, but they are not. They are true to size and width was a perfect medium.

Based on other reviews I ordered half size up the first time, but returned for my normal size 9. I’m a plain old size 9 Reg, so if you’re not a wide, narrow etc....... than get your regular size! I ordered the gray and they are really a soft pretty gray, with GREAT winter safe treads on the soles. They are very comfortable right out of the box! I did spray mine with Snow Seal to protect the leather, but haven’t tested how “Waterproof” they are yet!

I was drawn to these because they are the perfect mix of rugged and sleek that I was looking for in a waterproof boot (good with leggings and dresses). I was SO close to keeping them, but they slipped on my heel and pulled down my socks (I tried multiple pairs). Part of it may be my narrow heels, but I think it is also the weight of the sole.

I really wanted to like these boots since they looked sleek on my feet and would be good to wear to work on snowy days. The fit wasn’t right for me since I have a high instep and I’m on the wide side of medium. The boots were too tight across the top of my foot and way too narrow in the toes. They would have been comfortable if they were a bit wider. These would be great for someone with a narrower foot.

I'm normally a size 8 but need to order a 1/2 size up as they run small. I won't be able to tell if they're comfortable until I size up though I do like the look of the boot. They seem perfect for everyday wear in NYC.

I ordered my usual size 9 in the black color. Easy to slide on but I could tell is was sloppy on my heel (loose). As I walked into another room to look in a mirror I could feel the stiff heel material cutting into the back of my ankle as I walked and actually gave me a few sharp jabs of pain - and that's only from walking from one room to another. So, these don't fit properly, and I'd be quite worried to wonder how much agony I'd be in if wearing them for a long time. I'd say they are too big. Cute enough but not to die for in my opinion. I tried them in part because I wanted a waterproof walkable boot and they were on sale.

Great boot for every occasion! This will definitely be my go-to boot for a while! I ordered my regular size and they are perfect fit for me.

First I have to say THANK YOU to Zappos for making it so easy for me to finally get the right size. I am normally 7.5 but ordered up 1/2 size because of the reviews. It was love at first sight when I opened the box (Burro color). They felt ok at first as I wore them around the house but I started to get the feeling that they were stretching and would keep stretching so I ordered a 7.5 just to compare. They were too tight so I sent them back and kept the 8's to think about and try adding an insole. Then I read a couple reviews that said they accidentally left the cardboard inserts in while trying them on. I feared that I might have done that when trying the 7.5's...SO I called Zappos to see if they would banish me if I reordered the same size again! The Zappo's rep was awesome and very understanding (yay!). So I reordered two pairs of 7.5's (because I also noticed the color varied from pair to pair and hoped to get the darker ones). As it turned out the 7.5's (making sure the inner cardboard inserts were removed) were just about perfect...just a teensy bit tight in the toes yet not uncomfortable. So, knowing they'll stretch out a little I'm going for the 7.5! Whew...what an ordeal! But Zappos made it so easy. I wanted these for being comfortable and practical pounding the pavement in wet weather while also looking stylish—a perfect all-in-one travel boot. They are that in spades!! Very happy!

I want to live in these boots - they are that comfortable. Usually I require a period of time before shoes or boots do not cause blisters on my feet, but right out of the gate I walked over a mile in these and I could have kept going!

I wear an 8-1/2 to 9 size shoe, depending on the brand. I wanted room for a thicker sock so bought these in a 9. They were comfortable right out of the box and make me feel like a cool-ish 57 year old. Love them!

I first bought these boots in the Quarry color and loved the fit and style so much I got them in black as well. I feel like I can walk around in them all day without any issues. The width is fine if I wear a thinner sock, I could see however how it would be an issue if you want a toastier feel and opt for a thicker sock. As always the customer service at Zappos is outstanding. I couldn’t be any more impressed by the level of care and service. Thank you Zappos!

I have been searching for a patent leather everyday casual boot. I can even wear these with black tights, sweater dresses, and wool skirts. They are nicely padded, almost like memory foam. They are comfortable and wearable. They have somewhat of a rounded toe, but I wish it were a little more rounded (but that's my personal foot problem, not the shoe's). They have a leathery crinkle about them when in motion, which helps to distinguish them from a patent leather rubber boot. I've been a little self conscious that people will think that I'm wearing a plastic/rubber boot as daily wear (even when not raining), but I don't care. These look nice, and the Sorel rectangular, leather tab on the back of the shoe adds to the boot's look as a "real" boot versus a fancier wet weather galosh. I like wearing them without socks, and they have a nice interior that doesn't get sour easily. I am very happy with my purchase.

I found these to run a half size smaller - I ordered another pair and they are PERFECT! I am wearing with jeans and leggings through the week. Great for cold, wet weather days also. I wish there was a bit of simple pizazz to them - maybe a few studs? But they really work well. Simple & stylish.
