I wrote the review from Santa Barbara. We've been having some awful weather, and I still stand by my review - great coat. I still hate the DOG COLLAR, and I don't understand why Ilse Jacobsen doesn't change it. I've been meaning to go to a fabric store, and today when I put the coat on, I realized the dog collar had gone through the loops, which attach it to the coat and the hood was on the floor - thank goodness I didn't lose it. Anyway, this is my recommendation - buy some braid for tiebacks for curtains in the shade of your coat. I got some today - not as fat as I want, but it will do the job and is a great improvement on the dog collar. See below - put a knot in each end and you're set - no dog look any longer, and you won't lose your hood. Still a GREAT COAT!!!!

This is the raincoat I've been looking for! I recently moved to the Pacific NW and we get some serious rain in winter. I needed a stylish raincoat that I could layer underneath and that was long enough so my legs don't get soaked during my commute. This raincoat has everything I wanted and more. I got the blue grey color and it is even prettier in person. My biggest concern when ordering was sizing. The sizing chart on zappos is wrong. I went to the Ilse Jacobsen website to help determine my size. I am 5'5'' with a 34" chest and got a size 34. It fits with enough room to layer underneath and falls at the tops of my knees. Also, the hood is a fantastic size-- it overhangs your face so your face doesn't get wet but doesn't block your vision. Unlike some of the other reviewers, I love the belted hood feature on this coat. It is a really cool and unique detail that I'd never seen before and I've had no functional issues with it yet. If you are looking for a functional and flattering A-line coat in a range of pretty colors, I recommend this coat. Definitely one of my best zappos purchases!

I was hesitant to try this based on the review discussing the awkward strap. It isn't so loose, and if I'm worried about losing it, a small piece of self-adhesive velcro underneath it in the back will fix the problem. The coat comes to my knee in the front, so a perfect coat for getting to work in the rain. Fit is cuter than in the picture (has an A-line shape) and very flattering. I'm 5'5" and the 38 is perfect.

Though you can't really see it in the photo, the hood is held on with a leather strap that needs to be buckled in the front or it will simply slide out of its loops. It's really odd. Unbuckled, which it will be 99% of the time, especially if the jacket is unzipped or on a hanger, it will simply slide out to get lost. When unbuckled, it also hits the wearer in the face while wearing the jacket. I really love the style other than this and would've kept it. I am keeping another IJ jacket, though I don't like it as well as this one (other than the odd strap). You could remove the hood and strap, but then you won't have a hood if it does rain and you'll have empty loops around the collar. There's absolutely nothing wrong with the quality or size of this jacket, and if you like the leather strap, it may be the perfect jacket for you.

Awesome!! This raincoat does EXACTLY what I need it to do - keeps me DRY, even when it’s raining sideways. It’s a rubbery fabric and waterproof. Very lightweight - no real lining but perfect for layering. Generous fit - it’s not like other Ilse Jacobsen’s winter coats as it’s a true A shape and NOT fitted at the waist. But still flattering, when unzipped, for those of us who do better with a roomy fit. I would give it 6 stars if the hood were sewn in as part of the coat. The little leather neck/hood strap is needed to keep the hood attached. It’s kinda odd but really, not a problem and easy to ignore.

Great raincoat. It's pretty much exactly what I was looking for, which is a lightweight, longer coat that's roomy enough to layer over sweaters and that has a removable hood. I don't want a coat if the hood isn't optional. This one doesn't have an adjustable toggle or anything, yet it doesn't fall over my eyes, which is shocking because hoods are always floppy and too big. I agree with the reviewer who said the hood's leather fastener is odd; that strip/buckle component is indeed strange. I may have to take it off when not using the hood or secure it, as the other reviewer suggested, so it stays attached (thank you, reviewer:-). This is my second Ilse Jacobsen coat. Overall worth keeping because the coat is flattering, looks cool (imo), the banded collar offers good neck coverage. Thoughtfully designed. The inside is soft and the outside material has a certain rubberized texture, which I hope keeps me dry. I haven't worn it in the rain yet - we'll see!

I really like this raincoat, but I bought it because I wanted something with a cozy fleece interior lining and a raincoat on the outside. I put "fleece lining" in the search and this came up and in the description, it says it has a fleece lining. But, the photos indicate there is only a flannel lining and upon receipt I realized that there is NO fleece lining, so there is a bit of a misrepresentation. IF I needed JUST a nice plain black raincoat I might keep it, but I don't so I hope they change the description. Leigh

I got a 4 (the smallest size) - I weigh about 103 and am 5'6". It's big and roomy, but amazingly fits me well around the shoulders. It leaves a lot of room to wear stuff underneath, which you need if it's cold outside and NOT summer rain storm. It's well made, great zipper with closing over top so rain doesn't get in, great sleeve closure with grommet so rain doesn't get in, great hood, which doesn't fall down, and great construction - well made. The only thing I can say negative thing about is that after taking the coat off and on many times, the grommets hold so well that eventually they might tear out. I don't know b/c it will take some wear and tear, but that's what I think will happen. Nonetheless, I would still buy it again without any reservations. The main thing I DON"T LIKE is the dog collar that attaches the hood - it's ugly, hideous, and doesn't fit with the style of the coat at all. I plan on buying the same color cording (perhaps the same cording you see holding back curtain), and taking out the dog collar and using it. Unfortunately, you have to use it until you replace it b/c it holds on the collar. The color is a rose color - I wanted the red, but it was sold out across all sites. I like the rose, but would have liked a brighter more vibrant color that can be seen i.e. bright orange or a slicker yellow. I bought it to walk my dogs when it's raining in Southern California, and they just have to go - I love it and it works great!

I'm 5'4" with broad shoulders. I bought a size 44 which is supposed to translate to a size 12 US. This coat is a comfortable fit and length. I like the collar detail. The material itself feels a little more rubbery than I anticipated, otherwise I would have given it 5 stars overall.

I love the design and color of this coat, but the material is a little stiffer than I anticipated and the XL, really extra large! I don't see many other stylish really waterproof options, so may order a size smaller even though I wish it was lighter.

Style is nice, boxy and very european. Very lightweight which was what I was looking for. Zipper immediately broke so I sent it back. Really do not like the light colored lining showing through on the collar and inside of the hood. Wish the lining were a darker color and not so noticeable.

I fell in love with the deep red and still love it after wearing it. Unique style, slightly oversized so I can wear a vest underneath if needed. The leather strap holding the hood is different and looks awesome- others said it looked like a dog collar but I disagree. IJ listened to the comments about it falling out because mine is attached with a stylish snap in the middle back so it won't fall out but can be removed if desired. Fabric is soft and feels lightweight and almost cuddly. Seems waterproof to me, not just water resistant.

Love the rain coat - the material feels great and it is a nice length to protect the legs. It runs large - no way am I really a 40 - probably more like 42, but that's okay as long as you know.

Fit was fine but this is a raincoat that could not be disguised as anything else. Awkward “neck belt” to hold hood in place. I ordered the “Canyon Rose” color which was a dull, muted color. Not the right raincoat for me.

This trench is light, sleek, stylish and would be a 100% keeper except I received it without the strap that attaches the hood to the coat. Oops! I will reorder with the hope that the trench is complete.

Love this coat! Was looking for a stylish rain coat, with heavy duty protection without a heavy duty look, for an Alaskan cruise. Love how the wrists can be snapped down for a tighter fit to keep rain out. It's a keeper!

Everything fits great and is perfect for our rainy winter weather! The only problem was that when it arrived, it smelled like smoke. I had to air it out in garage for at least a week before it was fit to wear. Was this a return from a different customer?

Definitely seems oversized for a size 4. They were out of size 2, so I thought I would take a chance. I’m 5’3”/ 116lbs.If I keep it, I’ll wear the sleeves rolled up except for heavy rain.

This is such an excellent quality rain coat. Comfortable, roomy, flattering. As other customers wrote- the belt around the neck is weird and if you remove it the whole hood gets unmatched. But overall I will still purchase this raincoat because non of the other company makes such an great quality coat! Highly recommend!

The material is very rubbery. But the real issues with this coat are that it runs one size larger than standard Ilse Jacobsen jackets. Also, the neck buckle thing is a silly design feature, and the sleeve snaps are also poorly designed. Overall, this coat is a disappointment.
