There's always a few niggles from reviews about the bag. Minor, no pack is ever, ever going to satisfy everyone. The big thing should be, how does this pack feel after several hours in the mountains. I had a Gregory z55, never really unhappy with it, but never really was awed by it. 2 tramps ( sorry, need to stick to new Zealand vocabulary) in my beautiful country, not heavily loaded, maybe about 15kgs, and I'm just downright in love with it. The pre molded hip belt feels odd when you first put it on, but it just kind of snaps around your body and hugs you like your best buddy. As soon as I put it on, it just felt like it was molded for my body personally by some kind designer. Sometimes, i just kind of forgot I had it on. Yep, everyone has a different body shape, but for me, the design of it just means it kind of melts into your body and it's a joy to walk with. Sure, maybe you want the top flap removable, maybe the hip pocket zips are a little tight, get over it and remember why you are out in the mountains, to forget our stupid little western complaints and enjoy our wilderness. Thanks Osprey, it just makes an older body enjoy his time in the mountains a little more.

This is by far the most comfortable pack I've ever used. Carry for 8 hours a day with no back pain. It does have a squeak and side access would be nice, but I love it

I've had this bag for 3 years now. I use it to go to the Sierras from 3-5 day trips and I also use it locally for weekend trip with out Boy Scout Troop. This bag has never let me down! I love it! I'll never use another bag!! As for the Warranty.... absolutely stellar!! My bag developed a squeak that became louder and more annoying over time. I called customer service they said to send it in. They sent me a brand new bag!! This is what keeps people loyal to your product! Great customer service!

I bought this backpack a couple years ago and carried it on 3-4 days trip regularly. The fit and function was only surpassed by the comfort. This was the most comfortable pack I'd ever worn. The only down side was that there weren't any straps on the bottom which wasn't too bad until I went out west and had to add a bear can. The space required inside the pack wouldn't fit the bear can and all of my gear for a week long trip, but I liked the pack so much, I bought the 65 and have liked it just as much. I even bought my son the 65 a year later. Fantastic pack.

Very, VERY comfortable on my back with 35 lb load. Did not notice discomfort on my waist either. Comfort level consistent throughout hours of hiking. Ventilation is also superb. The only issue I have is my 600 cu in Garcia bear canister is a very tight squeeze and won't fit on its side (probably possible in the Atmos 65 variety). Probably won't fit the 700 cu in Bear Vault. To be fair, this pack is geared towards lighter load, shorter trips... my smaller 275 cu in Bear Boxer canister fits just fine.

I thought being uncomfortable was part of he outdoor experience. I have been backpacking for years and I would always start to feel pain in my shoulders and hips from my pack load. My friend purchased an AG pack and kept saying now comfortable it was of our 3 day section hike of the AT. So I got one for myself. I put it to the test in a 3 day 2 night backpakcing trip in Red River Gorge with my son and was very impressed. Not once was the pack uncomfortable! In fact it was a pleasure to carry. I highly recommend and AG pack to anyone that is looking for a comfortable pack.

The standard on the trail. Comfortable, well thought out. I use it for backpacking and for search and rescue. Being lightweight it can be a little delicate in some areas, but the Osprey warranty is fantastic and I was very pleased when I sent it in and they sent it back patched up and stitched up after a particularly brutal trip that involved raising bags and scraping them over sandstone. When I wear this one out finally I will immediately buy another one.

I was fortunate enough to have a very nice couple buy me this backpack during my travels. I am a 26 year old sophomore engineer drop out and have been homeless for a bit. This bag perfectly fits my sleeping bag, tarp, clothes food and boots, hygiene and it's still very comfortable!! The best part is there is still room if I really need it. I am so very happy to have this bag!! It has made my life so much easier now that I can carry everything with me rather then stash it around town and hope it won't get stolen as I go about my day. Thank you Anne and Mike, you two have a special place in my

Comfort, quality, service... you name it.... Outstanding!
I've carried an Atmos 50 for closing in on 20 years hiking in " Rocksylvania". I have never felt the need to look for something better.
Simply put - it has been comfortable, serviceable, durable.
When I'm not carrying it, it is my back rest while I sit on some Pa. rock pile enjoying a view. It has stood up to the abrasion and there is not one place where it has worn thin... NEARLY 20 YEARS!
I did once break a frame stay and have had zipper failures.
The Almighty Guarantee took care of that and it was promptly back on the trail, good as new!
How can you go wrong?
I know every body is different, but as for me... 20 years - 0 issues... it hauls my load (20 pounds) comfortably. I wish everything in life was as great as my experience with Osprey has been!

I own and have used the Atmos 65 for several years, since I often carried gear and food for two people when my son went with me. I decided to stick with Osprey for my AT thru hike. I don't do cuben fiber because I treat my gear like it was issued to me instead of bought. I chose the 50 for its size, I obviously wouldn't carry a huge load but I wanted something substantial for a March start (cold gear, etc). When I reached HF I ditched the lid because I never used it. I threw this pack down Moosilauke because it was raining, I was slipping on rocks, and was having a bad day. It held up well to my tantrum. It might not be the lightest, but it is tough. A 50 liter was more than enough once the gear is dialed in. The zip pockets on the hip belt are useless, but I did put "consumables" in there. I still have the pack, it still smells bad, and I still use it.

Incredibly comfortable backpack and very light. Great ability to customize the fit to everyone's needs. Feels like it's a part of your body.

This pack got me started on Osprey packs and I'll never look anywhere else. Every time I load it up I'm surprised at how much I can carry without feeling burdened or weighed down. It's a bit more complicated than a regular backpack and It does NEED* to be adjusted and sized properly but once it is and you have the proper distribution of weight into your pelvis it's an amazing pack. The anti-gravity system and really all of Osprey's packs with the mesh air flow areas are a godsend. I live in Hong Kong where you can pour sweat just waiting for the bus sometimes and regular backpacks just soak through immediately. The mesh suspension systems eliminate that problem completely.
I do wish there was a bit more for organisation in the top compartment. Some dividers would help a lot as the main difficulty I have is how much things tend to bounce around and shift so I can't find the things I need while other things are falling out. The belt pocket zippers are a bit tricky but this can be a good thing in cities, especially on my little talon 22, you can store things in them without fear of pickpockets easily accessing them.

This is the most comfortable backpack I have owned in 50 years I have tried 8 packs in the last 10 years and by far the osprey AG 50 is the most comfortable. It would be nice to have an option with a lighter material to cut a little weight

I'm very satisfied with the Atmos 50. The frame is designed so the pack curves away from the back and has a very strong mesh allowing air flow. It also sits above the hips....you don't want a pack that makes contact with your buttocks. The pack feels featherweight when on my back.

I have been using it on several hiking trips from 3 days to 28 day. It has been serving me quite well as a field instructor working with a crew. The only constructive I can find for this pack is that the zero gravity feature does not work well when the pack is fully loaded. That being said I love this pack, I have plenty of places to tuck gear and is pretty easy to keep balanced even when fully packed.

As an adventure guide I tend to put gear through a range of conditions and uses. I also end up carrying more than my "fair share" of weight. The Atmos AG handled anything I stuffed in it. The AG system spread the load out incredibly well and was hands-down the most breathable harness system I've ever used. Super comfortable. Totally sold on this pack.

Backpacked Europe for 51 days summer of 2016. Pack was the perfect size! We flew American Airlines to and from Dublin- we were able to use our bag as our carry on - no problems or questions. Stuffed full as 51 days is a long time! Flew smaller airlines between countries in Europe- still no problems using as a carry on! Quick to pack since we used packing cubes. Due to the awesome back support it is a little funky shaped along the back- but no difficulties with it. Can't wait to start using it on weekend adventures :)

After reading some of the reviews on the Atmos AG 50 I felt I just had to add my comments. First, if you take your measurements and correctly adjust this pack, it will be the most comfortable pack you will ever own. It is true that there are no sleeping pad or sleeping bag loops on this pack. The sleeping bag is stowed in the lower zippered pocket of the pack. This is how the pack was designed. I stuff a military issue gore tex mms bivy cover as well as my down sleeping pad in this pocket with no problem. If you must have the lower loops then you need to buy the Atmos AG 65 that has the lower straps. The pack is more comfortable with everything in the pack not hanging on the outside. I am a hammock camper so this pack is great for all my gear including an inflatable sleeping pad folded up inside the pack. The internal hydration pocket fits my 3L Osprey Hydraulics bladder great. I use the quick connect kit that allows me to fill the bladder without having to remove it from the pack. The zipper pockets on the waistband are great for things you need to get to easily i.e. Cell phone, multi tool, etc. The two external water bottle pockets are easily accessible while hiking also.
The antigravity mesh makes this pack the coolest and most comfortable pack you will ever own.

I love this pack . I have had it almost a year and it was well worth the money. One thing that I like that many packs do not have is the ventilation on your back. it keeps you cool in the simmer.

An excellent pack. My only niggle is that the hip belt pocket zippers are very awkward. I have put my shoulder out trying to close one. I have two other packs of similar size and intentions which work just as well, are just as comfortable yet cost almost half as much.

This is a great bag for anything from weekend to a week out on trail. I have used it on 4 separate 5 day hikes now and its amazing! I bough this to replace my aether 70 which was just too much pack for me. The only thing i miss about that back was the top lid acting as a lumbar pack. That was perfect for holding my water, an extra layer, and my medkit on day hikes.
The only things i wish the atmos had was the lumbar pack option (or the new aether daypack toplid) and the hip belt zippers to be revamped. My old bag had no issues with one handed use, the atmos seems to jam up most times.
Neither of these are deal breakers, but they dont allow for 5 stars.
